Roy is just sublime....need to check out his catalog.
Thank you for this. I will have to check out more of Roy's material.
Never heard of Roy Buchanan before. I'm in awe. His guitar sings, weeps, yearns.
He was in jail, drunk, I think. Suicide is always problematic in that case. And thanks RP, for the Best Guitarplayer You Never Heard Of.
Love Roy and this song, but always chuckle at that note bending solo section that sounds like he's stepping on cats.
I was thinking more of seagulls fighting over a french fry... (Remember sense of humor folks - the music is still impressive, but gotta say a few parts invoke memories hanging out behind the KFC in Charlevoix as a kid)
Всегда думал, что автором данной композиции является Gary Moore, а оказалось, что казалось...
EDIT - I see now this predates it... Now I know where Gary Moore get his influence (if not whole melody) from
[previous comment] Don't know if anyone else has commented how this sounds very like Parisian Walkways by Gary Moore (circ 1979?)
RP has this random attitude and throws the curve ball!
I've learnt more about music/musicians & bands on these posts than I have ever learnt elsewhere (without an 'active' search).
What I also love are the stories, the meetings, the whimsies are also told ...
Good forum!

This reminds me a lot of Jeff Beck's Cause We've Ended as Lovers from The Secret Policeman's Other Ball.

Saw him warm up for Stevie Ray Vaughan. Roy blew him away. Roy had his own sound. SRV was an overhyped clone
Please don't insult those who have passed away.
Well found, perfectly agree with you. A lot of technique here but not much real feeling in my opinion.
A reflection of his life.
This song was on Buchanan's second album which came out in 1972. The "Sweet Dreams" album shown above the title was a compilation album which was released about four years after Buchanan died.
Definitely wasn't listening to it when I was-5 !
Recall hearing it on the radio in D.C. the following morning.
His Family disputed the suicide finding.
I didn't know who he was back then.
Saw a very interesting documentary on him a few years ago that had a lot of home 8mm footage.
Rest In Peace Roy.
wow - will have to look into the story. Always enjoy hearing Mr. Buchanan.

This is why I love Radio Paradise.
from one LizK to another (LOL! I've been meaning to say hi ) I completely agree....this is some awesome guitar work. This came out my sophomore year of high school - there is NO way that I would have even thought to listen to this then. Thank GOD (and BillG) for changing tastes as one ages.

nothing to add here - TRUTH
The rumor was that Roy was offered the job after Mick Taylor quit/fired, but he turned down the Rolling Stones.
Go figure.
Ha! That's a good one. What bad drug are you on?
Roy had no competition.

+1 here. I had to come and check the player, I thought it was some unknown Gary Moore song (don't shoot! :) - to my ears this sounded very much like Gary Moore, I have no idea if he just "took some inspiration" from Roy Buchanan, who I see was about 12 years his senior). Amazing, I'll be listening to some more Roy today, I have a long drive ahead and I see many of his albums on Google Play. Thanks Bill!!

Meeeoooow, Pussy-cat!
OK, I am doubtless extremely uncool, but I think this is great.
And please excuse me, but is it a crime to try to be awesome?
You took the words outta my mouth
Yes, but any chance you could actually entertain someone other than yourself?
Must be a middle class white boy cultural thing.
I also recommend "Caruso"
I don't plane to be Caruso
And I'm not number one
And if you don't like my singing
Just put your needle on another song ..........
Is there anybody here having the exact reference for this song? The closest I've found is a cover by Fred Chapellier (A tribute to Roy Buchanan)...
Amen
I miss the guy a lot, despite his imperfections and being kind of fucked up.But aren't we all kinda that way?
I can count my real friends on my fingers.
Damn good thing I cut that fingertip off so I don't have to do any math about him, the dumb fucker.
That's beauty, boke.

Sorry, dude. I heard the first 2 notes and said to myself "That's Roy Buchanan".
Saw him once @ Springfield Symphony Hall, Springfield MA, ca 1975.
Absolutely fantastic.
Maybe so, but I can recognize brilliant music when I hear it.
I guess I couldn't find the Infinite rating in the drop down bar.
He made that guitar yowl like a cat!
Right. I find it shrill.
A cranked Telecaster guitar can be rather shrill. But don't ya just love it?
Same kind of guitar? This is so beautiful until the gosh-darned fade-out at the end!
Oh yes - you would have thought the producer could have come up with something better...
BANG! There you go.
I'd say, instinctively, it's the other way round.
Same kind of guitar? This is so beautiful until the gosh-darned fade-out at the end!
Yes it is.
i guess you could say you had me at hello.

This is some of the copy on the cover of this DVD I put together with John Peden. We are preparing a more extensive "Director's Cut" version including all sorts of guitar-oriented minuteae from the Collector's Choice and Guitar Safari vaults. It will be timed for release this winter in conjunction with an exhibition at the Fullerton Museum Center about the Telecaster.
Meantime, here's this shot of Roy by the great John Peden.

The Roy Buchanan Telly Talk DVD
In June of 1982, I had the privilege of sitting down with the premiere exponent of the blues-drenched Telecaster style of playing as he engaged in what was supposed to be the first of a series of guitar conversations for the video medium. As the editor of Guitar World, I had set up Guitar Galaxy as my own production company that distributed and produced ax-related artifacts such as The Guitar World According to Frank Zappa, The Guitar World According to Steve Stevens and in partnership with Jimi Hendrix's effects guru, Roger Mayer, the Mayer Fuzz Face, Mongoose and other radical devices. the Mayer Fuzz Face, Mongoose and other radical devices. We set up our interview session at Collector's Choice centerfold-meister John Peden's studio and let the tapes roll. Mr. Buchanan was the sweetest man I had ever met. He was somewhat shy at the outset, but then he warmed to the situation and began to noodle around with the vintage Telecaster that was presented to him, showing off some licks and answering my questions about music and guitar lore.
How sad to think that this gentle soul would no longer be with us just a short time later. We honor Roy's memory and pray that he may rest in peace.
