You can close your eyes
And see a picture perfect life
Inside of your mind
Dreaming only of the days ahead
Wanted and wished for more than now
Or the days behind
You waste your time
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
You can never think
You can't even stop yourself
Before the words have been spoken
And you've already said
You would give everything
And something for nothing
Everybody thinks you're joking
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
You want to be the one
Made over be your own
Before and after
And a supermarket
Beauty in a bottle queen
Who'll one day grace a check-out counter
Magazine front cover
Though the fine print reads
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Lets it be broken
Broken
Broken
When your life is never what you wanted
Not even halfway normal
Just tarnished and soiled
When in your reach
A framed and frozen moment
So far from perfection
Not truth or transcendence
Will set you free
Still you don't believe
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
And see a picture perfect life
Inside of your mind
Dreaming only of the days ahead
Wanted and wished for more than now
Or the days behind
You waste your time
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
You can never think
You can't even stop yourself

When I first heard Tracy Chapman, I was hoping that she was a new Joan Armatrading, who was one of my favorite female vocalists in the 70's and 80's. I soon found, however, that that TC is no JA. Most of Tracy's songs are sung with the same notes, in the same shallow octave range with similar "poor me" messages. Joan sang about all sides of life with a gusto you could feel, and because of that, she was A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO. Please play some of Joan Armatrading's music on RP, Bill. Thanks!
Hey Bill, let's change the stations name. What about Tracy Chapmans Paradise?
If I ever need music to slit my wrists by, I now know what to listen to. Otherwise, no thanks. Really. I mean it.

...and how about one of her predecessors: Joan Armatrading? It would be great to hear some of her music--an obvious influence!
beautiful song
Those who say that all ther songs sounds the same have no ear for music, they are all kind of diferent somehow.

Not broken.
this song\'s amazing. please play more often
Sounds sort of like Natalie Merchant--but with a better voice.
More TC?
