Strangely compelling - even though as a PF fan over the years i usually hate covers of the Floyd Very Bad = Sissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb Good = Discoballs Rosebud Free Four and Have a Cigar Wyclef Jean = Wish You Were Here , not strictly a cover!!
whether it's a parody or not, tongue in cheek, or a serious cover-----it is WAY too much for the first thing in the morning. i agree, please make it stop!
No. Simple as that. No.
ROFL. Thanks for the laugh! :-)
For sure - but the song fits the notion... leathepea wrote:

Maybe somebody already made this observation (I don't want to wade through pages of comments at the moment), but did you guys ever stop to think that this is an intentional parody of the original - not a cover? A Saturday Night Live take on the original, if you will? That is what immediately occurred to me when I heard it. (And I don't even watch Saturday Night Live! LOL)
Where to begin with this song...Yes, Momma, you did indeed "make my nightmares come true." BTW, the RP listener that added the "under a wang" clip got a big laugh!

Did you hear the Natalie Merchant Space Oddity earlier?
I've always liked PF, not that I worship them or anything, but this just seems to be making fun of the music. The banjo is OK, and even the female vocal is acceptable, but it's the annoying male vocal that kills it (half-yodelling hill-billy type).
I hope that is the only band that ever recorded this PF song. Because the original is ALWAYS the BEST!!!

Time for some Dread Zeppelin.
They HAVE to be singing this with a smirk. As a big fan of PF, I can't help but laugh listening to it!

love this album!
Made me laugh, made me cry.
Well, since no one commented on this song for over three years, I thought I'd just say I can't hear any difference between this and the Pink Floyd version, so I don't know what all the fuss is about... EDIT - In the few minutes I was thinking about posting a comment, it looks like about a dozen people posted in the space of a minute or two. Oh well.
painful. but still somewhat funny.
what the hell is this CRAP!?
Might be the worst cover I have ever heard...

me too, so i split the difference and picked 4
Did she say "mommas gonna keep you under her wang"? Edit: I see that this has gotten about 7 "10" votes - WOW - while I see the humor, a 10??
Luther Wright and the THIS IS JUST Wrongs. AHH! No no no. Don't twang my Floyd. Oh no no no. I've had less disturbing nightmares. Many of them. (I'm I close minded?)lol.
A good antidote for being too uptight. After all, a boy's best friend is his mama. :)
This song just made my co-worker run from my office with hands cupped over his ears once he recognized the song. HAHAHAHAHA!!!
previously posted at Natalie Merchant's ver of Space OddIty
I gotta say, this one really made me laugh, I actually called one of my co-workers in and we both had a good chuckle... Maybe not the best cover in the world, but who cares, I always like hearing someone else trying a classic, if only for novelty's sake. And poo on all you prissy be'atchs out there whose ears can't handle anything short of perfection, why don't you just make your own music and only listen to it. Instead of putting down artists that some ppl must find talent in since they have apparently made a good chunk of $$$ as well as name recognition, whew... now to paste this over at Luther Wright's version of Mother 'cuz I can already hear the Belly-aching
Woohoo!! Luther! He and Sarah Harmer are the jems of Eastern Ontario. Love that back porch country twang!
mother to luther: yes it's just a waste of time.
BRILLIANT. Why did I never realize this was originally a country song?
It's either a 1 or a 7. I can't decide yet.
this makes me laugh, thanks for playing it bill. btw, the natalie cover of bowie was awful.
This is awful. I am horrified. Who thought this was a good idea? This should never have been allowed to happen. ...so then why am I laughing?
I think the evil Anti-Bill has taken over the station controls. That's the only plausible explanation I can think of.
Oooooooo . . . this is just a waste of time -
Oh God, no ...... Please, someone turn it off, my ears are bleeding .... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Just Wrong
This is just Wrong. Oh, so wrong. Two of the worst covers I've heard in quite some time in the last 5 songs. This one and Natalie Merchant's cover of Space Oddity. But this is much, much worse.
What the hell is this crap?? Yeah Luther Wright & the WRONGS allright!! Floyd should sue!
This is a really fun album. I especially like their version of Goodbye Blue Sky
omg!! die die die die!!! and take Natalie Merchant with you.

As Robert Plant once said "Does anybody remember laughter?" ;) :p This is fun. I would much rather hear this version instead of the original. Thanks RP!

