She grew up with the children of the stars
In the Hollywood hills and the boulevards
Her parents threw big parties
Everyone was there
They hung out with folks like Dennis Hopper and Bob Seger and
Sonny and Cher
She feels safe now in this bar on Fairfax
And from the stage I can tell that she can't let go and she can't
Relax
And just before she hangs her head to cry
I sing to her a lullaby
I sing:
Everything's gonna be all right
Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye
She still lives with her mom outside the city
Down that street about a half a mile
And all her friends tell her she's so pretty
But she'd be a whole lot prettier if she smiled once in a while
'Cause even her smile looks like a frown
She's seen her share of devils in this angel town
Everything's gonna be all right
Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye
I told her I ain't so sure about this place
It's hard to play a gig in this town and keep a straight face
Seems like everybody's got a plan
It's kind of like Nashville with a tan
Everything's gonna be all right
Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye
Everything's gonna be all right
Rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye, rock-a-bye

Fair enough, I really like this :)
There's a lot of 7-10's on the graph....
Solid 8 from me, personally.
Oh - and there's always the PSD for those that just wanna move on!
I have a theory that some songs get snuck into the playlist just to calibrate and/or verify the ratings system.
I am undecided whether this is one of those, I'm kind of digging it at the moment.

Maybe just me but I get a mental visual, especially during the spoken portion...

Agree, for me the comparison is more in the Overplayed category from back in their day.
Pretty piano. It reminds me a little of Wheatus 'Teenage Dirtbag'.

ok, I see why people love to hate this song. It's great until you get to the chorus.
In the 98 cent compact disc bargain bin, "Worst of the 90s".

Not Tom Waits is hilarious with that "smile once in awhile whydontcha" line. Does also he have a song about kids running on his lawn?
It's tough to take a song seriously when "rock-a-bye" is part of it.
I don't find the song offensive... it's just ... vanilla.
Oh sorry, is there a song playing?
Solid 6.

Always liked this song, and the lyrics are clever and cool. Just saw him not too long ago in a small club, good stuff.
It's so 90's in such a sad way, lol. luv it, hate it. can't decide.
I can't help it....I love the lyrics on this song....
"...like Nashville, with a tan..."
Come on now...admit it...you like 'em, too!? And you want to know sumthin'? He's right.....
"Everything's gonna be alllllll right."
And for each and every one of us, so it goes....

Def. a re-mix.....it's sad because this song is actually quite good but SOOO overplayed that I think people judge him for what has become a pain to the ears (and ONLY know him as that guy that did that awful "lullaby song").
However, I'm sure he's happy to walk to his mailbox each month so probably could care less what people think now.
This sounds different than I remember it.

For me it brings back great memories of boating with my teenage kids. Hot summers, cold beer, fresh crab, sparkling waters.
