The words I have to say
May well be simple but they're true
Until you give your love
There's nothing more that we can do
Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen
You say it's very hard
To leave behind the life we knew
But there's no other way
And now it's really up to you
Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen
May well be simple but they're true
Until you give your love
There's nothing more that we can do
Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen
You say it's very hard
To leave behind the life we knew
But there's no other way
And now it's really up to you
Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen

One of my first albums. Vinyl of course. Worn to a clicky attenuated mess but still loved. Such brilliance.
Solid chills the entire song...strong 10 from me.

Thank you. I did not know that and am glad to learn it. I have corrected my original post.
Love this song but it was written by Lesley Duncan, not John/Taupin

"Love is the key we must turn

— Elton John (& Bernie Taupin), Love Song
Given the title and the era, this could have gone in so many different directions and never attained the beauty and power this song has.

"Tumbleweed Connection" is one of the unique albums where start to finish, there isn't a stinker in the bunch. Much like "Tapestry" by Carole King And "Question of Balance" by the Moody Blues. Any of those can be listened to start to finish consistently re-warming your heart and nourishing your soul. (And not to forget CSNY; anything by the Beatles; Led Zeppelin III and many others that my aging years are forgetting at the moment)
Haven't heard this in 40 years. What a treasure!
Just saw Sir Elton last Friday in Las Vegas. Seriously, one of the best shows I've ever seen. He and his amazing band played for three hours! Considering going to see him again this Sunday in San Francisco. He's on his "farewell tour" until the end of 2020, so if you have a chance to see him live, I can't recommend it enough.

Huge album in my youth... Still wonderful.
Luscious.
It's been decades since I last heard it so finding it today was a blessing... quite a delightful one.
The first time I heard it was around 1974, sitting in a small café with my family in Disney World. It stuck in my head for days and when I returned home to New Jersey, I figured out how to play it on the piano and didn't learn until months later that it was Elton John. I was able to buy the record, learn the words, and add it to my Elton John play list along with Candle in the Wind and Love Lies Bleeding.
