When you here the sound a coming
Hear the drummers drumming
I want you to join together with the band
We don't move in any particular direction
And we don't make no collections
I want you to join together with the band

Do you really think I care
What you mean or what you wear
I want you to join together with the band
There's a million ways to last
And every one's a path
Come on and join together with the band

Join together, I want you to join together
Come on and join together with the band
We need you to join together, join together
Join together with the band

You don't have to play
You can follow or lead the way
I want you to join together with the band
We don't know where we're going
But the season's right for knowing
I want you to join together with the band

It's the singer not the song
That makes the music move along
I want you to join together with the band
This is the biggest band you'll find
It's as deep as it is wide
Come on and join together with the band

Join together, join together
Join together with the band
We need you to join together, join together
Join together with the band

According to Wiki, Daltry said it was a synth, & he did not approve of using it, since he is a "guitar man".
I can't help it.  Maybe it's a consequence of all that's swirling about our age and time right now but this seems a perfect song to describe democracy in action.  It's a hurly burly mess of a process, but by comparison with all the other ideiologies out there it seems the only one that works well enough to allow all of us to have a shot at a happy future.  But this just might be a post 4th of July hangover I'm feeling....I could be wrong.

Come together with the RN.  It's something other than else!

also, can I say that I hate it when RP lists a track from a "best of" record.. from 2002? this was originally released as a single in 1972.
just a minor note though, rock on.

Good Tune!

Both Pete and Simon Townsend on guitars, Ringo's son Zak (as noted) on drums plus various back ups. They fucking ROCKED. Better than bands their grandkids age. THIS exuberance reminds me of how my best friend Kevin, whom I met here in '83, after I had already kind of passed through a big Who phase years before, made me relive and even surpass it by digging out and playing songs such as this. A true Life-Support Band!

If you follow the Now Playing lists as closely as I have for the past four years, I believe you will find that Radiohead is far and away the most played artist here.  When In Rainbows came out I did keep track —— there was seldom a six hour block that didn't have at least one RH, um, piece, sometimes two.

Ugh.

I would also guess that the next most plays go to Pink Floyd, Dylan, Talking Heads/David Byrne, The Beatles/Lennon, and Porcupine Tree, although maybe not in that order.

While I'm here, I think this tune is one from a long list of The Who's classics.

Keith Moon. Wayward drumming at its best. I don't know about you but I can see him now in my minds eye, being a loon and having a great time.
Fantastic.....still actual...

Very good comment! For me, Bill ( or his computer DJ ) is playing nice music, thats important! Have a nice day, Bill (computer DJ) , Donald ?! Eh, or whatever?!

Definitively NOT their best tune but, well, it's The Who anyway.

I agree.
The Who were a rock band but not a traditional one.
Going off on a tangent was part of their attraction for me.

It didn't always work but I think it does here.

With the Jew's harp introduction, I knew it had to be either The Who or something from a Snoopy cartoon.

I'm a big Who fan but I'd rather hear one of their songs that doesn't get so much air play...maybe something from "The Who Sell Out" or "Live At Leeds" would be nice.

Unfortunately, they played at excessively high volume. I saw them @ Dade County College , Fla. in 1971. They were playing in a gymnasium and the sound was purely awful, way, way too loud, even for me and my dorm mates who liked loud music. We left the show early, along with quite a few other fans. We were all wondering why in the name of God would these guys want to assault an audience with pure sonic noise. After all, they were one of the top bands in the world with tons of musical talent. It just didn't make any sense. I'm still pissed about having to leave that show. Today, you can buy soft foam ear plug/protection to filter out distortion and attenuate volume. Back then you had to jam you fingers in your ears just to catch a few moments actual music.
