What is going on in Africa is an already culturally embedded fear of homosexuality being exploited and inflamed by fundamentalist evangelicals and as noted before some of them American in origin. Actually a couple of years ago I saw a documentary about evangelical missionaries that have been working hard in Africa for some time now pushing this shi'te. Looks like their efforts are sadly being rewarded.
