Can you feel a little love?

As your bony fingers close around me
Long and spindly Death becomes me
Heaven, can you see what I see?

Hey, you pale and sickly child
You're death and living reconciled
Been walking home a crooked mile

Paying debt to karma
You party for a living
What you take won't kill you
But careful what you're giving

There's no time for hesitating
Pain is ready, pain is waiting
Primed to do its educating

Unwanted, uninvited kin
It creeps beneath your crawling skin
It lives without it lives within you

Feel the fever coming
You're shaking and twitching
You can scratch all over
But that won't stop you itching

Can you feel a little love?
Can you feel a little love?

Dream on, dream on

Blame it on your karmic curse
Oh, shame upon the universe
It knows its lines, It's well rehearsed

It sucked you in, it dragged you down
To where there is no hallowed ground
Where holiness is never found

Paying debt to karma
You party for a living
What you take won't kill you
But careful what you're giving

Can you feel a little love?
Can you feel a little love?

Dream on, dream on

Can you feel a little love?
Can you feel a little love?

Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on

I keep dreaming of bananas.
As with many DM songs, it’s impossible to pinpoint this to any decade between 1980 and today. In other words: timeless. Meticulously multilayered, too.

I don’t think I’ve heard this before. It certainly is different than their canon. Reminds me - just a tad - of an old John Martyn song. Can’t remember which …

Reminds me of Aerosmith's Dream On.

Depeche Mode follows Björk. Sounds like a tape mix. Great!)

One sign that you're an amazing lyricist has got to be that the top RP comment for one of your songs is just a copy paste of lyrics from the song.
Heard it a million times before. Tonight was that moment when the lyrics really struck!
Now that's a cool tune!

What you give won't kill you
But careful what you're taking

And then, hopefully, you can feel a little love

Nice.

Beautiful! Happy to hear this. Play more please!

Put on earphones and turn this one up.  Brilliantly produced.
More Depeche Mode, please! {#Dancingbanana_2}
I never realized how much they sound like INXS.  Wow!
Haven’t heard this in years - thanks for resurrecting it!
Never heard this before today. Really good! Have never been a Depeche Mode fan...might need to reconsider.

Feeling that... all of it. This tune is working.
A Depressed Mode song I like! Not like the old days.
This has the most infectious groove I can think of, it seems so much more complex than the electronica I've heard. Johnny Cash new what he was doing when he did a version of Personal Jesus, they write good tunes.
Shaking my butt to this song... At Work... {#Bananapiano}
They grew on me too. When I was a teen/20 something, I didn't care for the original Depeche Mode but after their newer stuff came out in the 2000s, I really liked them.
I had an employee who adored Depeche Mode. I always wondered why? After listening to several of their songs I have to say that they really grow on you. It feels gooooood! And I dooooo feeeeel a litttttllllle biiiiiit of looove. {#Kiss}
What a surprise. I really enjoyed this. I hardly know any of their work. I only remember their name and have a vague impression that they were the perpetrators of a couple of silly videos that got way too much airplay in MTV's debut years. That category, however, is littered with the desecrated bodies of now-forgotten bands. This song convinces me that I should be paying closer attention.
Depressed Mode.

Nice tune. Not in a derogatory fashion.
Nice follow-up to The Shins "New Slang."  Bumps DP up as a result.  Nice work.
"10"
Funny - I walked into the office just now listening to Depeche Mode on my iPod.  Took out the earbuds and this one was on! Coincidence? Perhaps ;^).
My brother got up and sang (more like spoken) karioke to this song for me!  He did a great job — but I was the only one cheering.  Hard crowd (obviously not DM fans....).  {#Ask}

As a Depeche Mode FANATIC you're limiting me at 2 ! {#Surprised}

I'll reluctantly choose these (they'll change by next week if not tomorrow);

"World in my Eyes" - Violator

"Perfect" - Sounds of the Universe

{#Mrgreen}
Regardless of what you think about the song itself, their production has always been on the cutting edge of electronic music, they've pioneered many many sounds.

I could never just pick 2, but here are a couple of cuts that didn't get (much or any) commercial radio play that I particularly enjoy:

But Not Tonight from Black Celebration
Shame from Construction Time Again
Waiting For The Night from Violator
Get Right With Me from Songs Of Faith And Devotion
I Want You Now from Music For The Masses

man, i haven't thought about those albums in years (decades?). it made me check out the tracklist on amazon. broken frame is where you can find the original "Leave in Silence", one of depeche's best regardless of era. thanks for the reminder.
Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand sounds a bit like Dave Gahan. I'm just noticing that.

