Look at mama, she's in the kitchen
She's swinging her hips and dipping the chicken in flour
She got the music, it's bumping
I smell the food in the oven while I two-step in the shower
A well-balanced potato salad and hot sauce
Collard greens, fried catfish and lima beans
Engrained in your brain without a meme
Like it's a preset burning up on the screen
The operation is flagrant so reparations, we take 'em
And we be patiently waiting and for cake, we be scraping
Until it's late in the A.M
When you sick of the mayhem, you demonstrate 'til they pay him
Your body swaying, you listen what I'm saying
Don't want that AK-K-K commence to spraying
OG mind free, you cannot enslave him
And if the tables ever turn, you know nothing can save him
That sensation burning like Louisianan Cajun
The faint aroma, somebody is blazing to bring the day in
Big bro on his way in
Never forget where you started
'Cause that could be where you end
From a far away land, we were departed
Trying to find where we began
Mama said there was a code
That we all should abide by
Big man said there was a code
By which we should live and we should die by
Beats shaking like flour in paper bags
See 'em saluting and recruiting and waving flags
Spice in the hot sauce, crispy on the chicken
The screen door slamming and the young boy Cripping
Mama when she dancing, your uncle when he tripping
The spirit of Stevie Wonder when Superstition was written
I'm the first bop when you walk into the party
I'm the Chris Rock when you snapping on somebody
I'm the ingenuity, the mental acuity
Duke Ellington dexterity, I'm truly a rarity
I'm the sound of Miles Davis, it's impossible to bury me
The slow pimp walk, it's impossible to hurry me
The red cup, brown liquor, spades all night
Shower cap, house slippers, braids just right
Feeling when that itch in your weave is relieved
I'm your taste buds biting on the sunflower seeds
Only crossover I support is Kyrie
WEB mentality
I'm the Biz going off, Diana, I'm the boss
Or you could say Ross, Pirellis with the gloss
I'm the underground Harriet, the swing low chariot
Backyard smoker, fried okra and asparagus
The look in the eyes of someone who can relate
I'm the knowing that his loving couldn't possibly be hate
I'm the prayer of a mama, want her son to walk straight
I'm the prisoner released when he walking out the gate
I'm Black, I'm Black, I'm Black, I'm Black
Kananyina ifolodu yala (Black code)

Had no idea LL Cool J was still releasing music.
I'm all for a mix of music on the Main Mix.

I'm a long-time RP listener, and like a few listeners have commented on this thread & on one or two others I've seen this week, I'm also noting an uptick of rap here - and I'm glad for it (and pleasantly surprised).
Don't get me wrong, rap did not resonate with me in my formative years, so this isn't nostalgia for me (plus the songs I've been hearing are all very, very new); rather, I feel like those RP's been cultivating for us have insight, depth, meaning & musical/artistic merit like so many others we listen to regularly here.
Why wouldn't they warrant a turn at the mic on our stage?

Open your minds people. It's pretty good. Seems like some people hear rap and automatically dismiss it without hearing it.
Nice - I will have more please.
C'mon Bill stop with the rap.

Rap is taking over RP? Don't hear the N word so it feels inauthentic.

Yay, new(ish) LL! Loving the end section.

For better or for worse, rap/hip hop is the most widely listened-to form of contemporary popular music and has been for many years. RP's foundational ethos is eclecticism and diversity and it would be remiss in its mission if its big tent did not include at least a sampling of the sort of music most younger people around the world are listening to. That's not to say RP must play the most recent rap hits or showcase the current stars of the genre as listeners can hear that anywhere. I have to believe that there are corners of the rap universe that would appeal to RP listeners with open minds and open ears (this particular track being a case in point). I'm no fan of rap but I echo a previous poster: more please!
