The smokestack spitting black soot into the sooty sky
The load on the road brings a tear to the Indian's eye
The elephant won't forget what it's like inside his cage
The ringmaster's Telecaster sings on an empty stage

Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh

The girl with the curls and the sweet pink ribbon in her hair
She's crawlin' out her window 'cause her daddy just don't care
Come on

Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh

The clown with the frown driving down to the sidewalk fair
Finger on the trigger, let me tell you, it is quite a scare

Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh

The kids flip their lids when their heads hear that crazy sound
My neighbor digs the flavor, still, he's moving to another town
And I don't believe he's gonna come back

Goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh

And I don't know how you're taking all the shit you see
You don't believe anyone, but most of all, don't believe me
Only you

Goddamn right, it's a beautiful day (Only you)
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh, goddamn right, it's a beautiful day
Uh-huh

Anyone know what the CASIO keyboard sound at the beginning and end is? Maybe a Speak N Spell or something?
catchy tune. what do the adjusters do when something like 'stray cat blues' come on; are they goddamned grateful mick doesn't curse while singing about tag-teaming minors?

I'm 52 and I loved it.  I can understand the "not wanting to play it in an insurance office".  I mean, the insurance business is so full of purity and love.  Sorry about the sarcasm.  If you don't want it to offend any customers or coworkers, maybe you should get some earplugs.  And if you are the one offended, oh well.  Buy the Walmart version with "Doggone right, it's a beautiful day" (if such a thing exists).
Was this song off the playlist for THREE YEARS? There's not a comment between 2007 and 2010.

Actually no, an insurance office with 22 employees. I like RP so much i have it on the background music, as well as telephone hold with 10 active lines. I was humiliated and embarrassed by this. It's a good song if you are a kid and started smoking and want to show everyone how edgy and cool you are, but in the grownup world, this is patently inappropriate and embarrassing. A mature grownup does not cuss in public. But I thank you kindly for asking.

I'm 55(not a kid)and love this song.......goddamn right!
Get a life!
Not ashamed
to have other adults hear it either.

Would it make me a bad person if I suggested that Mr. Uptight roll up his "mature grownup"  really tight and shove it up his goddamn ass?
I am a mature grownup who pays my bills, works hard every day in a shirt and tie, and swears in public if I damn well feel like it, as long as I'm around adults of similar mindset.  I'm not going go to out of my way to offend people, but I'm also not going to censor myself because some prude gets his knickers in a twist.

And it serves him right for having people hear it like that.  Honestly if anyone is going to play something in public that isn't directly controlled and edited for content, then they shouldn't be surprised if they hear something that they don't like.  Want watered down and easily digestible mindless sheep sound?  Get Muzak or something.

edit: Yes, I know that was an old post...

I did when I could, but did not appreciate being blindsided. This is the .000001% of childish nonsense that corrupts RP.

All considerations of censorship aside, simply put, it is inappropriate. I was embarrassed to have this play in my place of business and scrambled to shut it off.

obviously not snorting what i am.
I like this one.
Gave it a Gd 9! Uh-huh.
I can't believe what I'm reading about the lyrics! Are you serious? If there were a god, do you really think he'd care about the ultimately meaningless words to a song? Don't you critics of "goddamn" have more pressing problems in your lives?
Goddamn right! It's a beautiful Song! Nice to hear after all these years

I agree. I love the tune but why does this song needlessly have to take the Lord's name in vain? Who's giving us the "beautiful day" after all? Personally, I find it objectionable and turn my sound off when it plays.
While this post is years old and probably meant humorously, I have to quote Leonard Cohen here in defense of E: You say I used the name in vain, but I don't even know the name, and if I did, well really, what's it to ya? Of course Leonard Cohen is Jewish which makes his point somewhat more poignant, but the fact remains that 'god' is not a name, and therefore saying 'goddamn' is not using anyone's name in vain.

*shrug* Don't get it myself. "Artistic expression" Rate it poorly...let'em know.

Because, what could be more emphatic than "goddamn right it's a beautiful day"? Maybe "fuckin'-A it's a beautiful day."
Groooving melody about the reality to what happens if you don't take care of your kids!
i could do w/out the g/d's. 1

That, and I can't help hearing: "the purpose of a man is to love a woman and the purpose of a woman is to love a man..."
Except those aren't the words. That bit of lyric is one of the more sexists you'll find in songs of that era, and most people don't even notice it. The words are "The purpose of a man is to love a woman , and the purpose of a woman is to love her man ". The implication is that a man is free to love any woman he wants, but a woman is only supposed to love "her man".

