Sad, though he did have the #1 risk factor for death by C19; OLD AGE.  LLRP and RIP Manu!!

It was published in 1973Born in 1933, he would have been 40  in 1973.You're right about the funk, though!  Great vibe.
Well, this is a big 8!
Which might be low...
8 to 9, this is rocking!
Someone needs to make a set of those animated GIFs for different beats per minute.  Would be great to sync up the correct one to the music.
I remember Manu from the Soul Makossa days of the early 70's.
we all need more funk.

you know it. I know it.

we all know it.

Definitely a Blockheads vibe with this one.  Not anywhere near as mental, though.
Me likey! Has that badazz rough Frank Zappa Hot Rats era sound complete with bass way up front and that honking sax

Off by a day: minus one point. Still with The Supremes: bonus point. Guess we're not supposed to notice such things. It's all completely different, don't you know?

Nope, 1972.  Cool tune; I still have the single...somewhere.  This is also a cool one.

got to move on this one
In a recording studio back in 2006, laying down tracks for this song, some hepcat played his sax so hot it probably melted!  I vote 9 on first listen, because this saxophone guy blows in the best possible interpretation of the term!
such a good antidote to Alison soppy Kraus played a few songs back..... thank you!  I'm awake and dancing again :-)

RIGHTEOUS.

  1. This song was written long before drum machines were widely used.
  2. It appears you chose your user-name poorly - perhaps not.

Wow! African Funk! Love this tune. First listen. One of about 6 or 7 tonight alone (first listens, that is)! Keeps me comin' back for more and more.

Ta!

Need to find the vinyl with 'Soul Makossa' on it in my collection this evening.

Yes indeed; I haven't even heard his name in at least 10 years.  I still have that single, somewhere - Atlantic Records, red label; now if I can remember where it is.

Love it!! Dancing round the studio, keep it coming!!!
Not my thing. Still decent though.
Strong 7 for the music. +1 for the couch.

First time I heard sax with an African groove, I love it! Sounds like Clarence Clemons dropped in! Hard to believe this guy is 75 years old, awesome energy ...
Normally I can't stand saxophones, but this I can live with.
