Yeah, so it goes
Yeah, so it goes
That sweet heirloom
Them abbey stones

Oh take a chance and roll the bones
Cut off your hair
Unplug your phone

Yeah and sell your belongings
All your clever drawings
Yeah, try to make a dollar from the grave
Sell your belongings
All your clever drawings
Try to make a dollar from the grave
Oh, whose to blame

Well so it goes
Yeah, so it goes
Them city boys in country clothes
Oh take a chance and roll the bones
Go crash your car
Burn down your home

And try to forget all your enemies and debts
They'll just chase you round and give you sour dreams
Try to forget all them enemies and debts
They'll just chase you round and give you sour dreams
Oh, so it seems
So it seems

Yeah, so struggle all you like
Yeah, put up the good fight
They say someday everybody dies alone
Yeah, struggle all you like
Put up the good fight
They say someday everybody dies alone
But hey
Who knows
Yeah, hey who knows
Yeah, hey who really knows

This fella really nails the whole "cowboy" look.

It certainly was a choice to put a rap segment in the middle of a Rush song.
I play the guitar, but I am definitely not a musician.  Can one of you musicians out there explain what's happening to the guitar in this song?  That is, is it tuned oddly or something like that.  Perhaps I'm hearing things? I can accept that too.  Thank you!

I'm late to this, but the one-man-band live performance you mentioned is fantastic. I can't walk and chew gum at the same time! Definitely check it out if you like this song.

And I saw him open up for The War on Drugs last year, and he and his band were great!

Having only listened to it on I tunes I didn't realise he was playing everything on that version - awesome!
Can't get enough to listening to it...
Thank you RP for made me discover this artist!

It's a great song, although the Audiotree live version is far, far superior, in my opinion. Honestly, most Shakey Graves is better in the live recordings.

Not much of a fan of the other tracks I've heard by him, but this definitely stands out.
Love to hear Shakey Graves on RP!
City boys in country clothes- Brooklynite Hipster Douchebags moving upstate during(and after) Covid.
I love Shakey Graves and highly recommend he speak to Steve Albini about producing all of his future efforts. I find his live recordings are all the better than the studio albums, which all sound overproduced and muddy, in my opinion.  Steve has a way of bridging this divide in the studio.

Totally
Audiotree live version of this is also very good and quite differently done.
Definite Modest Mouse vibes!
He's no Shaky Jake.  Movin' on ...

(You wouldn't understand unless you were in Ann Arbor during the 1980s.)

Quite nice, thanks RP. Found the words and thought I'd post them.