VERY gimmicky. Just plain silly, a failed joke.
You mean we CAN swear in these posts? Far fuckin' out! And a cool tune.
these guys are a trip--Great in concert!
haha this song always makes everybody in the room check their cell phones at the beginning UH HUH!
this song falls into that weird category of songs which have the word "blues" in their titles, but which are not, in fact, blues songs at all. i guess it expresses a blue mood, but why is it called "blues" when it's not? i think van morrison has one of these. can anyone here think of others? speaking of weird, suddenly bill's next song is van morrison! (gloria w/ john lee hooker) bill and i get on this WAVELENGTH sometimes...
I bought the "clean" version of the CD. The track "It's a Motherf***er" was replaced by "It's a Monstertrucker" What I thought was funny was the line from Grace Kelly Blues: Royal families don't have time for that shit survived the sensors but the line "God Damn Right" in this song was replaced by "od Damn Right"

Always felt that way about "Goddamn the Pusherman" (Steppenwolf), but this tune is so perky...its not grating....possibly annoying to some. Actually doesn't bother me....strange.

Weird. Just don't let your two-year-old hear it! Can you imagine your little kid blundering around the house, spouting "G*DDAMN RIGHT it's a beautiful day" in his/her piping voice, especially with company? Niiiiccce.
At our house, that would be soooo cool! Especially with company!!! Either they'd join in with us in the laughter and acknowledgement, or we'd have the best time watching them squirm--or even speak out about it! "What you resist, persists."
They seem like such nice boys, but do they have to work blue?
:p GOD DAMN RIGHT, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY! :p

I believe The Presidents of the United States were Beck\'s backup band. At least that\'s what Beck said just before he introduced them at KROQs Acoustic Xmas show back in the early 90s... goddammit! (pimp)

Well, personally I think he's singing "G_d" damn which makes it ok because of the underscore. Of course I could be wrong, it could be "Gawd" damn right which means he's not even talking about the G_d. Actually, I'm not taking your convictions lightly but personally I don't think that this is what was meant by "name in vain". Oh yeah, nice song :D

I bought this CD and it is absolutely one of my all time favorites. I got the censored version and it still sounds great.
Man do these guys even have a BAD song? They rock!

Hate to tell you this.. but you could be wrong in your religious beliefs... I seriously doubt god is going to sit there on your judgment day and knock you into hell for saying god damned or anything similar.. especially if you rescued kids from burning buildings and led a generally good life.. I think any of you that believe *I'm* going to hell are just fooling yourselves, or are hypocrites, or for those *true* believers, you shouldn't be listening to anything on this station as much of the music is by heathens, drug addicts, perverts, satanists, revivalists, hell.. a crap shoot of artists.. listening to ANY of them would certainly be akin to listening to the devil's words almost directly.. Instead... I would say you should judge for yourselves, preach to yourself and your family, leave the rest of us to do the same, if you like it, you like it, if you hate it, you hate it... we can all agree to disagree... that's freedom. -The T PS: Dude? Where's my god?... where's your god dude.. dude its not funny, where's my god dude... Dude!! you lost your god dude..
I\'ll say it is!! (pimp) BOOYAH!!

this song is soooooo cool!
The most optimistically pessimistic song ever made. Gotta love it!
All I can say is... Dude? Where\'s my blues? ;) Pretty decent song in any case.. :D
God Darn right, that's a beautiful song....... This song really cheers me up....and I find myself sometimes saying those lyrics to myself when I am having a good day.

I think this is a truly great song. Here\'s another reason why RIAA is stupid. Without RP, I\'d think the Eels were a one hit wonder novelty act. Because of RP, I\'ve bought a bunch of their disks. Also, just as an aside, this is well used in the ONLY movie Tom Green is in that\'s any good - \"Road Trip.\" Road Trip makes me crack up any time I see it. Its stupid, sophmoric, full of gratutious nudity (Amy Smart, yummy yummy yummy), drug references and bad acting, and despite all that, just hilarious. Highly recommended.
hmmmm... who knew that Eels used to be a Beck cover band. good stuff nonetheless.
Another great Eels song.
Hang on Sloopy?
Hey, this is a great song...
