Nice take on a classic, best song on the album. Reminiscent in theme of So Much Water So Close to Home, a song by Australian Paul Kelly based on a short story by Raymond Carver that also found its way into Robert Altman's movie Short Cuts.
...a six...I like songs that have places in them...otherwise it would be a five...
horrible wait, i think i mean the song before this with the dying calf noises? that one horrible
Bought their album years ago when it first came out. Not played it since though. May have to go and dig it out now.

You are all wrong - Not Madonna, NOT Supreme Beings of Leisure, et. al. Nope, what they REALLY sound like is the Bangles ! Well, at least on this song, Banks of the Ohio. (If you listen to the Bangles Amazon.com samples, give a listen particularly to cut 10. - Eternal Flame. My mind reels at the thought of where they could be today had they not split up!) I am with you Tux, I really enjoy this music! To the naysayers - listen to samples (click here and go to the Samples section) from Snakefarm's entire album and you'll see that they are a genre-resisting group and don't really sound at all like the other groups and people mentioned here!
Actually, I think they sound like Bananarama. No, really. Regardless, this is a neat take on a rad trad.

His comment was a joke. Banks of the Ohio. Financial institutions of the Buckeye state. Get it? Are your eyes watering as much as mine from the hilarity? 8)
Yes, I got it...I was just using his amusing comment as a jumping off point to express my surprise.
This also reminds me a bit of Eliza Carthy that scion of British folk rock. Does anyone else know what I mean?
What a great groovin' version of this classic.

I don't share that opinion. I seriously like this.

Did anyone catch the sound effects sampling from Star Trek? Guess I'm dating myself, but that comes from the old Star Trek show. Listen carefully and you'll hear that spacey, echo-ey "bleep, bleep" sound in the background. Pretty cool... steve
I caught that too. I was looking here in the comments to see if anyone else had heard the same thing.
Every time I hear this song on RP, I have a "Madonna on RP?!!" moment.

This is the only band I know named "Snakefarm" and I don't think it's that fun. I'll keep searchin.

I love this song, but it's not the same version that's on my album. This one seems to be remixed more... The one I have is more like Portishead - this one has a very busy drum track.
I like Snakefarm.
Supreme Beings of Leisure?

:P People here seem surprisingly down on Snakefarm. I think they have interesting takes on old folk tunes, but that's just me.

The vocals and the beat remind me of Lucious Jackson. Love that band.

Nice, buy why a song about the financial institutions of the Buckeye state?

This is a very old bluegrass song. Listen very closely to the lyrics. Most authentic folk songs are bloody like this.
Yikes. Reminds me of River's Edge and Dead Can Dance at the same time.
i'd rather hear an authentic bluegrass rendition. this stinks.
Seriously lame.

This is a very old bluegrass song. Listen very closely to the lyrics. Most authentic folk songs are bloody like this. I think Bill Monroe did a version of this.
Yes! I am the first! This is a truly great song.
