Another day I call and never speak
And you would say nothing's changed at all
And I can't feel much hope for anything
If I won't be there to catch you if you fall
Again (oh again)
It seems we meet (meet and mend)
In the spaces (spaces safe)
In between (between intent)
We always say (always say too much)
Won't be long (long been gone)
Oh, but something's always wrong
Another game of putting things aside
As if we'll come back to them sometime
A brace of hopes and pride of innocence
And you would say something has gone wrong
Oh again (again we fail)
Seems we meet (meet and mend)
In the spaces (wend our way)
In between (between intent)
We always say (always say too much)
Won't be long (long been gone)
Oh but something's always wrong
And again (again we fail)
Seems we meet (make amends)
In the spaces (wend our way)
In between (between each end)
We always say (looking back)
Won't be long (moving on)
Oh, but something's always wrong
Something's always wrong

My sister and her husband got their Masters Degrees and later PHDs from UCSB. Somehow I got lucky and every time I went to visit them Toad would play somewhere in the area. Not the most "wow" music but warm and fuzzy for me. Love these guys.
Well, it's on again and I once again have to stop what I'm doing to listen and feel. I was privileged to get to see Toad play quite frequently at a small bar and restaurant before the record contract and fame. I was happy to hear of their success even though that happy time for me eventually ended up... complicated and painful. Wendy, I hope your life turned out as you wanted it to and that you are happy now. Me, I'm just fine and doing well.

If you'd never heard Peter Murphy, you might like this song.
End reminded me of Baltimora - Tarzan Boy

Great album.
I was at a May 1st Morris Men Spring Festival (don`t hold that against me, I was a spectator) and one of the guys (who is from Vietnam) showed up wearing woad.
After the ribald Braveheart comments, a quiet voice was heard to say: Who do you think we are, `Woad the Tet Sprocket?``
Bloody brilliant!

Solid song.
I know I'm too old to like this song, but I love the harmonies, chord changes, a tempo changes!

Always love me some Toad...

so i was busy during the 90's and kind of missed many good bands and i think this could be one of them

I am surprised as well that there are people who like one but not the other. Gin Blossoms have a few really good songs IMO, and two that get played on RP off and on:
Gin Blossoms — Allison Road
Gin Blossoms — Hey Jealousy
They aren't quite as well rated as this song, but they aren't so far off. To each his own and all but I'm going to go out on a limb and say your opinion is a bit subjective. ;)

If it was, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Both bands have silly names but often have dramatic motifs in their songs. Both bands hit their peak in the 1990's. One band is from California, the other is from Tempe, AZ. Overall, I can't see a lot of difference between the two bands and I'd be very surprised to meet a fan of one band that doesn't like the other. They have very similar styles as well.
Is the lead singer from Gin Blossoms?

Coming within a stretch containing Stone Temple Pilots, this REALLY takes me back...4-WDing through back roads of Noto Hanto lined with snow-covered spruce, cedar, and bamboo on the way to soak in Mawaki Onsen (hot springs) with killer sea and mountain view... LOVE IT! Thanks!
I have 4 across, 4 down and love it.
ah, thanks for playing it again. On the road in sunny FL and it makes great beach music.

I love Toad. I love this song. I had it on my MP3 player and I'd sing to it while I was watering plants at the greenhouse at six ayem. Um, and I danced, too. God, I miss those days. I don't sing anymore. I don't dance. Mostly, I just worry and stress. But this song makes me remember when I wasn't such a damned adult.

damn... its getting hard for me to hear Toad without longing for that time in my life when they were playing at Charlie's Seaside Cafe in Ventura along with bands like the I-rails and Durango 95. Things were much simpler then. Brings back good memories of that time and the people in it.
TOAD!!! Love it. :)
I have loved this song for more years than I care to admit. It always pleases!
Love hearing this at this time on RP, and love the time it sends me back to, too! ROCK ON! by all means!

Which band is better is up to opinion.
Personally it's the Blossoms.
hahaha
i'm taken aback to see even one person talking about toad and the gin blossoms in the same sentence, let alone a discussion about it. they're not that similar - not at all. same time frame (roughly, although toad were around a lot longer and are back together now) and i suppose a slightly similar sound, but that's about it. the gin blossoms had a somewhat shifty lineup, produced one album that yielded anything worthwhile (new miserable experience) and did little afterwards. don't get me wrong, i liked them. i bought their hit record, saw them live, enjoyed the album thoroughly. they were a solid band with some real good songs. but the notable thing about the gin blossoms is how magical a job they did of milking every possible bit of juice out of that one studio effort. kudos to them (and their record company) for that.
toad, on the other hand, are on a different level. starting in the late 80s with bread and circus, their riveting debut album recorded on a shoestring budget while they were just kids, you see a band with a unique vision, passionate frontman and excellent musical abilities. they stayed on that trajectory for a solid decade. their four big releases (bread and circus, pale, fear nad dulcinea) are all superb albums through and through. four steady members, all excellent musicians, no lineup changes, and now back together and touring. that's toad. the superior band in every way. in fact they were better than the vast majority of 80s and 90s bands, not just the little gin blossoms. they could hold their own with the rem's of that era.
radio airplay/hitwise, sure, toad barely approached what gin blossoms milked from their one peak effort alone. but is that what we're talking about here?

Great song.. I like the simple little opening riff. Dig the melody, too. Didn't the 90s have such fantastic music? Rare case where a good song actually made it onto the pop charts.

One sign indicating the end of intelligent civilization is having to explain Monty Python references, or even that they are a "British comedy troupe". * sigh *
