I lie, I wait
I stop, I hesitate
I am, I breathe
I meant, I think of me

Is it any wonder I can't sleep?
All I have is all you gave to me
Is it any wonder I found peace through you?
Turn to the gates of heaven, to myself be damned
Turn away from light
It's not enough, just a touch
It's not enough

I taste, I love
I come, I bleed enough
I hate, I'm not
I was, I want too much

Is it any wonder I can't sleep?
All I have is all you gave to me
Is it any wonder I found peace through you?
Turn to the gates of heaven, to myself be damned
Turn away from light
It's not enough, just a touch
It's not enough, just a touch
It's not enough, just a touch
It's not enough, just a touch
It's not enough, just a touch
It's not enough, just a touch

This song was the tipping point of when the Pumpkins stopped being interesting to me.

The rest of us need earplugs for this one. Sometimes I can take his voice, but not with this song.

Hardly the best thing on there.

I agree.  I still find his nasal twang easier on the ears than Dylan or Waits (BUUUUURPPP.) I will admit to liking the earlier/less electronic Pumpkins better, but this is a great track with a crushing beat and usually gets me going a bit too fast on the motorcycle when it comes on.

Screw the haters.
1992! I've passed a lot of water since then.

It's got to be huge to go along with all their non-stop, monotonic, "whining"!

Note to these guys: look up harmony, melody, and musical hooks.

Darn it!  Now they got me whining! Their music is like a virus!

Amen.

Agree

Not the best of their catalog. Clearly done while Jimmy Chamberlain was absent. This was a good precursor to Adore, though. I suppose they used this track to start their transformation into what they would be in 1998.
Lost Highway gem
I love PSD ..when it is available.

Smashing Pumpkins w/o Jimmy Chamberlin ain't Smashing Pumpkins. 2.

Smashing Pumpkins w/o ANY of the original four (Chamberlain, Corgan, D'arcy, & Iha.) ain't Smashing Pumpkins!    It was the timing and the way the four played together that made those first five years or so so special - some of the finest rock'n'roll ever produced, actually.

Everything recorded after 'Siamese Dream', after their "fame", if you will, was just not the same (though 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' was special in it's own way - Corgan said at the time he was writing  "The Wall for Generation X" - oy-vey!)

The final nail in the coffin for the real Pumpkins (from Wiki);
July 11, 1996, when touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin and Chamberlin overdosed on heroin in a hotel room in New York City. Melvoin died, and Chamberlin was arrested for drug possession. A few days later, the band announced that Chamberlin had been fired as a result of the incident. The Pumpkins chose to finish the tour, and hired drummer Matt Walker and keyboardist Dennis Flemion. Corgan later said the decision to continue touring was the worst decision the band had ever made, damaging both their music and their reputation

Any new SP is like new G'n'R - a bunch of hired guns sadly trying to recreate a magic that was time and place - not just sound - which of course can not be done.

One of the most wonderfully unique voices in modern music.
Rotten Apple is an appropriate title for this.  Yikes!  How did this make it on?

from 1992...?

Wooow! Sooo good!

Cake -> Smashing Pumpkins...okay, I got it:
What are good bands with impressively small vocal range for 100, Alex?

Tasty set list, none the less!

This is indeed a rotten apple. {#Wink} But then again, I'm not a big fan of the Pumpkins.

This band coulda been a contendah if they had just found a lead singer!{#Stop}

Wikipedia is littered with opinions and propaganda from all sides.  Conservapedia is even further from encyclopedic - well, unless you agree with something like: "dinosaurs were created on day 6 of the creation week, approximately 6,000 years ago, along with other land animals, and therefore co-existed with humans".  There are likely few "pop culture" entries since they probably abhor popular culture - as many Conservatives have throughout history.
The Watchmen!

Buahahaha. I came on to say this lady sounds like she has a mustache.
Meh.

At best.

I think this is one of my fav SP songs. It's so different than the normal style. I think it still feels current, even though it's a 90's track.

Ein Hallo die Elbe abwärts von Dresden nach Hamburg. {#Dance}
godlike. {#Cool}
Not their greatest song, but I really like SP at all.
This is good song. Love the beat and the lyrics are not half bad for sure. {#Heartkiss}
They've morphed into Depeche Mode...at that point of course
Well, Jack White ain't married to Meg anymore, 'cause he is married to Karen "Fatty" Elson...

thank god for Conservapedia - everyone needs a fair and balanced view of the teletubbies!

Aww man....these guys had a really cool and cutting edge sound back in the early 90's...it was definately something special back then....i guess nowadays there are so many bands that have incorporated similar styles and sounds that it must seem pretty normal......but you can try this experiment at home to get the feel of the 90's: listen to Guns and Roses, then Poison, then Motely Crue, then Metallica (anything before Black) then, put on ANY Smashing Pumpkins album..it'll sound REAL special.
you're so right! it was very special. Have to say though, that even i'm not so into this anymore. But it deserves a special place. (this is not one of there better songs imo)

Really not liking that "relax ... don't do it" squishy synth biz.

Yeah. I wouldn't say ruin....I still like it, but the constant background drumming (drum machine?) is terrible!

What crap. Billy Corgan needs a lryngectomy to save us all.
The drums ruin this one.
This is my favorite song from the soundtrack. :) BOOYA! I got to correct Bill. :D O Crap! someone beat me to it. :(
I love Billy's voice. I know this makes some people think I'm insane, but whatever. I think it's hot as hell.
probably my favourite SP track (probably because like "The End is the Beginning" mentioned below, it doesn't sound like SP) I'd sure like to punch Billy Corgan though
I really like this song! Can't help having a soft spot for Billy Corgan's lyrics.

Some of the instrumentals on the Lost Highway soundtrack are stupendous. Adding a few to the playlist here would be great!

Never heard this but what an annoying 80's drum beat! This coming from a band I generally respect and like. Poor showing on this effort , IMHO.

This soundtrack, and thus "Eye", came out in between _Mellon Collie_ and _Adore_. "Eye" could fit well on _Adore_, which is a sort of techno-rock album. If you like this track, _Adore_ is definitely worth checking out. Another pair of Pumpkins tracks that came out around this time is "The End is the Beginning is the End" and "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning", which were both on the _Batman and Robin_ soundtrack. Those are sort of techo-pop-rock. I like the former, but not the latter. And of course the movie was torturously awful. I like this song quite a lot, and liked it a lot more after seeing it performed at the Bridge School Benefit. Acoustic. With Marilyn Manson also singing. Billy and Marilyn's voices meshed surprisingly well, even to me, who likes both their voices independently. (Those of you who complain about Billy's voice would have hated it, i'm sure.)
Easily my favorite Pumpkins song. (I love the Lost Highways soundtrack altogether--great blend of good rock and strange avante-garde jazz-type compositions. Especially Trent Reznor\'s saxophone playing towards the end). I haven\'t heard anything except radio stuff since Siamese dream. Do they have anything else that sounds comparable?
Niiice. I\'m just a SP freak, so my opinion isn\'t very objective. Growing up in the 90\'s they are sort of my \'led zeppelin\'. Wait, that\'s a horrible comparison. Maybe more like my \'Velvet Underground\'. Wait, maybe that\'s a worse comparison. Oh well, do you get my point?
His voice doesn\'t seem to fit in. Not that it does elsewhere, but he should at least stick to his guitar.
this was first on the Lost Highway soundtrack...play it more
