Two skaters on an ice cream floor
And one of them fell on the ground
This is what she has been waiting for
Till one of them fell down

Your sister in Canada
She's sending a gun and one pair of skates
The gun is not real, the shoes are too large
You load it and wait

Two skaters on an ice cream floor
And one of them fell on the ground
This is what she has been waiting for
Till one of them fell down

Your sister in brown shoes
Walking down the street
As it begins to snow

Your sister in Montreal
She's sending an LP of the Velvet Underground
We're steaming the walls of your brother's old room
Peel slowly and listen

Two skaters on an ice cream floor
And one of them fell on the ground

oh wauw, the Nits! One of my favourite bands since my youth. (I am from 1970). More of this please! They deserve more airplay!

Try Arnhem, can't really call 'em mountains but it's as close as it gets for Dutch standards..  😜
Great band.
The live version of this song (I believe from the album "Urk") is even better, as are other live songs!
Ok, having Canada and my Montréal in the lyrics gives this an automatic 8 at the outset, if it has the melodies to carry it off...

and it did...
You can't fool me...I know there aren't any mountains in Holland...
Thank you so much for playing one of my favorite songs from my all time favorite band!

Greetings form a fan since 1983
Nits!!! Fantástic band! My parents used to take me and my sister to shows if they played our local theater. The theater suits them very well, the attentive seated audience artistic stage designs and projections always made for such an immersive experience. They still play, so I should really see if I can get a ticket for one of their shows soon!
Great bass
Never heard of the band - this is fantastic AND beautiful - thx BillG. Has a little David Gilmour feel (Smile On?), which is, btw, a high compliment from me

Nederlander
I had to come here to check to see if this was some unknown Talk Talk or Mark Hollis tune. Found a new artist to add to my music collection.
hahaha - is that a young Bill Mumy on the 10 (guilder/euro) stamp?
they lost their rehearsal space and instruments after a blazing fire just a few weeks ago; but they plan to continue touring and play. Hurrah :)
I have the sheet of stamps shown on the cover! Called "kinderzegels", literally "children stamps", kinderzegels were issued annually (and may still be as far as I know) to raise funds for children's services.
First ... but not not last time i listen to this fantastic song
I like this. Why haven't I heard it before? Must be a conspiracy.

So happy to hear this dutch pride. Even we no "mountains", only small dunes.
Fantastic! Another intro to artists I have never heard of before. I have spent a lot of time in Amsterdam and Utrecht and have never heard them. Thank you 🙏 (again) Bill & Rebecca.
Are they Dutch?
I didn't know, the Dutch have any mountains. Perhaps, Noord Limburg? Or South?
I live in the Dutch mountains! So a big 10
A couple of days ago I heard their biggest hit "In the Dutch mountains" on RP, great to hear that The Nits are played here. Other songs worth listening are J.O.S. Days and Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof. Scrap that, all their songs are worth listening!
Thanks Bill for playing this a couple of times in the last years and also thanks for Radar Love but there is more good Dutch music then only these bands....

I know eh?
Like a few of people, wow...1987,  and hearing it for the first time and liking it, a lot
this song reminds me of night rides on  roads less travelled... I love it

Me neither, and Im turning 36 soon.

Bill and Rebecca. I can't thank (or donate) you enough!

Reminds me of Talk Talk... The vocal and that post-rock atmosphere...

Easy 10... Just wow
Why have I never heard this track or this band in my life?  I turned 60 last month!
Great song, but like e.g. "Hotel California" (The Eagles) the live version is even better!
Bill, you should follow this with Tears For Fears "Sketches Of Pain" (not to be confused with The Nits' "Sketches Of Spain").
Is that a steel drum, reggae beat thrown in there around 3:30? Love it!
What a great track.  Yes, it does remind me of Talk Talk

I was 3 years old when they released this album by the way :)

Should start listening to the whole album, thanks Bill!!!