If I may double-post :}, I'd love to hear this song (cover or original) followed by Kate Bush's amazing "Mother Stands for Comfort." It would make a great counter-point. Then, round it off with The Police's "Mother." That would be hilarious. ;)
Just freaky enough to keep me happy. Irritating just enough to keep me from liking it.
Agreed. As long as Bill plays the original more often of the two, I support keeping this on the playlist. It's the most inventive cover I've ever heard, and it plays well on several levels in that space between copy and creation.
Oddly, one of those songs that can cease all brain function for its duration. Can\'t say that I dislike it though. Just freaky enough to keep me happy. Irritating just enough to keep me from liking it.
Funny.
Somehow it loses the psychotic, totured, dark sound of the original - but then in a surreal way it's just as sick as the original - maybe that's it's saving grace..... NAH. Funny though
ummm.... what\'s going on? it was going so well....
Oh my................
That song was one of the most irritating I\'ve heard in awhile. Maybe that\'s the point
you know.. the groups' name should say it ALL .. Luther Wright is SOOOOOO Wrong... its like a guilty pleasure.. only where's the pleasure? :D I tell ya.. it takes all types.. makes me think that perhaps somethin's going on in 'paradise' that we weren't invited too at the time.. ;)
I missed the "Y'all aint gonna believe this shit!" at the beginning... I guess Dubya would buy the record...
it works in it\'s own rural way.
I am a Floyd fan >> I thought this was a great cover >> they don\'t try to sound like everyone else that tries to sound like Floyd........
I really did not to hear this butchering of Floyd And one last to any one who tells ME to lighten up. :p
Oh, lighten up. This song is hilarious!
Well, the only nice thing I can think to say is that this cleared up some of the spottier lyrical sections that I never quite heard in the original. And, while I rated it low, you have to admire anybody brave enough to cover Pink Floyd with a banjo... :p
I gave this a 2, not a 1, simply because the musicians had the balls to show up in the studio and actually record it. Not fond of the Pink Floyd version to begin with, but please, PLEASE, don\'t play this one again.
Dear Lord in heaven! What an incredible piece of steaming monkey barf! Bill, I know that the pleasure (and, frankly, the attraction for me) of Radio Paradise is that you can be experimental with your programming. I\'m afraid that this experiment has left the lab assistants with stage-three cancer and an unpleasant aroma in their nostrils that just won\'t go away. Thanks for pushing the edge, but do us a favour and push this one right over it. Cheers! strange
Great version and a very enjoyable album. Fun to listen to, as long as you take it for what it is, which is just plain fun, and pretty good musicianship, nothing more, nothing too serious. A sense of humor is required. :D
This is truly atrocious. And just plain profane. Love Floyd too much to listen to this sort of parody...but that\'s just me. I can see where someone would think this is funny. But me, DON\'T MESS WITH PINK! Anton - Somewhat grumpy now
Toooo stink\'n funny!!!
It\'s rare that RP plays a song that I don\'t care for. This is one of those times. Absolutely positively DREADFUL. It\'s an insult to a great song on a landmark album.
I bought the CD after hearing it on RP; I really liked this cut--this isn\'t even the best one on the CD. A lot of fun and some real musicianship.
OH NO!!

Its catchy ? I would rather catch a dose of the clap ;)
While I wouldn\'t want to hear this song on a REAL regular basis, once in awhile is a kick. I\'m a big Pink Floyd fan, but hearing a comic take on one of their songs doesn\'t ruin my day or anything. Frankly, this song is no worse (IMHO) than the \"Smoke Two Joints\" song or the Jimmy Buffet \"Fruitcakes\" songs that followed it today.
Bizarre.... don\'t know why this doesn\'t offend me. Somehow I think it should, but its too much fun. Just ordered the album!
Weird shit, Major. What is THAT?
Yuck... Yuck... Yuck!!!! Turning off radio paradise now!!!!
Mother, they dropped the bomb!!!!!!!!!! (LOL) I have to admit it put a smile on my face and made me laugh -
All I can say about this song is that it makes Mr. Cash\'s cover of U2\'s One sound good in comparison...
lol. Its 6:50 in the morning on a Wednesday. ;)
Wow, this was really bad! But it gave me good laugh anyway.
I\'m not sure if i should laugh or cry. Definetly a...different take on it. but it certainly makes me appreciate the original that much more.
This is so very, very, very twisted - but not necessarily in a bad way.
\"Mother do you think they\'ll try to break my bAwls..\" hehe - funny, but that is as far as it can go.
Mother says: "No, I don't think they'll like the song!" :(
Yeah, What makes this a great cover is the vocals, somehow, reveal the horror of the lyric in a new way. Something about those drawls really makes the evil more palpable! :)

LOL :p
Here come the screaming and wailing comments again. :) As usual, I\'ll giggle madly, and yet marvel at how this incongruous performance style reveals even more of just how musically good this song is. Three cheers for radioparadise!
HEHEHEHEHEHE....awww, c\'mon folks....lighten up.....I\'m a BIG Pink Floyd fan, and I think this and the Lunatic cover by Austin Lounge Lizards are hilarious. It\'s entertainment, not the end of the world! Don\'t take it so seriously.
Jeez! Mother, does anyone around here have a sense of humor? This is GREAT (but I don\'t want to hear it too much either . . .). What\'s the point of a cover if you don\'t make it your own!?!? And Wright certainly did THAT. Ranks right up there with Fred Zeppelin. :D
Hear, hear. Well said.

