And you won't have to move, you just sit still
Now let your mind do the walking and let my body do the talking
Let me show you the world in my eyes
I'll take you to the highest mountain to the depths of the deepest sea
And we won't need a map, believe me
Now let my body do the moving and let my hands do the soothing
Let me show you the world in my eyes
That's all there is, nothing more than
You can feel now, that's all there is
Let me put you on a ship on a long, long trip
Your lips close to my lips
All the islands in the ocean, all the heaven's in motion
Let me show you the world in my eyes
That's all there is, nothing more than
You can touch now, that's all there is
Let me show you the world in my eyes
Let me show you the world in my eyes
Let me show you the world in my eyes
Let me show you the world in my eyes
Let me show you the world in my eyes
Let me show you the world in my eyes
Let me show you the world in my eyes
My fave band and my second fave song from them. I only rate Behind The Wheel higher
now i want to hear BTW!
This tangentially reminds me of the old joke/saying:
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. if then you do judge him harshly, you'll be a mile away and have his shoes.
I'll get me coat...
Damn you, fredriley.
Half right. Hurt was written by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails).

Timeless greatness....
I Agree! Thanx RP!
Obviously you're a lonely minority here and you understand nothing. Check why Eric Honegger had to give up to pressure and let Depeche Mode play in the old DDR!
* Erich Honecker
This Depressed Mode is right on down there with David Bryne in the bottom of the virtual garbage can of music

Definitely in my top 10 best albums of all time.
(whereas there older work isn't really my cup of tea)
Nor me, though they did write Hurt and Personal Jesus, both covered (and better) by Cash.
err Hurt is by Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor
Well then sit down first.

Yeah, I went there a few years back!

You're allowed. Just not around me.
I like how certain groups can grow on you (and mostly thanks to RP) as Depeche Mode, Radiohead, heck, even the Smiths, all have tunes I can dig nowadays whereas if you asked me back in 2000 say, I would have given an immediate "SUCKO-BARFO" response.
Now all I gotta do is start liking DMB and the Quadfecta of "bands I used to despise" will be complete. Probably not gonna happen - still NEVER say NEVER (other than when saying "Never say Never" of course.)
And not knowing a lot about DM's music, I can't tell if this was the "end of the 80s" for the group or not. It sounds so very 80s to me, and that might have something to do with my dislike for the group over the last 25+ years. LONG LIVE RP and PEACE TOO!!!
The 80s were fun!

Perhaps this happened at the dawn of the digital age, but the Theremin is most definitely an analog instrument ;-)
Yes, it certainly is, especially considering that the instrument was invented in the 1920s.
But they had the best hooks of the big hair bands.

sex the piglets
Lol! This is awesome.
I just turned off Spotify to listen to RP after finishing listening to Violator. Thought something had gone wrong at first...
Despite some zeitgeist sounds (the snare) the songs themselves as well as the lyrics are surprisingly timeless.
With the advance of the digital age, more and more things are used to make music.
...
Way back at the dawn of the digital age, the Theremin used the musician's hand position — while not actually touching the machine — to make music.

Jeez.. and I thought I had a weird job.
I think this might be the best album of the 90s.
Top 5 at least.
Absolutely.
I can't believe these kind of arguments still exist to this day? Electronica in all it's guises has been around for 40 years now dude. And the bull about being good at playing guitar requires more skill than composing using computer/synths/whatever is just lame.
No argument. I get it that this is musical and the loops are creative etc. Just not my bag. Just like maybe a blister guitar solo and some fancy wahwah pedals might not be yours.

Though this song I like it's not at the top of the list. This album is definitely a top tier. Great album.

So anything with electrically generated sounds is not a real instrument? In that case, your "screaming guitar" isn't a real instrument as the electric guitar sounds like crap when played with the electrics turned off.
With the advance of the digital age, more and more things are used to make music. Anything used to make music can be an instrument, I don't care if it is as simple as banging on a brake hub or as complex as a computer.
That said, I understand the intent of your argument. There is a completely different skill set used when playing a guitar then sitting in front of a computer screen or production board.
And some non-Goths just love them to death!
Apparently there are a lot of non-non-Goths in Germany, the oui-oui-Goths are all in France.
No we don't. Believe it or not, grasshopper, some of us just non goths just find Depeche Mode to be shallow, strident, and extremely annoying.

Ooooh that sounds smashing!
"some kind of real instrument"
great! i made a screenshot of your post
full of sound
Let my hands do the soothing... Don't care if it's Depeche Mode, it's sexy!
Hell yes.
And it's sexier for me BECAUSE it's DM.
"some kind of real instrument"
You and me both... I remember owning the tape - I was in high school.
You should do so well with a Casio!!
You are obviously a stand up comedian, where is you next gig? U funny!
Preach it Brother Dave!
It is way beyond reasonable, just go straight to an understatment!!
Had this on my workout playlist for a while, had to drop it. The beat works ok, but a little too dark to keep me running/rowing/lifting.
Sad, if you can't hear them (the riffs)

Disagree!
I agree with Radio_Dweeb and for you More_Cowbell, it's Depressed Mode.
Disagree!
At least Depeche Mode (unlike Coldplay) did not directly lift one of their riffs into one of their pastiche pieces.
Douche Mode has riffs?
Gee I wish I had half of this guy's self confidence
Dave is massively confident and just having fun on stage as performer (Martin struggles with stage presence but gets through it and is well-loved by audience). Seen them twice recently. Dave is one of the most on-pitch, on-time vocalists I've seen live (been a concert-goer of a multitude of bands since 1980). Absolutely outstanding shows -- amazing visuals, bombastic sound, intense energy.
