In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
And the sun in my disgrace

Boiling heat
Summer stench
'Neath the black, the sky looks dead
Call my name
Through the cream
And I'll hear you scream again

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come
Won't you come?

Stuttering
Cold and damp
Steal the warm wind, tired friend
Times are gone
For honest men
Sometimes, far too long for snakes

In my shoes
Walking sleep
In my youth, I pray to keep
Heaven send
Hell away
No one sings like you anymore

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come?

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come? (Black hole sun, black hole sun)

Hang my head
Drown my fear
Till you all just disappear

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come?

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come (Black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won't you come
Won't you come?

No, the black hole sun wont come, so give it up!  Geeesh.
Love to chase this with some Screaming Trees.
Sublime...genius...what the hell went wrong?

Chris Cornell

Excellent song
Grunge is good. {#Notworthy}

"Burden In My Hand" is my favorite. {#Wave}

OK, I'm a Soundgarden fan.  But jeez-louise, can we play something else besides this song and the only other two tracks RP has in its collection?  There's a ton of good stuff out there off "Badmotorfinger", this album ("Superunknown"), and "Down on the Upside".  I'd be happy to upload some if that's what it'll take.  {#Wink}

Then why don't you upload some great tracks from your collection?
Personally I dig this one just fine, it was ages I heard it last (mainly because I rarely listen to commercial radio)
Great band, great song, brilliant video! I remember introducing my kids to Soundgarden when they were 2&3, didn't do them any harm!

Ah....reading the comments, I see I'm not the only one who always hated this song.
My wife once asked me (we both were in the higher teens in the early 90s) "What was that band with that video called again?". My immidiate response was "Soundgarden with black hole sun". Of course, the answer was correct.

Was played to death. Didn't help me liking it.
Here Comes the Sun would be a great followup to this.

yes, one of the bands who made me to look at with "other eyes", since 1984, the work that came marginally been produced for the called bands alternative, yes, this band was necessarily the "Soundgarden", and with all the merit, therefore Soundgarden is perhaps of the bands most succeeded and more recognized of in this area where they had to tame for its account the risk, and had always obtained!

that is just beautiful

Never understood why or what the heck is the fascination with this song (not in the 90s, and not now certainly). To me is oddly pretentious and I really think is PAINFULLY AWFUL. Be happy if i never hear it again.
Isnt pretentious a good thing for music?

The lame guy screaming a strained "black hole sun" repeatedly - like he's unsuccessfully trying to pass something stuck in his colon - annoys me to no end. Come to think of it, I feel the same with the lead singer.

Faux Beatles + Mediocre Grunge = Black Hole Sun

Am I supposed to think it's DEEP because it's a BLACK HOLE sun? I mean, that's sooooo ironic.

Sorry - never got Soundgarden, never got (as others have pointed) why some people think this song is the bee's knees. If Soundgarden were erased from music history I can't imagine anyone would notice...maybe Nickleback never would have existed but that might just be optimism on my part.

Ugh. I second that. And doubt it's coincidence that this song hasn't been played in 3 years.

There was no Cornell (solo) played on RP? Ever? How can that be?

So very, very overplayed. I remember I even called the local radio station to complain about how many times I was hearing this one--something I'd never done before and have never done since.
It seems you have found a new outlet for your "very overplayed" complaints and other rants - it's hard to find anything positive you have contributed to the RP forums... (Sorry about feeding the troll, but I like Soundgarden so much that I'm happy for any of their songs that makes it into the RP playlist, overplayed or not)
Prefer the steve and edie version
Hilarious! Last night in the "Post Your '1' Ratings" forum, I mentioned this track, and how I've for years had to explain why I hate it (not sure). Then, here it is, well after a year since last play! Coincidence? Anyway, glad I missed it! :P

sheesh, I must be a crone then, because the first album I bought was a FogHat 45 Also, if RP will play this, why not play some TooL??

Good choice!
thank you for not playing the paul anka version.
Chris Cornell's voice turns me on. Soundgarden was the greatest mid-90s Band :!:
Superunknown was a great album. 1994, I worked a show at the Kitsap fairgrounds where Eleven, Tad(I think they played --forgive my memory), and Soundgarden all played. Cobain had died. The Puget Sound area was pretty tense. It was an amazing outside show. 5000 -7000 people. When Soundgarden came out, I just took out my earplugs and watched on-- which wasn't exactly what I was paid to do, but, whatever. For new folks that like Soundgarden, look to *Flower*, Ultramega OK. (seattle 1988, when Mudhoney would put mud on the stage and wallow in it for all our enjoyment. it was great.) *Fopp*, Screaming Life/Fopp/. *Get On The Snake*, Louder Than Love. *Hands All Over*, Louder Than Love. *Mind Riot*, BadMotorFinger. *Drawing Flies*, BadMotorFinger. (Drawing Flies is right after Mind Riot, and while it is a lesser track, the combination of both songs played in sequence is quite high.) *New Damage*, BadMotorFinger. *The Day I Tried To Live*, SuperUnknown. *Fell On Black Days*, SuperUnknown. *Kickstand*, SuperUnknown. *Rhinosaur*, Down on the Upside. small list

Yes! A great flashback to mid-90s rock and video. Love it!
This is still one of my favourite albums of all time. Darkly kickass.
Best music video of all time.
That was one weird video ....

Try Audioslave. It's a decent substitute. :nodhead:
Even though it got played out, I still love this song and welcome it here! Thanks Bill.
Great song from a great album! Takes me back to the summer of 94...

why not throw in another Johnny Cash cover while we're at it.

Great to hear the fantastic Soundgarden on RP. I\'d love to hear some Chris Cornell\'s solo work. His CD Euphoria Morning is pretty damned good.
Interesting lyrics. But nothing lyrically, or musically to give it any more than a good fence sitting. (rated a 5 just for you, BCNH, but it's my truth, too)
I love Chris Cornell\'s voice & the minor key he sings in.
The first one I vividly remember buying is Pink Floyd's "The Wall".

This is probably my least favorite Soundgarden song. I love the loud, angry stuff on Badmotorfinger (my pissed-off music), but that probably wouldn\'t work well for RadioParadise.. Chris Cornell has a very nice, quiet, sad song called \"Sunshower\". Unfortunately, the bit rate on my mp3 is too low :(
Originally Posted by rpfan: I WOULD like to hear the Pat Boone version and the Weird Al version, though only once.
There was a parody floating around credited to Weird Al that was actually Bob Rivers.. Although there is a bit of BHS (real lyrics) in the "Alternative Polka" medley on the "Bad Hair Day" Album. Geez, did that just label me a major geek, or what
great band but why play the song that\'s been played to death on fm?
Where\'s solo Chris Cornell? I haven\'t heard any of that on here. He really has one of the best voices out there today
This song grates on my ears and nerves every time I hear it, no matter what kind of mood I am in.

good stuff! :) :)
Beaten into banality by overplay on mainstream radio.
I\'m obviously missing something, but to me this song is extremely repetitive, thrashy, pompous, and ultimately pointless.
