The waves crash in and the tide pulls out
It's an angry sea but there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining out
To warn the lonely sailor
The lightning strikes and the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones, to the sailor's soul
Till there's nothing left that he can hold
Except the rolling ocean
And I am ready for the storm
Yes, sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm
And oh, give me mercy for my dreams
'Cause every confrontation seems
To tell me what it really means
To be this lonely sailor
And when you take me by your side
You love me warm, you love me and
I should have realized
I had no reasons to be frightened
And I am ready for the storm
Yes, sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm
Oh, and distance it is no real friend
And time will take its time
And you will find that in the end
It brings you me, the lonely sailor
And when the sky begins to clear
And the sun it melts away my fear
I'll cry a silent weary tear
For those that need to love me
But I am ready for the storm
Yes, sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
Yes, sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm
It's an angry sea but there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining out
To warn the lonely sailor
The lightning strikes and the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones, to the sailor's soul
Till there's nothing left that he can hold

If you get a chance to see Dougie live run, don't walk, to the ticket office.

I bought a live CD of his. He intros this song with story about his uncle, a fisherman on some remote Scottish isle. This evokes that gray windswept craggy landscape for me.
Excellent! I can almost feel the air getting colder, almost see the sky growing darker ...

I hadn't noticed one of his songs before on RadioParadise - this is a great one.
One of my "stranger than fiction" moments came when I noticed one of his songs being used in a Nike commercial about football players (USA) last year.

Yikes. I thought Bill said Dookie MacLean... Sorry Dougie.
Haha! I thought the same thing, but I didn't want to be the first person to post a comment about that :).
...i'm surprised to see the first comment date from 2008 - i'm sure i heard this grab my ear on RP at least as far back as 2006...wait, i see this is a putumayo compilation - maybe there's more than one version in the library?..
Yikes. I thought Bill said Dookie MacLean... Sorry Dougie.
Very nice, Dougie McLean used to be with the Tannahill Weavers.
When I checked the songs page, I was surprised that I did not rated it, yet, and that there were so few votes and comments as I knew the song very well from RP. And yes this song is in the data base from another album, too. (click here)
This is good. Went from a 7 to an 8 before the song ended.
The dude looks like a laid back hippy...very good stuff!
Just heard him the other day on Folk Alley; prompted me to switch stations as I recall.
Not the best.
a very nice, haunting song, and a great find.
thanks RP
