From a soul I found some pride
Only found this after she died
From a woman I acquired such grace
Everybody seemed to want to take her place
The best part to life it seemed
The best part of life was a dream
The best part to breakin' up
Is when I'm wakin' up to see
Reality never lives up to all that it used to be
Never seemed quite what it use to seem
Wasn't sure it was never quite clear
What the hell was happening all around here
Never seemed to make much sense
All that fuss for just a lack of common sense
The best part to life it seemed
The best part of life was a dream
The best part to breakin' up
Is when I'm wakin' up to see
Reality never lives up to all that it used to be
Never seemed quite what it use to seem
Can not be all that it used to be
You're not as quiet as you used to be
What did you seem?
What did you mean?
Only found this after she died
From a woman I acquired such grace
Everybody seemed to want to take her place
The best part to life it seemed
The best part of life was a dream
The best part to breakin' up

It's too bad Beth doesn't do more songs like this. Best Bit has an awesome groovy rock quality to it. Don't find that with any of her other tunes.

Remember the one about throwing something off of the Tallahatchie Bridge? Poor Billy Joe

The more I hear of her, the more I like. Hope she comes through Oregon some time!

Exactly!
That would be classic Bobbie Gentry.
I was 10 when that came out in 67. My mother used to sing that song around the house. They even made a movie about it.

WOW! Beth gets funky. Love it
I think that she's wonderful — such passionate delivery, and such interesting stylings! I love everything she's done... Thanks a ton, RP!
Beth has an interesting distinctive voice - like this tune!!
Rhythm has a "Revolutionary Kind" by Gomez feel to it.
I like it.
When she is in tune she is wonderful. Like this one.

I like that album pic .She looks very willing!
I feel like all her songs sound the same. It's a good song, but one will do.

One? I own them all.
I'm also an addict. Recently I heard on the radio a supposed new release of hers. Had some tabla or similar eastern percussion in it that really knocked my socks off. Wonder what it was...

One of Norwich, Norfolk, England's finest exports.
Where did she go? It has been awhile since her last album . . .
her "vocal stylings" usually annoy the shit out of me, but not so much here. I really like this tune.

A bit less annoying than your typical Beth Orton song, but her godawful singing just can't let me give it more than a 3. For the love of God, Beth, you really DON'T need to add an "h" into every single word.

Best Bit is really a great song. My first exposure to Beth...probably in '98? on a station here in Anchorage. But from what I can tell, y'all have never played it...Play it! Please?
I've told you a million times, quit exaggerating!
