I'm alone sitting with my empty glass
My four walls follow me through my past
I was on a Paris train I emerged in London rain
And you were waiting there swimming through apologies

I remember searching for the perfect words
I was hoping you might change your mind
I remember a soldier sleeping next to me
Riding on the metro

You wore white smiling as you took my hand
So removed we spoke of wintertime in France
Minutes passed with shallow words
Years have passed and still the hurt
I can see you now smiling as I pulled away

I remember the letter wrinkled in my hand
"I'll love you always" filled my eyes
I remember a night we walked along the Seine
Riding on the metro

I remember a feeling coming over me
The soldier turned, then looked away
I remember hating you for loving me
Riding on the metro

I'm alone sitting with my broken glass
My four walls follow me through my past
I was on a Paris train I emerged in London rain
And you were waiting there swimming through apologies - sorry

I remember searching for the perfect words
I was hoping you might change your mind
I remember a soldier sleeping next to me
Riding on the metro

Kraftwerk

Anybody fancy going to this one with me?

This band was so far ahead of it's time, for it's sound and the remixes they allowed to become early electronic dance hits.

Anyone can say what they want about "whoring for a paycheck" but if you have ever tried to make a living as an artist,  you know, that that is sometimes what pays the bills.

"I remember hating you for loving me"
Such a succinct and classic line about the madness of young romantic love!

Terri Nunn.
The fact that we never met tragically doomed our relationship.

logically he couldn't have meant anything else than that the song is 35years old, not himself.

Another giveaway: rolls her R in metro. Sounds to me like an English person speaking French.
The very first band I saw live in Paris in 1987 as a guest star for Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Great show and great sound, although the girl was darn young.

Yes, this has a very similar beat and production sound, but different melodies and chord progressions - in other words: not "identical in every way".  "Echo Beach" was by a different Canadian band: Martha & The Muffins, not Parachute Club.
this synth pop sound is once again hot

Loved this whole album.  Didn't help that I had a huge crush on Terri Nunn in the late 80s.

Back when this was written there was not much of a metro.  Mostly buses.

I’ve never heard this before but I know it's exactly the sort of thing I would have loved back in the early 80s. I would have been at that stage of my life where I wasn't a punk any more but hadn’t yet moved to Indie/Brit Pop.

{#Roflol}

I stopped hanging out at frat parties like that early in sophomore year. But I heard about a large, pudgy drunk on my freshman hall named Steve Twomey who had a failsafe of killing the romantic haze of songs like "Take My Breath Away." He'd look for a couple slow-dancing to a love song, lumber up to them and yell at the guy, "FUCK HER! I did!"

Later in the evening or the next day, when Steve had sobered up just a little, he'd apologize...but the thrill was surely gone by then. Apparently he became a better guy after college but died quite young. RIP, big fella.
Great band, great early song of theirs, superior new wave/early alternative stuff. Can't believe some of you snooty snotts only rate this a 6.3 Sheeeeeesh! Yes, Take my Breath Away wasn't a high moment, but they had some really good music in the day. Just 'cause they weren't some damn jam band or hipster come lately act, and were on early MTV rotation, they get dissed. Thanks Bill, keep on playing!
barely singing..
Is there a grinning, gothic emoticon? Because there should be.
 Yamson wrote:

Berlin released the first version so it's technically I guess it's not a "cover".  The song was written by Giorgio Moroder.
Pure Nostalgia, no more. Total Gary Numan rip-off here. Play Gary Numan!
Missing Persons were so much better. Play them too!
Sheesh!  I can't believe this hasn't been played for 3 years....  Glad I landed on it today hitting the PSD button from another unsavory song.  Prefer this a whole lot more!  {#Clap}

Is this about the DC Metro or the Berlin U-Bahn?  Either one is really pedestrian in excitement.  Now in the old days, the East German Strssenbahn (S-Bahn) was really scary.  The old overhead stations abandoned in the West were creepy, too, except for Mexikoplatz which was full of hippie girls, dope smoke and a fabulous coffee shop and bakery.  All gone now, I suppose, along with the KGB that rode the U-Bahn on the Purple Line past the Zoostrasse platform.

For me, this is a hard song to rate. In its own little universe it's pretty much perfect, but when compared to everything else the flaws are more visible. Taking that into account, I think a 7 is good.
Excellent.
I like the song, but every time I hear it I always think of the System of a Down cover.

How the heck did I have this marked as a 4?!?!?  Must'uv been a mistake.  Solid 6 easy.

Terri was always one of those people who factored into at least a few of the questions on the purity tests running around back in the mid 80's. :)

HA
Yeah, when she looked at the camera in this video and crooned, "soooorrry" I was... uh... MOVED. Oh to be 13 again.

I also prefer the System of a Down version. They definitely punch things up a bit. This version is still enjoyable, but really I only hear Serg in my head.

New Wave... But why not? It's like Hannio mentioned: One had to be here those days...

I hear they're still into this beat in Berlin - not sure there's any place for it now days - very dull!
Like it or hate it (and I like it), this is a definitive 80s tune.

I like narrative songs. This continues a grand tradition. Besides she's sexy. The tight (if repetetive) techno beats were ahead of their time. Straight up 10.
Too 80 ish.....and I hate the 80's

Well, you're not alone. And I was way past high school, so I supposedly should have known better.
When I think "'80s music", this certainly comes to mind.
I was in college radio when this song was released. It was cute and boring at the time and its cute-appeal has waned.

"Vould you like to pet my monkey?" Devo and the Bangles...? How about Paris Hilton and Co born 20 years earlier. Take your choice -- CRAP IS CRAP IS CRAP !

How much do I love this song? I can't quantify it. I know it doesn't deserve a 10 (that's reserved someone like Massive Attack) but I wish there was an "I know this isn't that great but it makes me really freakin' happy" vote.
