Mother told me, yes, she told me
That I'd meet girls like you
She also told me, "Stay away
You'll never know what you'll catch"
Just the other day I heard
Of a soldier's falling off
Some Indonesian junk
That's going round

Your Mommy's all right
Your Daddy's all right
They just seem a little weird
Surrender
Surrender
But don't give yourself away
Hey, heeeeeey

Father says, "Your mother's right
She's really up on things
Before we married, Mommy served
In the WACS in the Philippines"
Now, I had heard the WACS recruited
Old maids for the war
But mommy isn't one of those
I've known her all these years

Your Mommy's all right
Your Daddy's all right
They just seem a little weird
Surrender
Surrender
But don't give yourself away
Hey, heeeeeey

Whatever happened to all this season's
Losers of the year?
Every time I got to thinking
Here'd they disappear?
But when I woke up, Mom and Dad
Are rolling on the couch
Rolling numbers, rock and rollin'
Got my [[KISS]] records out

Your Mommy's all right
Your Daddy's all right
They just seem a little weird
Surrender
Surrender
But don't give yourself away
Hey, heeeeeey

Away
Away

Surrender
Surrender
But don't give yourself away
Surrender
Surrender
But don't give yourself away

Uh That's Bun E. to you sir.
70s-era photo of the 4 members of Cheap Trick

Someone's awful realization during the 70s:

1. Your guidance counselor split and became the drummer in a famous band.

2. He's getting more trim than you.
Yep...Song's still just as bad as when it came out
Right. 'S alright!  We're all alright.

The Ramones were definitely my favorite British punk band ever from Queens, N.Y.

Maybe Porcupine Tree borrowed something from them...

Yea me too. I mean, fancy spelling British with two t's {#Motor}
First time i've heard Cheap Trick on RP. Bit of a pleasent surprise.
I've still got the "Live At The Budokan" album - on yellow vinyl (for what its worth).

Ah yes, nostalgia's not what it used to be . . .
Conan O'Brien used this song for the introductory video when he took over The Tonight Show, and again on the night he left...both videos are cool and go along well with the song.  The first one is really, really neat though:

The charisma of Robin Zandah.  Outstanding, Bill.  You are the best.
reminiscent of the good times for me..{#Smile}

We just seem a little weird.  Used to be "They".  Now it feels like "WE".  :-)

Appropriately enough Cheap Trick was the opening act at the first concert I ever attended: KISS at the Regina Agridome in May 1977 or thereabouts...

Winter is officially over! Cheap Trick's on the radio!
All right detractors, surrender to Cheap Trick...no really...just do it, you'll feel better.{#Wave}
wow, hearing this song after so many years reveals how weak this song really was . . . It hasn't aged well.  Me on the other hand...

I love this song, and apparently Stephen Colbert does too.  Trivia....musicians from Cheap Trick composed his theme song.  No wonder I love that show!  Surrender to truthiness.

Best. Single. EVAR.

Mindless pop then, mindless pop now. A solid 2
Oh well. I cannot expect to agree with the song selection here always, but this was never any good when it was released and time has not improved the song or diminished my loathing for it. Maybe if I had been an alienated 13 year old when it came out...

See the mustache comin' in Rat?
I loved this song as a twelve year-old - cranking it up on my cheap turntable w/ an even cheaper pair of plastic headphones. Now, as a parent, I guess I can relate to it on another weird level. Timeless, imo.

Horrid.
a little odd for rp but still a good one...

Rick Nielsen hands down. The only one of those I'd even care to talk to.
Not bad, but I listen to RP so I don't have to hear songs like this. Heard it too often on "classic" rock stations.

There's just no way that I can be objective about this song. When I hear, suddenly I'm 30 years younger listening to WNEW in New York in high-school.
Wow... brings back lots of good memories.
Play "If It Takes A Lifetime" from Rockford - '06. Strong as ever.
My buddy sent me this yesterday. Continuing your thought process from yesterday, say you are flying a transatlantic, non-stop flight and you have to choose from these rockers who will be sitting next to you. Remember, you have to choose. I picked Rick Neilson!
One of my favorite songs on Guitar Hero.
Ah, great bar drinking song. I'm feeling a little younger right now!!!

As sublime as this is, I prefer the version on Live at Boudokan.

Song like this are why my amp goes to 11.
Awesome song! Live at Budokan was was one of the first albums I ever bought, on 8-track no less, when I was about 9 years old. Talk about bringing back memories . . .
Cheap Trick. Guilty Pleasure. What's the difference?
I heard 3 chords..... Man they look young there. I heard they are huge in Japan.
Working late (again) and was badly in need of some Cheap Trick. I am now full prepared to rock out with my c()ck out.
Song is nuts on expert....
Makes me want to find my old turntable, plug it into my stereo and play my Cheap Trick Live at Budokan LP along with some of my old Kiss records!
This. Rock. Quiteabit. Thanks!! BTW, the Now Playing thingy isn't updating. I had to search for this.

Exactly!
Surrender will always rock, but the sad part is...this song does not even come close to the true quality of music this band has produced over the years. Only true music lovers can appreciate what Cheap Trick has given the music world!!!!
Good fun blast from the past.
GO GUITAR HERO II!!!!
RP goes down market - shame about Bobby Brown.
Great Song from High School Days

Sorry your experience was so bad. I saw them in the mid 80's at a little venue in Austin and they ROCKED! Robin Zander was sick and yet still put on a serious show. Ended up with a guitar pick and ringing ears. :)
Cheap Trick is a quilty pleasure. Rockford Illinois rules. (not really)

Caught me by surprise, but glad to hear it. These guys are still at it, they were playing in Charlotte not long ago.
banish this to the '70s stream....bleh!!
Live version is a 10 this is a 9 I once watched most of a concert at the U.P. State Fair while standing on a post, waiting for my Dad and the rest of the family to show up so we could leave. Standing there looking over the fence I felt like the concert was just for me.
Fun to hear this song again which I think has withstood the test of time. Memories of growing up in Hamilton, ON and hearing this song pouring through/around my older brother's closed bedroom door.

Hometown boys! (Well, Rockford; close enough)
Hi! I graduated from Rockford East High School (won't say what year unless forced). I used to shop at Neilson's Music for strings and picks and such. Rick from Cheap Trick is their son.
I saw these guys in May 1977. 30 years ago...! They were unknown back then, and were backing up Kiss. It was the first rock concert I'd ever been to (I was 13) and I was totally confused when I entered the Regina Agridome and some band without makeup was playing!! I had no idea that there was something called a backup band back then...

The hair! The hair! Apart from that, I do enjoy this song.
Rick Neilson was also a big fan of Huntz Hall (Satch) from the Bowery Boys. That why he always wore the baseball cap. RobRyan wrote:
Cool. I knew Rick Neilson from this band in high school. He started in a high school dance band called the "Grim Reapers" and then was in a band called "Fuse" that actually cut a hard rock album. He mostly played keyboards and sang. I know, I know, I'm a namedropper.
The live version of this definitely gets a 10! This, simply a 8... The energy in the live recording is just so much more intense.
Ah, the studio version of Surrender. I love it. Rolling numbers Rock and rolling Got my KISS records out
This is too soon to play this again. Please keep on the shelf for at least six months between playings.
