Won't you please let me go?
These words lie inside they hurt me so
And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
I'm not the kind that needs to tell you
Just what you want me to
I saw you this morning
I thought that you might like to know
I received your message in full a few days ago
I understood every word that it said
And now that I've actually heard it
You're going to regret
And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what you want me to
You're not the kind that needs to tell me
About the birds and the bees
Do you find this happens all the time?
Crucial point one day becomes a crime
And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
And I'm not the kind that needs to tell you
I've lost you
I've lost you
I've lost you

GREAT dance song, alhtough a bit more treble-y than I remember it (seemed to remember a lot more bass?)
It's oké to rate this song as "average", when you're not to familiar with the 80's period.
But when you have lived the 80's to its limits, you must be convinced of the enormous impact of this song, of its album, of its band.
renewing, refreshing, underground to dance : it was really one of the greatest songs of its time !
does anyone know any other semi popular covers of this song - trying to place one, but I may be crazy....

The vocals reminded me of the Anyone Else but You by the Moldy Peaches (it was in the movie Juno).

Just because you may have been young or not "fully developed" when this song came out doesn't mean everyone else was. It's not a "great opus", but it works.
I understand the sentimental value of a song like this...
...but for most folks with that sentimental value, I suspect your musical "taste buds" weren't as fully developed as they are now when this song came out.
Because as far as the musical value this has added to my life... I can't find it. In fact, I think I might be less intelligent because of it.
Sorry...

great song. defines the 80's. lot's of memories dug up by this one...
Driving round with four mates in my Mini 1000cc as fast as possible just laughing and not caring - memories
great 80's rock tune. perfect for RP rotation.

Condescending much?
Those of us who chose to listen to stuff like this back then did so because we had sense enough to reject the MTV tripe that people with "good taste" (like you?) seemed to love so much.

Why do I like this tune today? weird.
Odd transition from Los Lobos...

Doubt it's because of the song, you're probably just dumb
A solid 8 for the song btw

my favorite new order song.

Yep, me too
This song comes across as being somewhat transitional; at the point they recorded it, New Order was just past halfway towards shaking off their Joy Division sound-and-feel roots. Blue Monday points the way to what New Order was to ultimately become.

Are you saying this song "needs more notes"? Hmmm
Yes, Maybe it would have been nice to have another riff or chord change to go to once in a while?!?!?
For those of you who are interested the film 'Control' about Ian Curtis' life is out in Septmeber 2007 and I think won the title of Best European Film at last week's Cannes Film Festival.

Horrible, Just horrible.
How does a nice John Tesh Project CD sound for you? He sings really nice - no yelling! Plus he does change chord combinations up a bit.

this is absolutely the "sound of my life"!...the straight rithm, the bass-line, the solo-string-chorused guitar, the voice and the way to sing.... this is me!
simple.
which is good.
What an awesome song.
Brings back so many memories.
5pm Friday and I was beginning to feel a bit uninspired now im ready for the weekend thanks for that!
I keep expecting to hear something about being "lost in a supermarket"...
aaahhhh.... misspent youth....
I am absolutely loving this! The vocals, the beat, the whole sound...perfect for half an hour to go of work!

I think it just might be total crap. New order is ok, but this song is not. I thought it was a bad Cure inspired bad
this was better off staying in the 80's. No worries, spandex will keep it company.
Fun tune.
Not going to change the world but does everything have to?
Let's see....uh,...I know two chords so I should write a song.

very danceable and dance inspiring, too! Whheeeeee!
gawdawful. but at least i feel justified for hating them in high school.
Not one of New Order's best.

sounds like that Christmas tune Horatio Sans plays on SNL..."I don't care what the people say, I just know it's Christ-mas" or something like that.
Hmmm, not their strongest song I think.... giving it 7
Happy to hear older New Order!

How about playing Blue Monday sometime?
If you like Blue Monday, there is a great cover of it (no, not Orgy) it is by 'Flunk' check it out at the itunes music store. Really cool version.
Oh yeahhhh. Nobody else at the office... Up goes the volume!
Pimples, panic, poor grades, and self-abuse: What wonderful memories of my childhood this song brings back!
Goodness, this is really painful...
Wow! Flashback to high school!
I'm not sure I agree with the listing that Power, Corruption and Lies was released in 1990. I distinctly remember listening to this waaaaay before then.
Ah! Just googled, it was 1983.
New Order never put out a better album than this one. The best of the genre.

Has anyone heard Wheat sing "I met a girl I'd like to know better" I used to like that tune by Wheat, but now that I hear this song, Wheat sounds like a blatant copy of this great tune.

This Tune Sucks :P Very weak vocals...Didn't like this band in the 80's and really don't like them now
:sunny.gif: Peter Hook rocks!

What a great track!! Love Sumner's voice and Hook's bass line. This was the first New Order album I owned and is still one of my favorites.
I miss ya Ian but as much as I love Joy Division, What evolved from their ashes has been beautiful.
P.S. I you are interested in Joy Division/New Order and the Manchester scene from which they came, check out the film "24 Hour Party People"
Great recommendation. Very interesting and entertaining music documentary. I'm with you on everything you wrote. This song goes to 11. :)

I feel like I am back in high school in my friend's '84 Sciracco(sp?), listening to this and the Substance album. What a tonic compared to some of the radio fare of the day.
This may onle be because it was played a few songs back but man doesn't this sound like Guster's "Come Downstairs and Say Hello" (I know it should be the other way around, New Order first).
This song (Age of Consent) is one of my "all time" favorite songs. Definitely one of the best songs in the '80's.
This band was hugely influential. The album that followed this one was their pinnacle.

To me, New Order = Peter Hook's bass line. Wouldn't be the same without it.

Right on, man - like a time warp to my youth...
Ah, if only I could experience New Order for the first time all over again...
puke
I Agree! Wuzzup with that?
