Celebration in the town tonight
All day long they been slaughtering upon the stone.
Share out the meat
Yeah you really like to eat,
Come on, woman, come, follow me home.
Oh well the priest, he cried
'Virgin ascending to the skies tonight'
All day long I've passed my time alone.
When the church bell rung
Stayed out on the tower in the dying sun
Now come on, woman, come, follow me home.
Well I don't need no priest
But I love all of the people
Yes, I share the feast
So drink up more wine, yes, and a song in my bones
I know the way
I can see by the moonlight, clear as the day,
Now, come on, woman, come, follow me home.
That lead guitar just floating along... this is (IMO) a great piece of music.
My hometown is Vegas. Ya'll welcome anytime.
I love Mark Knopfler, and appreciate his amazing musicianship. But may I vote for a little less? Seems like there's DS or MK three fo four times a day.
You may not. Not your choice, anyway.
Three fo four?
Hm? Did Bill just say this song finishes off "Brothers in Arms"?
I believe he did indeed. I was like whoa, is there a version of that album running around that I don't know of?
One of my lifes greatest regrets, missing the Alchemy tour when they played in Sydney in 1986....if only we had time machines...
One of my great memories is seeing them play in Hobart on that same tour. But I'd still love a time machine to see them play again.

Right Church, Wrong pew as they say....Still DIRE STRAITS
Dylan and Dire Straits....when you go back, its like hearing them for the first time again and you feel youve been unfaithful!
It's difficult to believe I've been listening to the early Dire Straits albums for forty years! Excellent music and always interesting lyrics, I never tire of this.
Yup 1978 first heard Sultans of Swing, privileged to see them live at Cardiff Arms Park around 1991.
My rating : 9 - OUTSTANDING
I thought I was picky, 1% on 3900 ratings is quite impressive.
LOL - yes, I'm quite picky :-)
Not that that's a bad thing
Hey. I just heard the same segue, one year later. Thought the same.

Actually it can if you play one Leonard Cohen right after that :)
Close. Just heard Leonard followed by The Beatles, then here.
Even more perplexing is that I also have been listening to them for forty years and never saw them live. I rectified that egregious error last October. The most I ever paid for a ticket; well worth it. I could not take the smile off my face, and many times felt shrill energy up my back. Mark is the best.

Don't worry about using it; that word appears far too often in the song comments anyhow.
That's a funny way to spell "imitating".
Never! JJ (RIP) rules
Absolutely concur!

Fur me, not a problem.
Did you just tie me to that comment? LOL. Small world just got smaller.

Agreed. Love tracks like this, where the groove takes time to develops.
Hypnotic, it is.
Me too, this is such an incredible album. I was just going to get up from my desk and head to another building. Looks like I'll be sitting here for a couple more minutes...
I never heard this song until just now. I used to grumble as a kid about Dire Straits not playing harder stuff but as you get older you appreciate subtlety, restraint, intimation and the space between the notes. How 'bout that Knopfler!
Man, i love it when Bill plays the duo!
I agree!

I'm envious of your glass-is-half-full attitude... I immedaitely worried that we'd lost someone from the band...
PS - today, the next song is Devics — Siren Song, which sounds a lot like Mr. Cohen.

Let's not forget "Love Over Gold"...

The big hits now sound terribly dated and have been played to death, whilst the lesser know stuff is great.
Nice one Bill!
Like this :)
I lean toward bb_matt's comment below, from the comments for "Single Handed Sailor." My guess is that Knopfler felt pressured to put out arena rock songs for Love Over Gold and Brothers in Arms. Both albums have great songs, but overall the earlier albums are more intimate and jazzier....
Bill and Rebecca--any chance, any chance at all that you'll implement threaded conversations in the song comments sections?
How fantastic this one get's played after Single Handed Sailor. The most perfect blending of two songs on an album i ever heard, so thanks for making it so!
That and for the song:

And I'll add, back-to-back on the album. DJ got stuck in the bathroom or intentional brilliance?
