The one that makes me scream", she said
"The one that makes me laugh", she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it,
And I'll promise you, I'll promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"
Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face, I kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow
"Why are you so far away?", she said
"Why won't you ever know,
That I'm in love with you?
That I'm in love with you?"
You - soft and only
You - lost and lonely
You - strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream
Daylight licked me into shape
I must've been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name,
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone, alone,
Alone above a raging sea
Stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me
You - soft and only
You - you're lost and lonely
You - just like heaven
Exactly why I’ve loved RP for so long. hpeyerl+rp wrote:
This is why I love RP. I have this song in my audio file collection and I can put it on shuffle and the song will come on but it'll still be mixed along the rest of my songs. RP introduces me to stuff I've never heard but love, and it also surprises me with a song that I absolutely love, strangely at just the right time, and it just makes my day! And there are no commercials and no loud-mouthed DJ's spewing garbage. Love it!
(When CD players started becoming affordable, I bought a cheapie, and two CD's. One of them was this CD. The other was REM Document.)
So many memories...
For instance, am I rating how good I think the song or how skilled the performance is? Sometimes.
Am I recognizing how influential or impactful I think it is? Sometimes.
Or am I simply rating how much I like it? Sometimes, and in this case, yes.
Therefore, I raise my personal rating from 9 to 10.
Yep, done. OK, next.
Run to the volume and CRANK IT! Dance and swirl and sing like you used to to this fabulous, immortal, time-capsule song! (At least, that's what I still happily do!). Love it; thanks, RP, and let's keep the whole thing going in magnificent, humming, self-perpetuating flux!
YES!!
Surprisingly great segue from Allman Brothers Band "One Way Out" (Eat a Peach) --> this.
Really Rockin'

If you can show me how you do that trick, I'll run away with you.
It is AWESOME
The eyeliner is fine, but he's always been a bit careless with the lip gloss.
Ok, may be grandkids now, meow...

Thanks for keeping it present :-)
As to the trick, I think there's the magic, the seductive interpretation as well as the real magic trick of feeling carried away, butterflies in your belly, when you realise you love someone and they come within your sight.
Thanks Bill, you never disappoint.

In fact, typically in most scoring systems 5, 6, 7 makes you passive, 8-10 is a promoter and 4 and fewer is a detractor.
Regardless, this track is clearly a 10, so it's a moot point :D
Net Promoter Score. The reason why so many service people are begging you for 9 & 10 ratings. Not sure "most scoring systems" is a correct characterization, though it's certainly prevalent enough these days.
What do you mean by "only" 7...?
I just keep wondering how so many people don't seem to understand the concept of a 1 to 10-rating system... One can also see that when way too many rate a song (or a movie!) with a '10' just because they like it. In other words: a '7' is good!

and then some!
I assumed he was mainly referring to an actual magic trick, thus the use of that word.
"...Smith said the opening line of the song ('Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick') refers to his childhood memories of mastering magic tricks, but added 'on another [level], it's about a seduction trick, from much later in my life'..."
I agree about that verse, and I've assumed that she just wanted to take him away from whomever he learned and practiced his 'tricks' on

Now that's a great Lazarus-like comment!
I came here to say that, only in the last few years, did I realize this was a different song than "Friday I'm in Love" - and while that song is OK, this one here is freaking awesome and I just now bumped it to a 9. If not for the sonic similarities to that other one I might even go to a 10. I just adore songs with a storyline....something more than just words that rhyme. LONG LIVE RP!!
Reminds me of a girl back then - no longer; ended as abruptly as this song...
I looked it up on your reccommendation, it had a nice girl-scouts-around-the-campfire sound to it but I didn't care for it
Searching for a worthwhile comment on here is difficult and then I found yours, 2020sk. Thanks!

I like reading this kind of posts in this era of divorces and unloyal behaviour.
My wife doesn't know this song, but I will try to remember to dance during this song when we are 26 years together. With 13 years we are half way and also still madly in love.
This song, I know,,,,, I always post about it. It just sends me back to the day. In fact it was 26 years ago yesterday.
I am a lucky person. I hope you and anyone else who finds songs that evoke the same feelings are as lucky.
Best wishes.
Take me away, DJ...

I guess rascal should have used a semi-colon instead of a comma.
Just wonderful...
I agree. The rest of their catalogue, however, seems less inspired and more depressive than this one. The cure for what, exactly? Whatever — dance on!
This.
And thought to myself, "What? I only gave it a 9?"
If any Cure song deserves a 10, it is surely this one. Well, and maybe Siamese Twins.
Not so bad for a cold Wednesday night in the dead of Winter.
What's that supposed to mean?
Beautiful and creative lyrically. Masterful tune and production. On top of all this, the song has not aged a day. (Like much of The Cure’s work.) Godlike.
