Than it seems
Wandering through these empty rooms of
Dusty books and quiet dreams
Pictures on a mantel
Speak your name
Softly like forgotten tunes just
Outside the sound of pain
Weren't we like a pair of thieves
With tumbled locks and broken codes
You cannot take that from me
My small reprieves your heart of gold
Weren't we like a battlefield
Locked inside a holy war
Your love and my due diligence
The only thing worth fighting for
Change will come to those who
Have no fear
But I'm not her, you never were
The kind who kept a rule book near
What I said was never
What I meant
And now you've seen my world in flames my
Shadow songs my deep regrets
Weren't we like a pair of thieves
With tumbled locks and broken codes
You cannot take that from me
My small reprieves your heart of gold
Weren't we like a battlefield
Locked inside a holy war
Your love and my due diligence
The only thing worth fighting for
Ovaltine
Ovaltine
Ovaltine.
Which is making me sleepy.
Is this a remix? The drum track is super annoying. I loved the original but this kind of sucks
The drum track is a reason why I rated this song higher than I would, actually.
sounds a little like roseanne cash
but later on in her career...after she said she was going to put the "count" back into "country" music
Another listener reports it was cowritten by Roseanne Cash and T-Bone Burnett. So props to you for hearing that.

I often think I should listen to another radio station, just to get some variety, you know? Or perhaps Spotify for a bit.
Then you blow me flat again with this superb material and I think "Nah, you're alright mate. Stay where you are".
Thanks from the bottom of my heart Mr & Mrs G.
That is why we come here!!
RP: Lock it in and rip the knob off. You're home.

Every now and then when listening to RP, I copy Song/Artist/Album into a note file.
I'm building one hell of a play list.
Lera Lynn has just joined it.
Why not rank songs and then download the csv file - that is what I do - one of the excellent perks of having an account. Plus I get to give some $ back to this wonderful station that has been my daily soundtrack for over 20 years
Co-written by Roseanne Cash and T Bone Burnett, which helps to explain why this is so awesome (both this bootleg and the hauntingly spare original).
After listening to both I much prefer the 'hauntingly spare' original. Her voice and instrumentals win out over the reptition and the over-long rhythm intro of this one. Those of you who haven't heard the original:it's worth finding.
The version I downloaded from the iTunes store is more what you want, without the drumbeat. It's also shorter, by 2-3 minutes.
I actually prefer this version, but I have no idea where to find it...

it is just missing oboe. I can barely tell the difference between this song and Twist in my sobriety by Tania Tikeram. I likem both. Groove beats.
I was hearing Sofi Tukker at first.
This song appears in the trailer for the upcoming game Endless Dungeon - haunting, beautiful.

Feeling the same !

I do the same thing. Hope Bill adds a bookmark feature into RP. I've discovered so many great new artists here!

Thi made me actually sit up and pay attention. What a great tune; I'd never heard this song or artist before.
Who is this Thi?
Are you need of some assistance from this monster?
Drum machine and all. Just love it.

Yeah I know, but they are so cute and cuddly.

Play Rosanne Cash's version. Hell, just play Rosanne Cash!
I find it unfortunate that you find it funny that people are dying and suffering in a country even if you think it is deserved.

Tikeram's voice - amazing. Great album as well.
I found it on SoundCloud.
Thanks for that
agree! RP is quite singular in that they are as hard left as any could be politically, and their listening audience is clearly same-minded. but they play this and so very many opposite minded bands. good music is good, though, so cheers to that. glad they don't censor what's good cuz an artist is pro gun, pro anything the DJ is anti.

Arrant nonsense ... American? Idiot
You, however, are singularly ignorant
"cuz an artist is pro gun, pro anything the DJ is anti"
How's that pro disease, pro gun thing working out there in Covidland?
LMAO
exactly!
Please play more.
Remember how she said that
We would meet again
Some sunny day?
R.I.P Vera Lynn. Inspirational for a generation. I hope we'll all meet again.

weak, shallow, and oh so ho -hum.
Two Inuit discussing the evening's food. One asks " What's for dinner tonight?" and gets the reply "The usual -Vera Lynn special". "Ah," says the first, "whale meat again".
I'll get me sealskin...
"ah oui, c'est tres bien ca......"

I agree with other posts here -- that the drums /guitar just don't fit. Lera Lynn is a superb singer -- I discovered her on YouTube just about 5 years ago-- that version is just Lera -- on a stage with her guitar. Simplicity is superior some times-- and this is one of those times.
I must confess -- I was attracted to the video because she is a gorgeous woman ( so call me shallow )-- and then I heard her sing.
So I went and hunted for more of her material... and I still wonder why she is not a superstar.
( Oh YEAH-- the so-called 'mainstream' music scene -- doesn't like people who can actually SING without auto-tune)
If you want to hear the version of this song I am referring to-- go here :

Thanks for sharing that link, I now prefer that rawer version, but this "remix" is still good, just different. I concur that she is a beautiful woman, with a beautiful voice.

Although I was initially introduced to Lera Lynn by this RP track, I subsequently found the original and now I'm more and more annoyed by hearing this remix...

I'm right there with you! Or I was, somewhere along the line I upped my 7 to an 8. I'm finding I like her effortless sounding singing style, which floats on top of the notes like an extra layer of aural pleasure. Still, this is still an 8 to me...Long Live RP!!
Now why did yo have to go and say that!?! Now I can't hear the proper lyrics, when I listen all I can hear is Lera singing about Ovaltine.
Anyway, not bad.
Mmm malty.
I hear "Ovaltine" too. Yummy as her voice.

Yes, what a genuinely lovely singing voice - natural with just a little vibrato - not too much - just right!

Scroll down.... someone posted the link here.
Do you mean there is a version hopefully without the silly dance drum beat that feels to me a bit out of step with the rest of the song?
Yeah, that's what I meant :)
I still kindalike this version too, but the original is way better. Send's shivers down my spine every time.
I could listen to her singing all day long

A pox be upon you, cscashby! I will never be able to un-hear "Ovaltine" when I hear this song! Though Ovaltine did add a certain malty goodness to milkshakes, didn't it?

I hadn't heard it - but will never be able to unhear it now.. Always preferred Horlicks
