Any town, any day the separation's real
And I find it is based on nothing
Passed from father to son
Mothers to their girls enough
And I fall once again from my own ideals
And I fight back the fear of something
That I don't understand, but learned when I was young
And I know that it's strange, I know that it's strange
And I think, it will take us more than legislation
I think, it will take us more than filling graves
And I say, that you can not force appreciation
Lie on lie
I will not run away from the battle now
If it seems that's the way I'm fighting
I will just pass away the pieces of my life
'Cause I know that it's right, I know that it's right
And I think it will take us more than legislation
I think it will take us more than filling graves
And I say, that you can not force appreciation
Lie on lie
And I think it will take us more than legislation
I think it will take us more than filling graves
And I say, that you can not force appreciation
Lie on lie
Oh, and I think it will take us more than legislation
I think it will take us more than filling graves
And I say, that you can not force appreciation
Lie on lie
Oh, and I say lie on lie
And I say lie on lie
I say
And I find it is based on nothing
Passed from father to son
Mothers to their girls enough
And I fall once again from my own ideals
And I fight back the fear of something

Lie on lie

Even 26 years later, still one of my favorite albums/songs. So many nights in my new apt., listening on replay deep into the night.

Yeah, and I'm OK with that. Not every song has to be Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" or Pink Floyd's "Echoes"
I dig the mid-late 90's vibe. Fine with me.

This song should have been left in the 90s. It reeks of mediocre 90s rocks.
I have always liked this song especially. It's a wonderful album, one of the few I can just listen straight through. Michael Duff is pretty awesome.
Classic 4. No more, no less.
Dull. Just like a million other songs.

Ashame good bands like this are forced to break-up. Anyone know the "inside scoop"?
IIRC, they lost their record contract with Columbia. They put out a self-published CD, the name of which I cant remember but I have it at home (I'm at work) and that was about it for them.
Update: The name of the CD is Three 2s. It can be ordered from https://www.ticrecords.com/chalkfarm/order.html

Ah, memories of the late Channel 103.1 here in LA. It's nice to hear this song and not not because I'm listening to my iPod.
The successor band to Chalk Farm is Duff. Check them out at www.duffweb.com
i definitely hear the toad influence here as well... and i think that the CF album came out a few years after toad had their day - but this song is still far more entertaining to me than any of toad's music ever was.
TTWS has better lyrics, but these are not bad. Sometimes I just think poets who play guitar ought to stick to the pen rather than the pick.

I saw these guys once live at the Chili Cookoff in DC and really enjoyed the show. I think Notwithstanding had the potential to be a good album, but it just didn't catch on with much popular appeal (despite its 2 radio singles). Glad to hear their stuff is still circulating on here.
Here are the lyics:

Wow, sound-wise, it\'s like an ill-advised union of Incubus and Collective Soul and the Goo-Goo Dolls. Ick. Lyrically, it\'s better, at least.
Too bad these guys disbanded. I kind of like this song.
Good song, good lyrics.
\"...take us more than filling graves.\" Is my guess.

Actually, I think it's "...it will take us more than Philly grapes."

Its a decent rock n' roll song. What types of music DO you like?
I really like the passion and energy here. It\'s somewhat formula, but it has a great beat and makes me want to pay attention to the message. Looking forward to hearing it again.
I have this CD and like it. Its not the greatest band, or the greatest music but sometimes I just dig it. Nice to hear on the air. They are broken up now for those who cared one way or the other.

Wow, who would\'ve thought to hear this on the air!
Cool!
'legislation' is getting us nowhere, and graves are still filling up.
Musically just okay, but worth a couple more listens.