Even here in NL they have been a very well kept secret, unfortunately. They deserve so much more acknowledgement. They still tour the theaters, by the way. Well worth the money! *hint*
One of the Netherlands' best kept secret. These guys deserve so much more international airplay. Fantastic band and live artists.
Was surprised to see this song was release in 1987. Unlike so much 80s music, this one hasn't aged much.
Very underappreciated. Perhaps one of the best bands ever to come from the Netherlands - yes, never mind Golden Earring! This song gets even better over time.

That's the cool thing about RP, I've been discovering new music here since 2003
THANK YOU!

oh so nice to hear this again!
My all time favorite band - The Nits! Thank you RP!! You made my day!
still fantastic song great to hear this !
Okay Bill, thanks for playing this nice Dutch band. These guys are still doing theater tours in The Netherlands. Great music!!
Phenomenal song! Every time I hear it, I'm astounded... Wish I'd have known it/ them when it was current... Once again, THANKS, RP
Also listen to the live version: even better!

In 1980 I sang in a band called RED HOT that did the Nits' support act. We shared the dressing room under the stage in Paspartout in Emmeloord. They used to dress in black suits so when we came down after our gig I ordered a beer and a gin but he wasn't amused.
Now I live in the Hague and I sometimes meet Robert Stips the singer. We still perform sometimes and I put some clips on you tube under my name : pkoelmans.
Pieter Koelmans . The Hague. The Netherlands. pkoelmans @ziggo.nl

Cool....but I don't get the beer and gin joke. Must be a Netherland "thang"

I am dutch but i don't get it either .
Great music  and great to read some comments from my fellow  countrymen.
Oh my, Nits on RP! Wow, this made my day. ITDM was the first album I bought, now I have every single release and more I can lay my hands on.

The AGM music guide review says it all:
There seems little doubt that were they not so geographically challenged, the Nits would be one of the most widely respected bands in the world today — at least on a par with smart-as-a-whip types likeXTC and Prefab Sprout. Certainly few can match their sheer creative stamina: how many other bands can claim to be still reinventing themselves after 30 years and nearly 20 albums?

Hey this is really nice.   the vocalist brought to mind that of Fleet Foxes
Amazing, I am Dutch and I never knew this album made it across.
Listened to this over and over again long ago. Thnx!

I like this album, had it in Vinyl record a long time ago. I rented the cd a few weeks ago  to get the MP3 after having heard it here on Radio Paradise.

And today I hear this song for the first time on RP, and I recognized immediately the Nits.

When I took a look at the RP album data, I saw that it has been edited in 2006. In fact, first edition was in 1887, at least, in Europe.Wikipedia confirms it.

I used to listen to The Nits a lot in the eighties and nineties but that was in the 20th century not in the 19th  {#Wink}
Terrific. Well done RP as The Nits are new to me.
You just don't get it ...
Talk Talk and this song are both from the same '80s !

Did you write dutch just because the Nits were on?
Ik bedoel, dat begrijpt misschien de gemiddelde RP luisteraar niet. {#Wave}

Maar de Nits maken nog steeds geweldige muziek

40 years?! For sure it's not showing its age. I thought at first that it might be Choir of Young Believers.

You never cease to amaze, to hear The Nits here! Applause from the Dutch jury.
First listen......I like it

Good choice. I have an Irish friend who visits gigs of the Nits in The Netherlands as much as possible. But he still is asking "Where are the Dutch Mountains"....
Hey some Dutch music! Two Skaters by the Nits. Is this Bill´s way of congratulating all his Dutch listeners with the speed skating medals that keep coming our way at the Olympics in Sochi?
yes and another one...
And the Dutchmen show themselves... Nice to know there are more and more Dutchmen joining the RP community!

You never disappoint me RP! The Nits on RP, I was wondering when the day would come. Still enjoy their music.
Didn't they come out of another band, The Lice?
woohoo, the Nits on RP, one of the best dutch bands ever!!!
never heard of these nits before, this tune's got an entrancing Al Stewart feel to it