Hey, I kind of like this. It takes the amazing pretentiousness of the Floyd original and turns it on its head. Silly, but a nice little palate cleanser. Everybody needs to lighten up. \"It isn\'t Mozart, but its kinda catchy\" --- Bob Dylan
This is quite possibly my least favorite remake of any song. It is one of the few songs that get played on RP that I think truly sucks. That is all.
oh my god. please just don\'t play it too often (I was 17 and angst ridden when the original came out, so I\'m not responsible for my close attachment to this Floyd masterwork).
This is so bad, it\'s great!! Hilarious!
I think it\'s hilarious. And there\'s nothing wrong with levity in music. Not at all. :)
I\'ve never hated a thing more than I hate this version of this song. Yank it from your playlist, please -- if I never hear it again, it\'ll be too soon.

:D OMG it starts again... Bill .. you gotta stop buying that el cheapo equipment from south of the border... I mean really.. what it did when playing Pink Floyd.. wow.. never knew a cheap turntable could really whack out music this badly.. :D Honestly.. all this did was make me laugh.. like what you should never do to be a serious musician or something along those lines.. I can only imagine a fat radio executive some place, smoking a big fat stogie sayin\' in his normal manner Exec: \"It\'ll be the greatest thing since the original, you can\'t loose, now there is the advance pressing fee of 10000 dollars you\'ll pay me and you\'ll be up there next to Flood\" Luther: \"uh, that\'s Floyd sir\" Exec: \"yeah, Yeah! Even right next to them!\" anyway.. yeah.. keep this one.. play it once in a while when you really wanna stir up the posts.. :)
Provocation is a good thing Bill. Keep em coming I say.
Pretty funny......I am a die hard FLoyd fan, and I am glad I heard this..but I just don\'t want to hear it everyday. Pretty funny still. Look at it this way: if you never heard the Floyd version, you would say how great this songwriter is. It is good to hear covers done completely different now and then just to show how good the basic songwriting is behind the band.
STOP THE PAIN!!!!

seriously. i'm torn between crying and laughing on this one.
Absolutely priceless! I love it! :)
My ears are now bleeding.... this is an outrage!!
Ok, following Jhonny Cash's 'Personal Jesus', I'm just not laughing anymore. This is horrible.
Why not!! It\'s great to vary your listening. I heard an interview with Luther and they received permission from the Pink Floyd guys to go for it. No reason to be too much of a purist.
Very comical, but still a 1
This makes me want to break Luther Wright\'s balls.
I don\'t mind this, but it seems to piss off the office something fierce. Maybe we shouldn\'t play this one as much for fear of my co-workers putting it on another station. Deal?
ACK!!! Wayne, I think I\'m gonna hurl.
Mother WTF is going on? Mother did they have to kill this song? Mother do they really want to bleed my ears? Oooooooooh oooooh I think I'm laughing through my tears.... Let's see: and :( all apply... Thanks for playing this, Bill, really. You must play it again sometime, somewhere in late 2005 or so. :p
Doesn\'t really work, does it...
Nice to lighten it up a little from time to time. Now if you could just throw in The Gourds\' infamous cover of Snoop Dogg\'s Gin and Juice (often attributed to phish). At least no one would complain about disgracing a classic on that one.
this is just so wrong... like a melted-marshmallow sandwich - once is funny but more than once one starts suspecting bad taste :p
I love this, and I hate this, which makes me love it more.... I\'m so confused, I think I am going to go hide.
Mother can you please lower the volume.
Hahahaha! This is hilarious. Please don\'t play it very often though, Bill.

She played an AMAZING cover of comfortably numb that was worthy of listening to. This, on the other hand, is crap.
take life a little less seriously, you'll live longer.
ROFLMAO!! I'm not sure which is funnier -- the song or some of the reactions posted here. Bill and Luther really got 'em going. C'mon folks, PF is a great band but, it's not a religion. I've listened to PF since 1970. Just heard Luther's "cover" and got the joke in the first 3 bars. I give it an 8 but, it could wear out quickly if overplayed. Remember Elmo & Patsy? Luther, I want your tour schedule so I can buy an old van and follow you around until they reposess my house. :D bh
Is this for real?? Hilarious! I still give it a 1.
Great cover of this song. As an old (pre-Meddle) Floyd fan and a bluegrass musician I think it\'s great the way they covered the feel of the lyrics :D

You shouldn't have any trouble getting this CD :) cause you will be the only one buying it That's if any store will stocks it maybe Wal-Mart K-Mart already went tits-up once so they aren't putting it in their stores Enjoy
What\'s funny is how many people have talked about this tune in the past month! Oh, and the tune itself. haha I\'m going to HAVE to pick up this CD set! It makes me laugh in the same way \"Dread Zeppelin\" does. Great interpretation of a classic. Blarg!
This rendition leaves me ...lukewarm.
