They turned their backs
I made it too hard
Every place they touched me
Is a laceration now
Sometimes a wind comes out of nowhere
And knocks you off your feet
And look, see my tears
They fill the whole night sky
The whole night sky
Derailed and desperate
How did I get here?
Hanging from this high wire
By the tatters of my faith
Sometimes a wind comes out of nowhere
And knocks you off your feet
And look, see my tears
They fill the whole night sky
The whole night sky
Sometimes a wind comes out of nowhere
And knocks you sideways
And look, see my tears
They fill the whole night sky
The whole night sky
I made it too hard
Every place they touched me
Is a laceration now
Sometimes a wind comes out of nowhere
And knocks you off your feet
And look, see my tears
They fill the whole night sky
The whole night sky
Derailed and desperate
How did I get here?
Hanging from this high wire
By the tatters of my faith
Sometimes a wind comes out of nowhere
And knocks you off your feet
And look, see my tears
They fill the whole night sky
The whole night sky
Sometimes a wind comes out of nowhere
And knocks you sideways
And look, see my tears
They fill the whole night sky
The whole night sky

Yes this is the emotion i feel right now, a wind comes out of nowhere and knocks you sideways, and look see my tears...
Perfect
looking for a song from the early 80s by this guy. "Haunted"? So far I heard it then, can't find it now.
I've seen Bruce live at least 5x, all in MN back in the day. Both solo & w/band. He's consistently brilliant live. Guitar master. Witty banter. So worth it.
"This song has a part you HAVE to sing." Not you haf to sing, like an order.
Sheesh. smh. I honestly don't think I've heard this one.
I'm glad to have heard it now. Thanks.

A slow boat down an enchanting river. Thanks
Parts of this remind me of Joan Osborne's "What You Are."

I know that some people think of him as cheesy. To the contrary, I find him so brave in his willingness to consistently expose both his emotional vulnerability and his spiritual beliefs. Plus, he rocks.
Yes, I definitely agree and I love him for that.

Fill the whole night sky - be it joy, sadness or pain when you have feelings that fill the whole night sky you have probably had one of those moments that will change your life. Here's hoping you get these kinds of moments in your life.

Bruce Cockburn is one of the greatest of singer-songwriters: a great poet who sings his poems.
He's in a league with the best (even those whom some say can't sing) like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Neil Young, IMHO.
this whole album has some of the best lyrics i've ever encountered. Bruce is King of the Pen. Get Up Jonah, Nightrain, Mines of Mozambique, Pacing the Cage. this album sports 'em all.
and cover art by comic book artist Bill Sienkiewicz is just a complete unexpected bonus.

I know this isn't true... but it FEELS like this song should give anyone goosebumps when listening to it. I know its not true because I've played it for several people who were like "Meh... its ok". I love it though. By far my favorite song of his.

I would usually agree, but this album is sublime genius. His vocal delivery is what bugs me, so I recommend his "Speechless" instrumental album. Great bass accompaniment on this album.

Then turn it off, idiot!
As I sit here thinking about viewing the Perseid meteor shower this weekend, this song comes on.
Haunting.

I said it once before and I'll say it again. This is hands-down my favorite Bruce Cockburn album. The track "Bermingham Shadows" blows me away every time.
This little gem is one of my very favorite Cockburn songs. I almost drove my car off the side of the road, moved as I was by the refrain.
