You catch my eye and I am frozen in conversation
Cause for a moment I can see
You lead me in and down this road with an invitation
A promise you could never keep

Why would you say I am the one you want?
What game you playing?
How could you say I'm not the one you need?
Why would you say I am the one you want
See the toll it's taking?
How could you say I'm not the one you need?

So even if you try to say there's a way to save us
I'll have to wonder what is true
Cause you deny the look that lies over both your faces
You show me one but I see two

Why would you say I am the one you want?
What game you playing?
How could you say I'm not the one you need?
Why would you say I am the one you want
See the toll it's taking?
How could you say I'm not the one you need?

The band takes its name from the infamous master builder of New York City, Robert Moses. If you haven't read The Power Broker, Robert A. Caro's masterful biography of Moses, I think you should. It's 1200 pages long, but I think it's well worth the length. Moses is a fascinating and important figure; without ever being elected to office he had near-absolute power over the physical landscape of NYC for close to forty years. It's his pathological preference for highways and cars over mass transportation that made NYC and its suburbs what it is today, and indirectly shaped much of the rest of America. Caro to my mind is a biographer without peer; a very good writer and an incredible investigative researcher. Check him out if you have the patience/time/interest.

Oh - and the song's good too. As others have said: it's a groove.
Spicy Greg Laswell
Recognized the groove almost immediately as Bob Moses - first time hearing this song.

So far a solid 7!
Good to zone out and work.

Truly?  Then I am a proud boogie bottle service pool douche bag and I claim my free T shirt
Perfect  tune
This tune is good. I think the song ratings should only be 5-10.
Yeah, I thought so: William plays another Bob Mould song, "Tearing Me Up" which has the same feel and might be part 1 to this part 2 of a love affair so wrong but so right...

That was so awesome of you to kick in money for a fellow RP listener.   Thank you.

Right? There are so many groups and performers I would not know about, if it were not for William's most excellent knowledge, and acceptance, of a plethora of genres.
manufactured monotony
put it on the bottle service douchebag soundtrack
It's amazing how these songs grow on me. They go from a 6 or 7 to a 9.

Say you are a douchebag without actually "saying" it...

Nah - you actually just said it.   hater - suck it.
this a song you want playing, when you want to sneak up on someone

this doesn't imply you have to be a sneak to enjoy it

but it don't hurt either
You're groovin' to the beat and bobbing your head and swaying your shoulders to this. Yes you are. You! I see you! Don't gimmie nuthin' about a dull track 'cause I saw you groovin' dammitt.

I agree with the current rating of 7.  Quite so.

I like this a lot! I think that his other one on RP, Tearing Me Up, is even more powerful, but even on this song, his mastery of the beat and penchant for mining the grooves are astounding. Bravo, RP, for turning me onto his music.

I 100% agree with all of this. One small nit to pick: this is a "they," not a "he." It's a band. And a dang good one.
theyre's no there here

Classic rock guy here from the early 70s. This is my only electronic artist cd I own due to listening on RP. Thanks RP!

I will certainly be $upporting RP more in the future, sadly today I've been made redundant and will be spending the summer holidays jobhunting - not easy when you're hitting 60 and can't afford to retire!!!

This has a Steve Miller feel that I really like.
This cd is not following red book standards set by Philips and Sony. 82:00  minutes? that is some serious overburn.  I wonder if my super picky player will play it all?

Sorry to hear that, but these are truly different times.  It isn't easy at our age in these times.  Only thing I can claim is I am listening to good music, have good smoke  and on the right side of the grass... Best of luck brother man!

A great summer night driving song.  A 9 from me.

Me too, slow, but driving, metronomic rhythm. Brilliant tune.
Promoting this from an 8 to a 9. Must be that Friday feeling. :)
I feel like I'm at one of those night club/lounges I used to go to in the 80's
I am liking these guys more and more.
Same singer from War on Drugs?
{#Beat} Me tooooooooo
Just after hearing 20 seconds I know this thing is going to bore me because that rimshot charley thing will sound undisturbedly the same until the end and it drives me nuts {#Frustrated}

My sentiments exactly.   I stop what I'm doing when I hear it.
Efficient use of cover art dollars anyway.
Another new tune heard here - One that makes me turn the volume UP and dance!
The drumming reminds me of that song by Fleetwood Mac which fortunately don't know the name of.
Love this band of two. Very progressive. Some very good music that came out of 2015-16.
At first I gave this a 7 (like its chill vibe somewhat more than most), but down-rated to 5 because it got a tad repetitious for me. Oh well.

That tap in the offbeat sounds just like a plastic jump rope hitting the pavement on the down swing.
