When I first saw your trespasser
He wandered uninvited to your door
He seemed to know his way around
Although I'd never seen his face before
Pausing for a moment underneath your window ledge
He turned around to see the shadow of the sundial on the hedge
There was a tightness in his face as though he were on edge
I don't know why

You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams

But I seem to see him all the time
You said if there's a trespasser
There must be a footprint or a sign
And what would he be looking for
There's nothing here for anyone to find
And while you tried to say it couldn't be I realized
That you could feel no sense of danger and you didn't seem surprised
I got the feeling that you knew more than you said but felt advised
To keep it in

You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams

But I seem to see him all the time
Now I see your trespasser go wandering alone
Sometimes he's standing by the flowers or melting in the stone
And even when I cannot see him I can feel it in my bones
That he's still there

You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams

But I seem to see him all the time

You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams
You see him in your dreams

But I seem to see him all the time

Juse ridiculously tight. Wow.
Can the guy ever find that note he was looking for on the guitar fingerboard?

Same here. But also reminiscent of Neil Tennant.
(I don't mean that as a slight to either of them)
Can't fight getting intellectually and emotional captured by Al Stewart and his stories.

Not.
This is a great track.
Imagine seeing that live. Your head would spin.
Love me some Al Stewart.
Very memorable songs. But I don't mean Year of the Cat, which is terrific, but more like Time Passages and Roads to Moscow.

Saw him live, great show, and yes, this track was very good. The best ones were On the border, and Year of the cat, where every band member got to impress us with their parts that make up one of the best tunes ever written and performed.
chitarra fantastica!

Road to Moscow is one of the great songs of all time. Talk about emotion. And it's not just another sappy love song, but a song about real life and the brutality of war. Brilliant.
Not a personal favourite but he certainly has a lot of excellent tracks other than « Year of the Cat » and he can pick a guitarist!

In my schoolboy years when I first heard Al Stewart, I recall an NME/Melody Maker review of probably Year of the Cat where they said he had at last got his song inspiration from somewhere other than the interesting region just below his navel... Of course, being a smutty little schoolboy, the earlier albums were just fine!
We tried to get him to play at our boarding school, but apparently his agent messed us around (he was just becoming a commercial success) so we got Michael Chapman instead, which enabled half the audience to spark up and blame the herbal essence on the roadie...

I uploaded a great tune by (Jorge) Strunz and Farah, and was almost immediately rejected. I don't quite get that, seeing as none of their music is here already. The two have been a 'duo' since the late eighties... Oh well.

Al Stewart sounds good anytime of day....

That would be Ardeshir Farah (of Strunz & Farah), playing off Al's longtime sideman, Peter White.  Good stuff.

So wait...not the guy from Gipsy Kings?   {#Eek}

When this song started, my ears were bracing for the leather-lunged yelling of GK's lead singer...

Very great album.
I woke up from chasing a dream... only to sit down and hear this...

I wonder if Al DiMeola is involved in this...

Oops, I see it's a different fellow. It does sound like something that Mr. DiMeola could do.
Nice!  I hadn't heard this one.  I must get some more Al Stewart in my collection.

SO love Al! Saw him perform this live in AZ back in the day, right after this album came out & it was stellar!
Al {#Notworthy}
Huh.  Don't know this one.

Somehow Mr. Stewart's style does not seem to blend well with Ardeshir Farah's superb execution {#Cool}
Fantastic!
I've always liked Al, not your average musician. Haven't seen him live, but I did get the chance to see Strunz and Farah( Mr Farah playing impeccable lead on this track), truly superb musicians. Apparently Mr. Stewart keeps some dam fine company!
Another eclectic choice of Al Stewart music.  I love RP.

AllMusic doesn't help a whole lot...

I used the wiki link and found "Stewart has worked with Peter WhiteAlan ParsonsJimmy PageRichard ThompsonRick WakemanFrancis MonkmanTori Amos, and Tim Renwick, and more recently has played with Dave Nachmanoff and former Wings lead-guitarist Laurence Juber."
also Peter White was with him on "Trespassers"

First time I hear this, and like it immediately. So it begins with a 7 rate, but maybe will be higher soon.

I see that the 6 other voters have given the same or higher : great :)
Nice to hear some other Al Stewart songs here...
New for me, but I like this. He has such a distinctive voice. Thanks, Bill!
