When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

When the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
I will try to fix you

High up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

I like early Coldplay but have to agree that the drop at the end is an improvement. I don't mind his falsetto most of the time but not loving it on this song.

You can hear the song in a lower register here:

The song works better when he drops down into modal register at the end.  The song suddenly feels like it's coming from someplace genuine.  Really not a fan of all the falsetto in Coldplay, it's always felt gimmicky.

The haters, who don't appear to like any song by Coldplay, are a significant minority of RP listeners - the stats don't lie.  I happen to be one of the majority of listeners who really likes this song.
I admit to not liking the theatrics of their stage performances, but  very much enjoyed their rendition of this song on Saturday Night Live.
The lyrics of this song makes me think about the role of a father/mother to a son/daughter.
Whatever happen to a son, a father will support him.   He will fix his bones...

Your extensive vocabulary and wonderful spelling demonstrate what an intelligent individual you are.

No matter what you think of the band, it's hard to deny that Chris Martin has an unbelievable talent for melody, and I think some of this is down to him using a very wide melodic rang, rather than the typical 5 or 6 note range of most pop music. The trouble is, he sometimes finds it tricky to sing the higher parts. His earlier live performances could make you cringe, but he's improved over time. This track also has very clunky lyrics. However, there's something still very affecting about it...

Aussie reference here but whenever I hear this song now I think of late great gone to soon cricketing superstar Warney. Bowllleeeddd Shaneee
Thank heavens for the PSD button.
Always interesting to read how polarizing Coldplay is in the song comments. As Chris Martin “whines” all the way to the bank 😂
I really like "What if".

I've an idea. Why don't you grow up?

I’d under appreciated this track, until a mellow moment just now ~ unbuckled my staid mind and opened to my phase 2 .... Catch you on t’other syde .... 🦋🎶🧡🐾❤️🙏🍯🐰
Musician, heal thyself.
I can endure about three songs by Coldplay.  This is one of them.

"when you lose something you cannot replace"... it's life and this beautful song suceeded to fix my heart!
Still one of my all-time fave songs.  makes me stop in my tracks and listen with eyes closed
Please, somebody, get Mr. Martin some testosterone pills. Hopefully that will FINALLY lower the pitch of his voice. That or get him hooked on unfiltered cigarettes and Wild Turkey.

Anything but this beagle-like yelping!
Like a fly around my head... and pretentious.
I think this is a powerful song.   It is simple.  But the emotion that it builds is amazing.
IMPO another example of (success != quality).   pfff ermmm ..... 3! maybe 5 for the instumental version.
Still outstanding! {#Clap}

Love this song {#Drummer}
WHINER!!!{#Frustrated}
This is better on some days then others. Today, it's a 7. Tomorrow, maybe a 6.
I'm going to fix you Chris Martin one day ... now I'm having a bad day {#Razz}

Coldplay brought a fabulous new sound to music. But this song is a filler.
I'm not a huge fan of Coldplay, but this song, this is something that really hits home at this moment in time.
I used to think that this song with a different singer might actually be good, but then I heard a cover that is also played here and that is equally as annoying, lacking of energy and long...
It is still the best song of the band though and for this reason, I give it a 3.
