One of my all time favorites. Just needs to be listened to loud on a quality stereo with bass galore. Their best song though is Child In Time. Eat that Steven Tyler!
Fond memories of my older brother pounding this out on the piano.
I understand the reason why, but it still shocks me this hasn't been playing on RP for the last 20 years! Time for some rocking.

it's amazing to hear the little details brought out by Dweezil scouring the sludge. A part of me does think it doesn't "sound right" because I grew up with the fuzz.

Interesting version. Dweezil is the son of Frank Zappa who is referenced in the song. This line up of Deep Purple was great, especially live. Smoke on the water on the live in Japan album has so much more power than the studio version imho.

When I was a young lad, all I heard was the guitar...how did I ever miss the keyboard.!? It elevates this song from great to excellent.

Man, I wore this album out back in the day! I was fortunate to see them and Yes at SPAC in Saratoga NY last summer. Amazing concert but I'm glad I packed earplugs.
Is it just me, or is the sound quality rather bad?
Cool thing about the songs that were overplayed during a period of time is, when you hear them again - it's either "hell, yeah!" or "meh, I can see why stations stopped playing this in past 10 years".
