Ditto. I hadn't heard this song for a few months, so I looked at my 9 rating and assumed most listeners liked the song, then I looked at some of the posts. OK, I understand that people might not like the song, but it's hard to understand how such elevating music could inspire some of the serious negative responses.
I like this version of the song -- though I still like the original slightly better. For this song, the "bluegrassing" actually works well. The rest of the CD is not that great in comparison.

You seem to miss all the emotion in this song. I hope you die a very painful death!!

I think this is better than the original, and I liked the original, in spite of (or maybe because of) its melodrama.
Metallica bites bad enough..... What IS this garbage? Now, maybe I would be interested in a bluegrass version of "Free For All" or "Passage to Bankok."
Go to check all the metal cover from bluegrass bands it seems to be a huge underground bluegrass movement, including kiss and AC/DC too

Fun Cover of a wonderfull original...
Metallica palatable

this is a well done cover. but it begs the question: were these people seriously covering this song? or was this some kind of joke? heh.
I heard it and I was wondering if it were a feature song in the spoof documentary "A Mighty Wind".

I would have liked it better as an instrumental... Fun cover anyway! :D

Not quite as entertaining as The Austin Lounge Lizards doing a cover of Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage", but still quite amusing.
And speaking of the Lounge Lizards.... we need some on RP!
I love this!!!
took a few minutes to figure out the original (I thought of the Dead too at 1st). Great cover, I liked the original in it's day, but probably wouldn't listen to it these days though, The metal has rusted, the punk rages on though...

... or Luther Wright and the Wrongs' "Rebuild the Wall." "Are there any deer in the theatre tonight? Get 'em up against the Wall ..."
No! No, no, no. "tribute to", not "butchery of". That was painful. Perhaps, for people who love bluegrass and hate metal, it was better than the original, but as someone who likes both metal and bluegrass, I must say that rendition was utterly unnecessary.
According to All Music Guide and here the artist is actually Iron Horse and the CD is called FADE TO BLUEGRASS: THE BLUEGRASS TRIBUTE TO METALLICA
OK, this simply thrashes my CD of early music group Rondellus doing Black Sabbath tunes. Not sure about the followup Floyd cover, though.

This is great. I must sheepishly admit that I was a fan of this song and Metallica in my teen years during the 80's. This cover is the "adult" version. Kinda represents the maturation of my music tastes, so I can still listen to Metallica without banging my (spiked) head.

Yes, this is definitely one of the smirkier moments I've had listening to RP. Nearly a full grin, but cooler. Love it.
I don't usually like banjo, but this is works well as a cover! Unlike the Metallica version, I can actually understand the words, and they are quite good.
This was surprisingly good. I'd never really listened to the lyrics before. It's actually a good song. Also a good cover. As Dylan said to Jimi, "Wow. I'd never though of it like that" (Watchtower).
hah! I like it!
come on folks, have a sense of humor! i actually like it better than the original ...
On first hearing this I thought it just might be a bit of a joke - but wasn't too sure at first as I started to like the sound of the banjo's etc. .... ... then the vocals started and I knew for definite ... it was a Joke and a very bad one!! . So please don't play again.
Part of me thinks that Bill keeps some songs in the rotation just to piss people off and elicit responses. This is one of those songs. It's bad... it might be better if there was no singing but I can't say for certain.

I was sitting here tapping my foot going...gosh....where do I recognize this from? Did the Dead play it in one of their bluegrassy moments? Someone else.... Wait....oh My GOSH!!!! Talk about Bluegrass up your a**!!!! Fun and surprisingly GREAT! Thanks RP!!!
Oh my God, that was my EXACT reaction! I like Metallica okay, but am always interested in new & different covers. Someone mentioned that a lot of people hated Hayseed Dixie's stuff (for those who don't know them, they are a bluegrass band covering AC/DC), so I won't bother comparing them, but I thought both of these were hilarious! And fun!
Not a big fan of the vocals, but damn, that banjo's smokin'.
yessss! I can't help but grin ear to ear every time I hear this--puts me in an instant good mood--
Great execution of what could have been very cheesy.
Cool! I'm a big bluegrass fan, but I usually despise the "Picking on" cd's. This, however, works for some reason.
When I initially heard this song, and saw the RP listing, I started chuckling. Don't know why, but I do like this cover -- hate Metallica. Guess it's no stranger than some of the brilliant covers Johnny Cash has done in recent years. For example, his stunning cover of the NiN tune "Hurt".
Just shows that a well written song remains so in almost any musical genre. Very good.
The only Metallica song I really liked and now there is a better version!!! I wonder if these guys get as cranky if someone downloads their tunes?
No. Just no. No no no no. Did I say no? I actually saw this album not too long ago, and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I never I thought I'd actually have to listen to it... Somebody has a sick sense of humor. Just don't ever play it again, and we'll forget this ever happened, 'k?

To be blunt, I had to check to make sure that "Unforgiven" didn't start out as a bluegrass song that Metallica covered! The feel and lyrics fit bluegrass very well just as well as metal, IMHO. Raven
So tell me more about this country & western band named Metallica.
Don't know the original (nor do I need to), but I suspect this is better ;)
i dig it
i can dig it - nice harmonies
Ummm?.... NO! <-X
Never really been a fan of Metalica, but this is just... I mean... what I'm trying to say is.... hmmm..... Damn!!! This hurts!!
Not quite as entertaining as The Austin Lounge Lizards doing a cover of Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage", but still quite amusing.
WOOOHOOOO! :whip:
It fits. I like it.
Come on people. Of course it isn't as good as the original. But its a bluegrass band covering a Metallica tune. I dig it.
Uh, no.
Reminds me of Hayseed Dixie, which, if memory serves, lots of RP'ers seem to hate. Personally, I don't think this version is any worse than Metallica's.
It's better than the original. I give it a 1 rating.
Yeehaw! Lookee here, Vern, I got me the Josey Wales!
Kind of works, to my slight surpirse. In part because the musicians seem to know what they're doing, and they commit to the cover instead of a schtick.
Now this cover is fantastic. I'm a long time fan of Metallica (until the past few years), but I never would have guessed that the song would sound so damn good as bluegrass.
wow. 8O i would never have thought this would work. but it does, somehow... i give it a "quite likeable" ...now follow up with the seldom scene to make it perfect
what's the deal w/ bluegrass covers? This and the Gourds... Must say, the bumpkin in me is starting to like the bluegrass a little.
Yessss! I love it!
All right. I must disagree with you guys. I think this sounds GREAT. It just goes to show how GRAET Metallica's music is, that it holds its essense in so many different styles...
it took me a minute to realize what this was! i like it (of course, i'm a sucker for banjos...)
Weird. I like the Metallica version. This is very bizarre.
First Dolly, now this. What is up with bluegrass redoing pop hits? Almost reminds me of rap :-k
relatively amusing...
Give me the Metallica version ANY day.
It was ok until he started singing....
