Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai Guru Deva Om

Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
And call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They stumble blindly as they make their way across the universe

Jai Guru Deva Om

Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing
Through my open mind inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
And calls me on and on across the universe

Jai Guru Deva Om

Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Jai Guru Deva

I just love this guy! What a beautiful voice!

Awful remake of an awesome song

The original is brilliant - if this was a new song, I would think it's ok(ish) - but it adds nothing, and subtracts quite a lot from the original...
I don't see the point - if you're going to cover a song, make it your own, and add something!

Rufus sings a very nice song, but I've always thought about cover songs: a) pay tribute to the original, and b) do it your own damn way...kinda like what adib says above...
bleh.
i am only sort of fond of this version, but i think that fiona apple does a brilliant version.  check it out and see for yourself...

Gruesome.

Good work.

I just got the CD Want One - for my birthday. Thanks Dad! Brilliant!

fantastic movie...and yes, please play more Rufus! {#Clap}
Love the Beatles, and this is one of my absolute favorite songs by them (or anyone else). I like this cover, too. For those of you who like this, here's the video for it which I also like. So there.

I wish Bill would play more some other Rufus songs...
I'll give it a 2 just because its not from across the universe.
Way too heavy-handed. Ugh.

I'll take care of that for you. :)
Fiona Apples might be better than the Beatles, but this is not.
love this song an' sung by rufus only makes me like it more! nothin's gonna change my world!
To bad I've rated this before, I'd like to give it another 1. Rufus is so, so sad. He doesn't even know how embarassing he is to himself.
I was going to give this effort a 5, until he couldn't even get the lyrics right, and his overwrought delivery started to jam in my ears. So a 2 it is. Give me the original versions (especially minus Phil Spector) anytime.
Ouch!
OH GOD NO!
Maybe it should have been recorded as an instrumental...
Though I like Rufus Wainwright very much, his style of singing does not fit this song at all. Nice try, but no thanks.

How about instead of beaming the original version of this, they beam a 192 stream of RP to Polaris? Might do a lot to help intergalactical relations. . .
You must not have watched "War of the Worlds"
The words "Jai Guru Deva" I believe means "Thank you, Guru Dev." Guru Dev was the spiritual master of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the originator of Transcendental Meditation.

i'm certainly not a fan of this Wainwright, but you guys are just too much!

This is a great version. His voice is so strong; it's a nice counterbalance to the lyrics. He makes "nothing's gonna change my world" sound like an anthemic cry to stand firm, as opposed to Lennon's sighing retreat. (Not a criticism of the original. Just an appreciation of a different interpretation.)
What he said.

I like this cover, what a talented family.
You must not have been following things- Loudon and Kate had kids( and believe it or not, this is the most talented one, if it can even be called that). window wrote:

Oh fer crissakes, I'm trying to be nice, but are you talking about this guy on this song? It's like it's being squeezed out of a pastry tube.

Marginally less irritating than the Lennon original, so worth a 2. Just ;-|
Oh, I couldn't agree more. Well said. I will rate it a 2 also.

I think this adds a little background to this collection, and that makes me appreciate it more.
True, it also leads to the lack of variance in timing from the original versions which seem to irk so many. I personally really like about 80% of this CD - especially the Eddie Vedder version of 'you've got to hide your love away'. Come on people, it's music. It's not sacred, a remake takes nothing away from the original. If you don't like it, there is always the the LRC over there for a few minutes.
A sound track for a movie about a mentally challenged man. A song by a mentally challenged musician for a sound track. Sounds fair.
Well, well. Mr. Ethel Merman does an interesting job on this one.
This truly sucks.
I like this. He had the guts to take on a St. Lennon song and make it his own, not an imitation. The more Rufus Wainwright I hear, the more I appreciate him.
Forgettable cover, thus unforgivable. How did he dare? Damn there is no zero in this scale!

Some songs just shouldn't be covered.
I think I just don't get this guy. I am thinking specifically about this and "Hallelujah"; both great songs... great songs that I would rather not hear if this guy is singing!

You speak blasphemy.
If he just weren't so nasaly.
Rufus is really great and very talented - I wish RP would play more of his songs, particularly from the Want One and Want Two albuns, 2 pearls.

The mystery necessary for this song is missing here.

I like this cover, what a talented family.
i didn't care for Rufus' cover at first either...but it really grew on me...chalk it up to another acquired taste. i wouldn't say it's the best Beatles cover on the I Am Sam soundtrack though. the Amiee Mann one is the sweetest.

hahahahahahhaaa!!!!
I'm beginning to think it's Rufus's mission in life to take all my favorite songs and ick them up.
How lame is this? 2 headed for 1
major suck-o barf-o. this song blows. please put them out of their misery and end this song
Wow! He sings this as if it were grand opera....it is kind of
I really liked when Fiona Apple covered this song for the "Pleasantville" soundtrack and the video was cool, she was in a 1950's cafe' singing and turning upside while people came in and trashed the place....kinda cool. Like this version and of course the original...but its just such a good song.
How does this add anything to the original? I can see how it detracts.
Nice singing, Rufus. Did he sing this at that John Lennon tribute a few years back?

Amen! He's got 3 albums out now, all of which have had great reviews. I'm sure he would fit perfectly on RP. Song suggestions from someone who has sung with him (yes, I'm bragging!): "Natasha", "California", "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk", and "One Man Guy" which was written by his dad, Louden Wainwright III.
It's Loudon Wainwright III. When did you sing with him?
