Love me tender,
Love me sweet,
Never let me go.
You have made my life complete,
And I love you so.

Love me tender,
Love me true,
All my dreams fulfilled.
For my darlin I love you,
And I always will.

Love me tender,
Love me long,
Take me to your heart.
For it's there that I belong,
And well never part.

Love me tender,
Love me dear,
Tell me you are mine.
Ill be yours through all the years,
Till the end of time.

(when at last my dreams come true
Darling this I know
Happiness will follow you
Everywhere you go).

Tony B. warned me when I first arrived in Shizuoka to teach for the first two of what would become 20 years in Japan, "Well, I hope you're good at singing karaoke, especially Elvis, and The Beatles, because that's what's going to be expected of you, no matter what..." He beat the customers to putting me on the spot, and had the Mama-san of his favorite local bar cue up THIS SONG for me. I remember sweating, and splashing my face with cold water in the bathroom as the song began playing and the crowd began to murmur. I somehow proceeded to nail it, and as I returned to my seat and saw one of the hostess gals pouring me a tall Kirin Ichiban-shibori, courtesy of Mama-san, who was clapping and waving, Tony grinned and slapped me on the back. As another dressed-to-kill and drop-dead gorgeous gal grabbed my leg and settled in beside me, Tony said, more than a bit wistfully, "Congratulations. Good job. You can sing. I'm jealous! Most of your drinking adventures in this country will be fully-funded!" Thanks, Elvis and RP! Sugoku natsukashii, yo!

Still as good as when I first heard it some 62 years ago and regardless of the naysayers comments, for a song to sound as pure and fresh even now it has to have redeeming qualities.  Sing on Elvis, you set the pop music world on it's ear,... and that was a good thing!

I Agree!

Wish the Jordanaires could sing at my funeral.
My older sister's heartthrob.

It becomes a better song if you hear the Civil War song "Ara Lee" from which Love me Tender is adapted.

Hopefully Jian will learn 'tender' in his therapy sessions.
Can't hear this now without thinking of the episode of HBO Vinyl with Elvis; just brilliant depiction of his drug use, frustrations, and containment by the Col.
well Thank you DJ, Thank you very much

Elvis was somewhat underused, misused and abused. Col. Parker made him a lot of $$, but kind of did him no favors. Some of Elvis's better musical and artistic impulses may have been quashed by Parker's control. On the other hand, we may never have had Elvis at all without Parker. It's almost a toss up. Personally, I think by the '70s Elvis was acting out his frustration at the trapped freedom bullshit of being a megastar but unable to explore the music or be the musician he may have wanted to be.  Also, he was a product of racist America. A white dude grinds his crotch and sings uptempo black gospel blues to audiences of panty-tossing white women. Huge splash.  Black dude, same music in 1958 Nashville, instead gets smashed and trashed. Elvis: great star but never reached his potential and got huge because he was a safe white boy singing black music to white women.
sounds like Lennon and Bowie have Bill's private request line number
Not sure if this makes a difference or not to the haters.  But listen to this song as if it were a brand new artist with a brand new song.  He crushes it.  Can you imagine the girls swooning, their guys getting jealous.  If he were doing this in a smokey nightclub, I can't even think of how many girls would visit him backstage.

If I had only learned to play guitar and sing....

So many more opportunities.
every song has its context.  8
I'm sure I saw this guy down the local chip shop the other day... ;-)

And I'd have to rate it a 10 to balance the score {#Cool}

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of homeless camps loves this song...  miss you, dad...

Kevin, kevin, k.... Elvis is a manifestation of our culture, and we're not. You can't hate or resent him for that; please give it up for Elvis.  Respect him as some sort of twisted, drug induced hallucination of Stardom. Like the ancients, the God of Pop Culture used his body for certain rituals. I hate most of his music but I love his Phenomenon, see the difference?
Cheez Whiz?
Very strange, I was just in Vegas for a friend's renewal of their vows.  In a Hangover-like wedding chapel.  The the "minister" was Elvis, and the bride walked down the aisle to Elvis singing this song.  Good times!

might have to check the movie out...
Elvis movies are the best, hero always wins!

You have to think, for once, about the concept "show", "performance", "stage", "entertainment", "mise en scene", "charisma", "artistic-personality".  It's around all that constitutes the work of artists. Of all the artists. Think about it.

Elvis sucks!
Now THAT is a detailed critique! Sadly, though, I've never heard of this "Elvis" character. Perhaps he'll make it big someday, what with his retro look and all....
Elvis sucks!
Thank you. Thank you very much.
Always reminds me of Wild at Heart... sigh, Nic Cage
Gee, not much respect or reverence expressed here. Not one of my personal favorites, but, c'mon, the man earned a place in rock history.

Someone wants to know if you're lonesome tonight....
If ever you're forced to do a karaoke (hey, it happens...) this is the song to choose.
the musical equivalent of a popping several valium
I dig it
Uncharacteristically understated. Very nice.
Long live The King.

Oh come on already! You're putting me to sleep, Bill.... (He sure had a nice voice once, though)
