Never heard of the genre "cello rock" before.
I quite like it.
oh yeah baby-sounds so good on hi end speakers
YES!! Especially in FLAC! Also excellent through great studio phones, DAC & amp!
Kids want to play in grade school orchestra. A bazzillion violins.
Of all the luck! Mine chose cello! Even screw-ups sound decent. Took him all the way to Carnegie Hall his senior year. What a ride.
Wish he sounded like Zoe.
Something similar in marching band: A bazillion trumpets and clarinets. Low brass instruments are bigger and intimidating to little kids.
Seems like 4/4 to me. I've never seen anything written in 1/4, funk or otherwise.
Excellent tune, by the by.
It seems most funk tunes are written in 4/4 time, with the rhythm and syncopation being accentuated.
Rhythmic music ordinarily requires more than one beat per bar; a "1/4" time notation wouldn't indicate any sort of pulse other than the main beat and would be hard for a musician to interpret. I guess a 1/4 notation could be used to indicate an additional beat at the end of a bar - like adding it to a bar of 6/8 to indicate where the beat comes in a 7/8 bar.
I agree, this sounds like 4/4, and is it a cool tune.

Keep an ear open for any of the 2Cellos songs on the RP playlist. Not sure if this is one of them but ....wow!

I agree, it's in 4/4, though the beat is stressed differently at various places.

Me too. I had the fire hose ready.
I actually thought it was an acoustic version of "the unforgiven" by Metallica until I checked the playlist...
Damn...

Don't B bootin' the cello player.
I quite like it.
it's how it's spelled in French...
wiki: Zoë Keating (born February 2, 1972) is a Canadian-born cellist and composer based in San Francisco, California.
Yeah. Yo mama.
Yes, it's like having a really melodic mosquito frantically flying circles around my head.
The same case here!
Did what, play cello?
GO ZOE
To be honest it was his music I listened to while hiking the deep sands of the northern Sahara.
Oh my! How much more pretentious can one get? 'cept it's true.
OK, buggered my right knee doing it - does that make it less pretentious?
Don't be ashamed of your achievements and don't feel constrained not to talk about them because people who haven't achieved take this piss.
Shit, now I'm sounding pretentious!
Ditto, only I think it's going to be this cover: Apocalyptica - The Unforgiven on Vimeo
edit: which it appears Bill has in the library https://www.radioparadise.com/rp_2.php?#name=songinfo&song_id=35680 !
I too really thought this was going to be something by Apocalyptica!
Lost my own blind-test but this song's still good :)
True, true, but his was not the music chosen for G.O.T.

Me-thinks you have "borrowed heavily" from the Lannister's theme my sweet red vixen

I'd watch whatever it is. Reminds me a little of the soundtrack Mogwai did for that French zombie drama The Returned.
I can't even name ONE Metallica song, although I downloaded pretty much their entire catalog in protest of their Douchness.
Of course I deleted it all because they suck and are unlistenable.
It's not right to mention them in a musicians thread.
Hoisted by your own petard!
From what I can tell, Metallica isn't nearly as popular as it used to be. The drummer seemed especially snotty and obnoxious in their heyday.
This reminds in parts of Talking Heads' "Listening Wind" from "Remain in Light."
And now I'm hearing bits of the theme song to "Game of Thrones."
This is actually pretty cool in a warm, wood-paneled intense kind of way.

All the instrumentation is cello. She plays through a sampler live and layers tracks on top of each other to build up the song. Basically, she's a one woman band. Not only is the cello capable of a wide range of sounds, but she is capable of pulling a lot out of the instrument.
it's the main instrumentation, and it's a cello.
Hmmm, look at George Harrison's legal troubles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Sweet_Lord. Influence vs theft. Glad I'm not a judge!!
It is very doubtful something like this would ever go to court. This song is not going to be the source of the kind of money it would take for anyone to want to pursue legal action. George Harrison's hit song on the other hand....
This is a nice song by the way
Very nice to hear her music on RP.
I consider this a cover of Unforgiven, seriously. Is it possible she never heard it and this is just a coincidence? Is it an homage? I am surprised how few people are asking this question.

Reminds me of The Piano Guys best work. Or vice versa.

7 -> 9.
now play some Maya Beiser
Yep - I believe I also heard an orchestral version of "Nothing Else Matters" ramping up...
Needs more clever screw drives in the intro.
and Cello Metal: Apocalyptica (Hall Of The Mountain King)
