Cold late night, so long ago
When I was not so strong, you know
A pretty man came to me
Never seen eyes so blue
You know I could not run away, it seemed
We'd seen each other in a dream
Seemed like he knew me
He looked right through me
Yeah

"Come on home, girl", he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet, let's get high awhile"
"But try to understand"
"Try to understand"
"Try, try, try to understand"
"I'm a magic man"

Winter nights, we sang in tune
Played inside the months of moon
Never think of never
Let this spell last forever
Well, summer lover passed to fall
Tried to realize it all
Mama says she's worried
Growing up in a hurry
Yeah

"Come on home, girl", Mama cried on the phone
"Too soon to lose my baby" and "My girl should be at home"
But try to understand
Try to understand
Try, try, try to understand
He's a magic man, Mama
Ah, he's a magic man

"Come on home, girl," he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child"
But try to understand
Try to understand
Oh, oh
Try, try to understand
Try, try, try to understand
He's a magic man
Oh, yeah
Ooh, he got the magic hands

''Oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh''

"Come on home, girl," he said with a smile
"You don't have to love me yet, let's get high awhile"
"But try to understand"
"Try to understand"
"Try, try, try to understand"
"He's a magic man"
Yeah
Oh

The freaking at the end of the song is just great :-) Never noticed before, must have been cut out the radio edit?

I did not like this when it came out. I usually listened to this on a car radio or somebody else's cheap home Stereo. I had a killer stereo, JBL 3-way L-36, Dynaco preamp, EQ, power amp, and both Sennheiser HD 414 & 424 headphones. I never listened to this at home. ...However, listening to this now with FLAC and great phones, DAC & amp makes me have a new appreciation for the song! Great song! ...thanks to Radio Paradise, I now like and appreciate a LOT of older music that I did not like at the time! ....Once again, GREAT SONG!

The Audiophile appears!
Good tune!

Hats off to Bill for doing the geek stuff on point and keeping the data all those years

Agreed; great punchy sound. Recorded in Vancouver at the tiny Mushroom Studios in 1975 (and released on the local label Mushroom Records).
Awesome song. Is it about Manson? Keith Raniere?

Play  Barracuda!

I like to think the lyrics are :
"C'mon homegirl!"  he said with a smile
I was sixteen, and dating a brunette flute player with bangs.  So yeah, I was a bit of a fan.  Still kind of am.

Yeah. We started in Feb 2000.
Regardless if it was overplayed on many stations it's still a good song; one that fits Bill G's criteria of playing big hits of various eras.  And yes there are other Heart songs that are very good but received little or no airplay.  Hopefully Bill will include a few on RP's playlist.
Nice to hear while I'm in the garden!

Not a frequent appearance on RP, judging by the comments... not sure it's aged too well, the lyrics are a bit...    but still nice to hear again

My favorite song. I wanted to be like them.I performed this song with my rock band"paradox" in the highschool talent show. We Won !!
This song definetly contains Heart's greatest guitar riff.
Wow! Has it really been since 2003 that Bill has played this song? I don't mind hearing this song once in awhile, but I too would like to hear some of their deeper cuts once in awhile.
What's all the whining about? So what if its not Art, with a big 'A'. Its fun, brings back fond college memories, and I dunno what radio stations you're listening to, but I haven't heard in in quite awhile. And if you really still hate it, wait a few minutes, and it'll go away :)

Second that emotion, and supersize it.
I'll fifth everyone else's comments. If you're gonna play Heart, play something that hasn't been beaten to death and then flogged some more by corporate radio. Heart actually made some fairly interesting music that I've never heard on the radio: Mistral Wind, Magazine, Silver Wheels. None of it mind-blowing, but again, if you're gonna play Heart....
Fortunately the amount of airplay a song gets does not necessarily condem it from RP. If that were so we wouldn\'t be hearing any Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Stones, Tori Amos, Cheryl Crow, U2, Tracy Chapman, etc, etc, etc.
Heart was a great band but this song has been SO overdone. There are far better choices by this band. :(

GAWD! I clicked on here just to voice that very opinion. Please -- no more!
I\'ve always enjoyed the last two tracks of Little Queen; \"Cry to Me\" which folds into the mostly instrumental \"Go on Cry\". This set gets zero airplay but has a wonderful soulfullness to it.
It\'s a good song from my past also, but a bit overplayed. However, it belongs in RP in small doses.
To answer your on-air question: Yes, its a great song. I like it a lot. No, it doesn\'t really belong on RP because its played on standard radio a lot, as well as getting a LOT of airplay when it was new. But I understand your need to hear it. You probably don\'t listen to normal radio a lot. So I don\'t object, but I\'d rather hear something new or something older but obscure.
Always have loved Heart. Think I\'ve seen \'em three times. Bit I think a song like Dreamboat Annie would be more appropriate on RP. Just my 2cents.
there will be those listeners who complain about this song being on many commercial stations playlists, but not me. :D