If, by "great stuff" you mean "horribly dated stuff" then I agree wholeheartedly. And by "horribly dated" I mean "horribly dated by the time Violator came out".

Sorry, can't limit it to two. :) - "Personal Jesus", Violator - "Policy of Truth", Violator - "Enjoy the Silence", Violator - "People are People", Some Great Reward - "Walk In My Shoes", Songs of Faith & Devotion - "Strangelove", Music for the Masses - "I Feel You", Songs of Faith & Devotion My ex-girlfriend used to absolutely love "Blue Dress", off Violator. It was her favorite song.
I really love Depeche. Thanks so much to RP for playing great stuff like this... which I would never hear anywhere else!! I've never heard this gem before. Makes me hunger for more! Gotta buy me a new DM CD!!

what about anything from any of their earlier recordings? From the 80's? many more treasures await your ears if you look farther back? maybe?
They really retained their cult status in the States, more so than in U.K, much like the Cult, Cure,etc I've always liked a more "American" sound...

"Walk in my shoes" off of Songs of Faith and Devotion, but really take any track off of that album. Brilliant and massive. "Waiting for the night" off of Violator, but again, take any track off of that album. Amazing.
I'll second the vote for both of those albums. Can't pick a favorite song, though...too many to choose from.

'Everything Counts' from Construction Time Again (1983) 'Nothing' from Music For The Masses (1987)
Agent Orange - Music for the Masses Clean - Violator
Although Depeche Mode is always welcome, this isn't one of their better songs. They have so many awesome songs to choose from, so I don't get this choice.
I have a dream

Kinky cover
Dreamy :)
can you feel a little bored...? dream on... dream on...
Despite its good radio success when it came out, I hinestly think Dream On is not so much "Depeche Mode" and has not so much impact. The lyrics are quite interesting falling in their subgenre which I'm unable to clearly focus about.
I really appreciate RP playing DM, but there are so many better songs than "Dream On". Like the rest of "Exciter" (surely their most ironic album title), this is incredibly boring. Looking forward to their new album next month. The few songs I've heard of it are all miles better than their last two offerings combined.
mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm well done

This is one great DM song.
Exciter is a surprisingly good album, with a Violator-era DM feel despite the fact that it came out not all that long ago.
Always DID like DM's sound... heck I WAS a DM (DUNGEON MASTER) in the 80's.....Mmmmmm....80's......Aurghhhhhh!!! Funny , when they did PERSONAL JESUS, you don't know WHERE they're coming from, but Mr. Cash doing it puts a whole new spin on it....
DM is great road trippin' muzic...oh yeah
I'm a bigger fan of "Freelove" from the same album.
SO the lyrics are shallow. I like the textures. RP is so cool, I listen in my wool sweater.
ouch. cheesy... i like aerosmith's version better.

Were you to read carefully, you would see that the post said that DM represented everything bad about the 80's. It did not say that this song represented everything bad about the 80's. This song merely shows that DM is able to produce bad music during two seperate decades. back at ya!

Wow, such strong anti-depeche sentiment here....those same people probably hate any type of electronica (Kraftwerk, house music,etc...)music and know depeche only by their (80's) hits...pity They were never the same after Alan left; although Martin is a tremondous songwriter heavily inspired by the likes of Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave...
Horrid! Yet typical of the group!
Sucks ass... but not as badly as most of their stuff.
Reading all the previous postings, it seems DM ellicits plenty of commentary. like most fans, i adore the older stuff, and am lukewarm for the latest work. some groups just lose the edge after a while. losing a bandmember doesnt help either. they still have plenty of music out there to enjoy. i'll still listen to the new stuff, and hope the next album will show some of their earlier style
Depeche is the greatest expressway-driving music in the world. 5 lanes wide at 60 per, underpass, overpass, tall buildings, city lights, keep going, nobody slow down, now.
i like it!
Everything bad about 80\'s music is represented so well by DM. Make it go away!
Wow, a Depeche Mode song that doesn\'t sound like it was done by someone who prioritizes their hairstyle and make-up over their music! I didn\'t think they had it in them...
I'll make a convert out of you YET!!!!! :D

Oh, thanks. Now I understand. My "rites of passage" were more like 35 years ago. No wonder I don't "get" Depeche Mode.
I'm apparently not a real Depeche Mode fan, because I generally don't like anything they do, but I do in fact like this song. (The simple guitar part was very cool.) It appears from reading the posts below that the real Depeche Mode fans don't like this one, but they love all the older DP stuff I dislike. Go figure. I guess the fact that all types of art are subjective is what keeps things interesting.
