Wick in the candle
What lies beneath
Look in the shadows and the spaces in between
A vision ghosted appearing on my screen

Soul, where is my soul, where is my soul

I seek contentment
I'm acting still
All airs and graces
With a smile before you kill
Hold back the hostile crowd
Before they trample you down

Soul, where is my soul, where is my soul

I'll go up
With my conscience clean
Down below they're looking for me
And I know you've got my soul

Oh holy ancient
I'll smoke you up
I'll take your wisdom
And I'll turn it into dust
You fill my ashtray
The one I've come to trust

Soul, where is my soul, where is my soul
Soul, where is my soul, where is my soul
Soul, you've lost control of all you've had
Soul, where is my soul, your will so bad

No there is very much a melodic formula to it all. A very nice one though, so.

Doesn't everything the Finns do sound pretty much the same? I love it all, but wonder ehy they bother having different bands.
Two answers (pick one): 1) Only if you're not listening 2) No Seriously, the Finn Brothers first album (self titled) sounds very little like their latest outing (Everyone is Here). Similarly, Split Enz has a totally different vibe than Crowded House. -Synth80s

Before RP, I only knew about Crowded House. Now I'm a Neil Finn and Finn Brothers FAN! Very nice tune and LOVE the piano work....
I find the piano reminscent of live shows of the 70's Split Enz days. I guess it's not that strange! They were goodly weird back in them thar days
One of my favorite Finn songs...

Only if you're referring to Paul Hester, former Crowded House member. Other than that, both Neil and Tim Finn are alive and well.

oh another happy song!
Magical, beautiful, I've got goosebumps! whew... what an amazing song! 9)
My favorite song from this album, which is a hidden gem, alternate reality classic to be.
Over here - I've got your soul. (Also your nose.)

I recall that one or both brothers were in Crowded House and Split Endz in the 80s. Maybe that's the similarity you're hearing. BTW: The album that this is from is pretty enjoyable and I felt it was worth the money.
Split Enz was Tim's band that Neil joined. Crowded House was Neil's band that Tim joined. Both Finn and Everyone Is Here are superb.
I like CH, I like the Finns, but this one rings rather hollow.
I think I accidentally left mine in the supermarket. Or maybe it was in the Village.
this is showing as a song from "Everyone Is Here" but that's wrong...it's from "Finn" (came out in '95, I think). the cd can be a bit hard to find but is well worth the effort!

I was hearing Split Enz, but of course.
love the Finns. they sang this song when they came to Seattle last summer...Neil's voice is always beautiful, but especially so on this one.
I saw these guys in Nashville this past Saturday night. It is the first time I've been to a show where after the encore and the road crew began taking down the equipment that the band came back out and played two more songs. The road crew was not amused..... but we were!!! We wouldn't let them leave! LOL And the show? Another religious experience for sure!
