Put your face up to the window
Tell me all about your gay folks
It feels better when you're in it
If you're nervous use the pay phone
Put your face where we can see it
Put it on a show on cable
You can really show it all there
Turn it on when you are able

Turn it on, turn it on and all the way up
Turn it on in your houses when you wake up
Turn it on when you ain't got no relation
To all those other stations turn it on

Put your life into a bubble
We can pick you up on radar
Hit a satelite with feeling
Give the people what they paid for

Turn it on, turn it on and all the way up
Turn it on in your houses when you wake up
Turn it on when you ain't got no relation
To all those other stations turn it on
Turn it on, turn it on and all the way up
Turn it on in your houses when you wake up
Turn it on when you ain't got no relation
To all those other stations turn it on
Turn it on, turn it on and all the way up
Turn it on in your houses when you wake up
Turn it on when you ain't got no relation
To all those other stations turn it on
Turn it on, turn it on and all the way up

Nice garage band you got there kiddo's, good luck and keep practicing....a lot.

Sage advice, maestro.  I guess it worked out - they've been releasing records for about 30 years.
One of the most awkward conversations I've ever had with my mother was trying to explain the Flaming Lips to her.  I may have well been speaking Greek.  Of course, she doesn't really listen to music.

Love me some Lips!
must take out headphones... the song is fine, but the singing... it is actually painfull
Lips are RAD!!!
Too bad they can't sing...

YAY!

Love this album!

Takes me back to my school days.

Turn it on!  And turn it up!

nope... it's missing the mark... what's so good about this?

Shame about the rough out-of-tune voice, though - like a less tuneful Rod Stewart.

Brings to mind the underground Big Time Television Network from "The Max Headroom Show"  It was broadcast from an old bus. {#Roflol}

YEAH!  Love these guys...and this is early Lips.  Well Done RP!

I dig the rough sounding guitar!!! {#Bananajam}
Oh yes.  Turn it on and turn it up!  8->9
Every once in a while RP throws one out there that suprises me. And definitely in a good way... this song takes me right back to runnin around with my high school buddies in a convertible. {#Motor}   thanks Bill!

An anthem of noncommercial small radio stations and access TV since it first came out. A nostalgic 9 from me.
I have this random bootleg of the Lips performing stuff from Zaireeka at a small club somewhere. Before they start playing you can hear a lone, persistent voice calling out from the back of the venue, "Turn It On!"
Ugh. Flaming Lips = automatic 1. I could hear better singing on karaoke night at 2 AM when everyone is completely trashed and tone-deaf.
This is the funniest comment page ever! You guys rock.
is it a good sign when you are getting more enjoyment from the clever postings on the comment page than the actual song?
YES!
now I want tangerines or magazines or maybe some vaseline
Was cruising down a thin grey-linen road in my 2105 Dirt-Devil vacu-car during the early paleolithic era (think more volcanos, less dinosaurs), and Wayne drops out of the sky, hands me a PB&J sammich, and everything just made sense. Those were the days, but I guess you had to be there...

Was that you? You bastard! That was MY gig! I headed over to the Ford pavilion to go to take a leak, got lost and when I got back, someone had taken over my spot playing the vibes. I haven't been able to get a gig since and now wash windows for hand-outs where the GCP exits onto Northern Boulevard. I hope you're proud of yourself!
Too good! Better than the music by far. There could well be a rating system for comments. I agree you get 8

Saw them last night. Man, what a show! Everything you've heard about their live act is true. Costumed fans dancing on stage, confetti cannons, strobe lights, sparklers and smoke machines, and Wayne crowd surfing in a big hamster ball. Oh, and the music was tight, high energy, and life-affirming as always. Go see them if you get a chance!
Yup, they are a must see

I sat in on vibraphone with these guys at the Oklahoma pavilion at the '64 World's Fair in New York. We were in the shadow of that big Globe thing and stayed cool by getting splashed by the gators at the Florida pavilion next door. Terrible crowd of Canadians just looking for a decent beer and yelling requests for Beatles covers. We played for midway passes just to ride the big Firestone tire ferris wheel, man those were the days.

I didn't care much for the tune, but the words... I would give the words an 8 or 9... not the lyrics, but the comments inspired by the original goof (about the band being from San Francisco in the 60's). You guys are funny. I give you a 9 and an emoticon. two emoticons and an 8
It is so wrong to cut off the end of this song, so very very wrong......

I hung out with these guys in 2056, they were great. They aren't very good rocketship keepers, however: what a mess! I'm talking dirty food pods everywhere! And don't get me started on the wookie hair balls!
I've started to like these guys. I DO wish they could sing, though.
i was in the fox holes with these guys back in the '40s, we would call up the captain and ask him for a pool table to be flown in, with leveling capability in the trenches. it was awful difficult fying it in with the helicopter, then setting it up in the dirt--boy those were some days.

Working like mad to perpetuate madness... I want to go on one of their cruises!
I used to hang with these guys in the '70s. They were totally impossible to deal with. Tell you one thing, do another, sleep with your girlfriend, kick your dog, steal your grandmother's government cheese. No, wait. I think that was the Flaming Assholes. Different band. Never mind.
I prefer the harpsichord version these guys did back when we were all chillin' in the Baroque Period.

if you are struggling with that question after 20 some years of music then you probably will never get the answer you are looking for.

Excellent! Great Friday morning music!
Boy, is this a fun song or what.
I used to hang out with these guys during the Great Depression. Too bad they couldn't play electric way back then ... Turn it on, plug it in, play it loud !!! Go Lips Go !!!

Wow, a Flaming Lips song that's actually "accessible" and enjoyable without being odd or weird. Not that there's anything wrong with odd or weird ("Race for the Prize" is one of my favorite all-time songs, but most Flaming Lips is just "too much work" for me).
Actually I like their eccentric work better. It's what grabs me with their music. In the case of the Flaming Lips, accessible is bad.
Doesn't turn me on.

Bluegrass version on the single was even better.
Ugggg - Turn it OFF.
Love this song no matter how many times I hear it. You really need to crank it up to fully appreciate it (which I always do). Should have been named Turn It Up! BTW, the video is as fun as the song. Check it out at their web site at https://www.flaminglips.com. It's a fantastic web site. Won a webby award a year or two back and lots of great art work by Wayne Coyne their lead singer.
Excellent song. Excellent album.

I spent some time with these guys in San Francisco in the late 60's but only saw them a couple of times. They were loud!! Sounds good in the new millenium; at the time they sounded...different. Like the Beatles early stuff but cranked.
are you thinking of The Flaming Groovies?

I'm sure he meant to say "80s". This song is so cool. As are all things Lips. Could do without the screeching at the end, though.
What's all this crap about 50's and 60's? The singer is my age which would put him in the 'not born yet catagory' for the 50's and in the single digits for age through the 60's.
Pretty damn good. I'm surprised.
Cool, I like it. I hung around with these guys back in the mid '50s. They sounded different then too, these guys are musical chameleons.
Can you get me any of that acid Mike? Hearing bands 30 years before they were around must be a real cool trip! Mikec445 wrote:

The late '60s? So these guys were, what, 8, 9 years old ---- no wonder you didn't see them that often ---> it was probably past their bedtime!

ouch.. the end with all that feedback hurts my wee little ears!
