This music is as stupidly bad as the terribly-terribly disgusting cover-"design"

More than 4 notes in the vocals might add to the interest, as might a more varied background. As it stands, this is the stuff of lullabies. 3 from the suddenly somnolent Nottingham jury
Positive association from past has its thumb on the scale for sure.

It's a dandy! Wire is wire...unique. BTW the HBO show is amazing too!

I haven't heard this quirky gem in a long time even though I have the album. Just another reason RP rocks.
I saw these guys open for Thomas Dolby, O.M.D. and Depeche Mode at the famous 101 show in 1988. I was already a fan (though not as familiar with their earlier work at the time) and I liked them even more after seeing them live.

Major memories!!!! thanks, Bill!
Even Wire's more "accessible" tracks are more interesting than most "edgy" songs by other bands. I like the song Ambitious. (When it's cold I feel cold, but when it's hot I feel ambitious.) That'd be nice to hear one day on RP.
The sampling on this is so incoherent that I had to make sure I didn't have two audio sources playing.
This really deserves to be played more than once per year....

We didn't start the wire.
It was always burning since the world was turning.
Even though this was Wire at their most accessible, it's still great. More Wire!
Whoa, haven't heard this in a long time! I like it :)

It's certainly up there, along with Fragile, Ex Lion Tamer, Outdoor Miner, and On Returning... any of the above would be a great addition to the playlist.
"It" above being that "Map Ref."
And I agree, these would all be great additions to the playlist.
would love to hear ahead, that really gets me goin
In reading these comments, apparently few of you realizes that Wire has been around since the 70s...they are considered pioneers in modern music. This is one of the most influential bands of the 20th century in rock. Seriously.
Unfortunately, this is not one of their better songs during a period when they were making accessible music. Check out their new album, "Send" or their earlier efforts. These guys seriously rock!

Didn't know Morrissey formed a new band...
Not bad though.
As a band, Wire predates Smiths by about 56 years. I'm not going to say that this later release wasn't influenced by Smiths' success, but Wire really was the start of the "Not New Wave, Not Punk" sound that Smiths, REM and many more turned into "Alternative."
Holy track from a John Hughes movie that never was!

:) I was waiting for someone to say that.
Serious nostalgia...

Good stuff here, but am I hearing echoes of The Smiths? That's isn't really a bad thing...these guys might be more cheerful than the Smiths, but then ANYONE was more cheerful than the Smiths.

Takes me back to '88. Thanks RP!
Here i am riding a motorcoach between villages in Yorkshire...looking out at the rain, sun, rain...as clouds race across the dale.
No, actually, I am here at my desk. Oh well, it was nice for a moment.
very cool indeed

Not Wire's best in my opinion, but great to hear them nonetheless.
