Well it was last October
on a Tuesday night
And she said you and me are over
if you're getting high tonight
But he runs straight down the white line
to let a good thing down
It wasn't driving her crazy
it drove her right outta town
There's a million miles to go
to where happiness lives
Yeah there's a million miles to go
to where happiness lives
(...where happiness lives...)
He put his mind in detention
and let his heart decide
Try and catch your attention
he's got to catch your eye
And use the last of the powder
that lets him push ahead.
Move at the speed of lightning
and leave the miles for dead
But there's a million miles to go
to where happiness lives
Yeah there's a million miles to go
to where happiness lives
There's a million miles to go
to where happiness lives
There's a million miles
...still to go...
(...where happiness lives...)
on a Tuesday night
And she said you and me are over
if you're getting high tonight
But he runs straight down the white line
to let a good thing down
It wasn't driving her crazy
it drove her right outta town
There's a million miles to go

Yeah there's a million miles to go

not a huge fan of this band or song, but Bill's ability to make songs fit never ceases to amaze me. this was a perfect end to a great set. can't tell you how many times i've tried to replicate a RP mix myself but i always fail miserably. Bill, you have a gift.

Not bad.. thought it was one of the Finn brothers or a Crowded House song I hadn't run across.....

Well-said, myersei! I agree totally. Sometimes, it's difficult to figure out where Bill's going with a particular set of songs, but it always seems to work. In fact, I think I might just leave RP on all night, and fall asleep to whatever plays. I trust the Goldsmiths with my dream-time...

jeez... where would the world be without the invention of the acoustic guitar? re: the previous 3 or 4 songs...
I pity and fear other planet's civilizations that have never came up with an equivalent instrument of expression. But then we came up with bagpipes...
Hey man, don't dis the bagpipes. They can be expressive and evocative in their own right, assuming you have a good player.

I think the bear ate him.

Happiness lives with a warm stack of pancakes.

Not really sure, but the cops are always going out there cuz the neighbor drinks too much and likes to smack the wife around...nice neighborhood though.

Apparently, happyness sitting in the woods with a trashcan.

From what I gather, its where I am not.

this is a great sounding song... but the breathiness is a bit too much.. someone should record it again without so much breathiness...

Is that a real Theramin being used?

Definitely notes of Neil Finn. I like it, breathing and all.
I like it too....very nice! I find his breathiness to be soft and sexy.
A couple of months ago I stumpled upon this group's only album and was quickly a believer after only one listen. THIS is a group which should continue to be heard. I love what "Uncut" had to say about this group: "Like being pawed and jawed by a country-loving cougar...deliciously understated."

I've put my finger on what was bugging me about this song. It is "breathy". All the singing is done with a lot of air being expelled.

Man, I absolutely love this song. I stumbled over a Magnet concert a couple of years ago in Oslo, by accident more than anything else. The setting was very intimate: just Even Johansen with a steel guitar in his lap, a drummer (who I think he'd borrowed from fellow Bergen band Sister Sonny) and a very lucky audience of about 50. I was blown away.
The next day I ran out to buy his excellent album "Quiet and still", and among many gems on the CD, "Where happiness lives" stands out. Also check out his latest album "On your side", which includes a nice cover of "Lay lady lay" featuring Gemma Hayes.
:nodhead:
Any singing teacher worth his or her salt will work to eliminate breathiness right away. It comes from wrong vocal technique and posture. It is always irritating to listen to, especially when you think of all the good singing that could be taking its place.

excellent point.
and this guy ain't the ONLY guilty party on rp!

Good observation. I don't mind it at all. The loud "breathing in" is a little distracting though.
Mediocre. Zzzz.
I can\'t get enough of this song!!
hmmmm 7 out of 10 Tesla\'s...
you can buy this single on www.platekompaniet.no
:)
It\'s like Finn lite.
Magnet played support for Doves during their UK tour this year.
Also, he is released under his real name "Even Johansen" in the US.
\"most excellent\" indeed!
anything more from these guys?
I love this song. I had a look at his website (www.homeofmagnet.com), and this EP is actually sold out. It might be hard to track down, especially outside Norway. The complete album is called Quiet and still, and is out in Norway on Rec90... If you want it elsewhere you'll have to wait for Utlimate Dilemma to release something.
pleasant :)
but they had such big aspirations...
