It was a long night for everyone,
The moon yields to a sober sun and her virgin light

Can't unsee the things I saw
Fallen devils, false gods
In the violet light

Was it always this magnificent, cause it feels so different
In the morning light

Like the first word from your first born
Landscape transformed by the virgin light

How many times I've wished for change
Gave up, gave in, and called it fate
Repeating all of the same mistakes
Wasn't ready for what I'd find

Whatever it is has turned the knife
It was a long, long night

It was a long night for everyone,
Felt the dull hum of wanderlust
In the morning light

Can't unsee the things I saw
Fallen devils false gods
In the violent light

But now I finally see the sun
Drew out my wings flew over high tide
It looks much different in the daylight

How many times I've wished for change
Gave up, gave in, and called it fate
Repeating all of the same mistakes
Wasn't ready for what I'd find

Whatever it is has turned the knife
It was a long, long night

I'm finally reachin' to the sun
10,000 years there is a long time
Did you getaway?!

I'm finally reachin' to the sun
10,000 years there is a long time
Did you getaway!?

People in my vicinity hear a cat chorus.
Recently saw them live. They put on a good show. They did a Fleetwood Mac cover as one of the encores. Waiting for them to cover GODZILLA!!!!

Often I wish I'd never read the comment section.. I would have never thought of the guitar sound in this song like Godzilla.  Thank you for that, i guess.

Some great stuff.
Very nice segue from Agnes Obel's It's Happening Again
This song will always remind me of my undergraduate studies. I was 23, for the first time had a group of friends, we were having a blast, parties, kissing girls, getting high, dancing, feeling so self secure yet I was so volatile. This time ended so dramatically. Failed a drug test , lost my license, girlfriend broke up, friend‘s new born died.. I‘m mostly over it now at 32. But the scars it left..
Not a Guster fan, but this is solid, and first time hearing it on RP. Williams has been very busy dusting off some old tracks that went dormant.

Long Night is the standout track by far, it's all downhill from there. Quite a disappointment.

If you're interested in Guster, try Lost And Gone Forever / Keep It Together /  Ganging Up On The Sun instead.

When a band moves to further their musical exploration you can't fault them.  You may have found Evermotion to be a disappointment for you, but there are some very positive and enjoyable takeaways from this disc.
I have loved Guster for a long time...  Thanks to BillG and Rebecca!
very different from earlier stuff. not bad lyrics

You know what I don't like?  The musical press, especially Rolling Stone and every critic ever to have written for them, have this preconceived notion that a band has to reinvent itself and show us something new every album.  And so perfectly great albums get slammed. So when a band goes off and reinvents its sound and puts out garbage, like Guster does with this, I just want to puke on the latest copy of Rolling Stone and mail it back to them.
Easily my favorite Guster tune.
iTunes.. not available in Canada. Really?

DON'T JUMP!
Reminds me of my ex-wife.  A solid "2" and I don't want to hear it any more. God or Jesus oir somebody will punish me in the next life for that remark and I accept that, without reservation.
Pre-ordered this - hope the other tracks are like this!
This song really hit me on the deepest levels just now; whoah! & with such synchronicity! I've always loved Guster! Such stirring stuff!
Nice! - more!
I really have to thank RP for my apprehension and appreciation of guster.  To me this music makes sense as the music of these times. For once I can follow the arc from "my generation" through the dubious after-that up to this and can see the result making use of where it has come from, but not stopping there.  No gimmicks to guster.  Much encouraged.
God I hope i' m spelling guster right.

Excellent. {#Cheers}
I'm becoming increasingly respectful of guster and especially their lyrics.

Some sparking guitar work here.  Great vibe and message. I just love this song!
I'm loving the sort of gentle groove this has.
Such a great track.  Their last album was completely lost on me; I could not find anything particularly interesting in it. But this shows that we may be in for a real treat with the new album.
Nice Shins-like groove.  Should maybe be segued with "Sealegs."
Really exciting hearing something new from Guster; always seems for me that so many transitional summers are marked by their efforts.
This song is good for the ears...

A bit too "wall of sound" for me, but it's finally growing on me.  There have been at least four Guster albums that I wasn't crazy about at first but ended up loving, so I'm looking forward to hearing (and getting to know) the rest of this album.
Made me look, so up to 7.
Always love hearing a song for the first time, as long as the I like the sound, I think it's as good or better than other music the band has made previously, and the lyrics hold promise so I can enjoy subsequent listenings.

 Check, check, and check

Thanks for the add!

First song from their forthcoming, still nameless album, see https://soundcloud.com/guster/long-night.

Great track, makes me thrilled for the new record.

New Guster!  This doesn't really grab me, but maybe over time.  6 for now.
So far, my initial impression is a positive one of Guster's new work.  I'll start with a 7 and see which way it slides on the scale with future listenings.
