Rain falls, I fix my eyes
Let go of the focus
And I blur out all the lines
Just to remember, remember

Crying 'cause it's not my fault
Water through my lashes
Look just like Christmas lights
And I still remember, remember

Cold and shivering
Cold and shivering
Cold and shivering warm

Ooh, ooh

Sing please, rock me to sleep
Quiet as a canyon
Up under heaven's eaves
I surrender, surrender

Downstairs the furnace swells
Safe from all the horrors
In your stinging velvet arms
And I surrender, surrender

Cold and shivering
Cold and shivering
Cold and shivering warm

Cold and shivering
Cold and shivering
Cold and shivering warm

My wee boy, when we went camping, would play my ipod on it's little speaker, and channel Bill when introducing each song. He's 24 now. :-(

YES! That was my 1st Neko Case show and it was excellent!

Captivating story.  Completely drew me in...

You really have very little knowledge about Neko case, but you felt compelled to put her down, albeit with a complete lack of facts. Also she, and KD Lang, have publicly come out against the use of Autotune.
Considering she has had little or no vocal training, her voice is amazing.

senseless lyrics for what sounds like a train song.  either very impressionistic or very bad.  Good thing I like Ms. Case.

I could learn to love more country if that meant more Neko...and tasteful uses of steel pedal guitar.

Gaah! Footprints on the hood!

That awful "Deep Red Bells" amped up a bit.  No thanks...

Haha! AND it just happens to be Neko, right, Romeo?

Yeah baby! Great stuff.

Wow! My dad had a Cougar of this very vintage!

Meh... Good stuff... As someone else said, I could listen to her read a phone book... : )
No, no...that's Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies who is stuck deeply in the ''lonesome whippoorwill'' motif.

Obviously  you haven't had the pleasure of hearing her live yet.

Sends chills up my back! {#Good-vibes}
Love this woman's voice. the song, on first listen, is so-so. might grow on me
Something about Neko that just gets to me.

In a good way.

Think its the lyrics and the delivery.

Now we´re talking.. this is good.

LOVE her voice!  It kind of reminds me of Bernadette Peters - a touch nasally, in a good way.

Was Calexico backing her on this one?  Awesome guitars / drums - sounds like John's trademark thunder drum at the end.

I know what you mean. I'm waiting for the follow up to "Fox Confessor". If it's half as good as that one, I'll be happy!

LOL- Nora has a lower gear she can use. Neko just grabs it and goes. She must have gills or something, because she never runs out of breath. I think if she tried to back off her hair would explode or something from all the stifled energy.

Yeah, the cover picture pushed my rating up a little, if that makes any sense. Good song. I also like the "stinging velvet" comment. She makes me want to hear Tammy Wynette though.....

gotta' luv it!
"Stinging Velvet" is a great description of her voice
is that a dulcimer?

oh, ditto! I thought I was the only person not in love with one, the other, or both. Her voice doesn't do it for me, which I understand is personal and to each his or her own, but her songs sound redundant to me because of that whine/nasality (?).
Love me some Neko on a Monday afternoon.

Man, I knew when I heard this what, already a few years back, here on RP, that this was no ordinary radio station. Sing it, Neko, sing it! Give me that Furnace Room lullaby, that train-whistle harmonic, make me twist and wiggle while I'm supposed to be making a list of kanji and romaji for the new entries in the Kyushu chapter! BTW it's a damn shame about Ray...isn't it? Nice set you got going here, Bill!

It's got a riff identical to "Apple Scruffs" from George Harrison. But that's okay; he admitted to borrowing a riff or two himself. What musician doesn't?

It's not just the voice (but that's the main reason). It's also the rolling-thunder bass. The pedal-steel. And some intangible haunting quality that I can't put my finger on, but sucks me in no matter how many times I hear it. Hearing this album has virtually launched me into an whole new exploration of a genre I never really new about. The connections she has on this album are striking, and next thing I know, I'm picking up Calexico and Sadies (both of whom contributed to Blacklisted) albums. Sadies especially are real tight with Neko, and if you like the instrumentation on Blacklisted, you might like the Sadies as well. They're actually touring with her right now and backing her up. I was so pissed that I couldn't get to NYC to see her/them last month.
Help, I'm being sucked into another universe and I can't get up

Easily my favorite song of the past 3-5 years. What a gem. I'll never forget the day I heard it on RP. Been in love with this song, this album and Neko ever since. And now that I think about it, it's time to send some $ to RP again. It's been awhile, and without RP I would have never been turned on to this. There's alot on RP that I can't stand, but I listen for these diamonds in the rough.
I bought this album after hearing Neko here on RP. (through the link on the site I might add). Really really good cd.
After seeing the pix, I got a cue as to why she's a cold and a shiverin. Put some damn clothes on, woman! Not only can she sing, but she appears pretty handy with a...um...er... stick. One woman I wouldn't mind getting hustled by...at least I'd could blame my sloppy play on the distractions.
My high praises to RP for introducing me to Neko. What a shining gem in a vast field of music tripe.
Neko is a golden throated goddess...need more of her with New Pornographers though.

Neko's a huge talent. And, having seen her perform live, I can tell you that the voice is the real deal. Great tune.
Perfect description. First time I heard "Deep Red Bells" I thought it was a song from the 60's. s ANNE_MARIE wrote:

>>this song is obviously about abuse Er.... no, it isn't. It's about missing the rain. Not obvious, I know, but that's what Neko says.

I just can't get over the fact that someone named their kid Neko. Especially with a last name of Case. The music's good though. :)
Try listening to this in the dark for maximum impact. The entire album. Aces, Neko.

Neko has been added to my fav female singers list....defenitly a fav tune
Fan-freakin-tastic show here in the Old Pueblo last night. Thanks for offering a new cut, Bill. Really good tune.
good to hear this in the mix, more neko please.
