Elton John — Birds
There's some things I don't have now
Some things I don't talk about
These things are between myself and I
In my thick skull the joker hides
There's consequences I'm scared to taste
Cold hard truths I can't face
These days are different than the past
Reflections change in the looking glass
And everywhere I look there's something to learn
A sliver of truth from every bridge we burn
A hatful of quarters and a naked song
Don't answer the question of where we belong
How come birds
Don't fall from the sky when they die?
How come birds
Always look for a quiet place to hide?
These words
Can't explain what I feel inside
Like birds I need a quiet place to hide
Come on, birds
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh
These independent moves I make
This confidence I try to fake
You can hear the beating of my heart
But not a feather falling in the dark
And everything I hear never makes any sense
Another old prophet perched on the fence
A cupful of pencils and a self help guru
Don't answer the question of what I am to you
How come birds
Don't fall from the sky when they die?
How come birds
Always look for a quiet place to hide?
These words
Can't explain what I feel inside
Like birds I need a quiet place to hide
Come on, birds
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, oh
How come birds
Don't fall from the sky when they die?
How come birds
Always look for a quiet place to hide?
These words
Can't explain what I feel inside
Like birds I need a quiet place to hide, yeah
Like birds I need a quiet place to hide, oh yeah

Oh, birds

'Songs From The West Coast' is actually a very good album. A sharp realignment with the Elton John plot.
The album was recorded non-digitally, on analog tape.

Wow. First time I heard this song on WXPN (Univ. of PA), I thought it was some new up-and-coming Allman Brothers inspired/wannabe young band. Never, ever would've imagined in a million years it was Elton John, whose music I've always detested.
Love this song!
\"Why don\'t birds fall from the sky when they die?\" -- like that would be a GOOD thing?
Sometimes I can muster a smile when I remember the good old days of \"Rocket Man,\" but these days EJ mostly just gives me the creeps. Time to retire gracefully, Sir Elton ...
I too, thought this was the old EJ. Sounds like Sir John is healthy, happy and once again creating great music.
I changed my mind about this song. It gets better and better each time I hear it.
Class. :D
I thought EJ had lost the plot, The Lion King - Oh my God!!
but, all I can say is Reg, you did good
Though I haven\'t heard it all, I understand the whole album is more like \"Old, Cool Elton\"
Without even having the web site open, I knew that this was an old Elton John song. That surprised me, because I thought I\'d heard just about everything he\'d done back then. Imagine my surprise, etc. when I discovered it\'s *recent*.
And for those whose ears bleed when they hear this guy\'s stuff, all I can say is, Trust in Bill. :)
