The sanest days are mad
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the price
very closely
some men here
they have a special interest
in your career
they wanna help you to grow
and then syphon all your dough
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the glass
hidden in the grass
you'll never believe me, so
why don't you find out for yourself
sick down to my heart
that's just the way it goes
some men here
they know the full extent of
your distress
they kneel and pray
and they say:
"long may it last"
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the glass
hidden in the grass
bad scenes come and go
for which you must allow
sick down to my heart
that's just the way it goes
Don't rake up my mistakes
I know exactly what they are
and... what do YOU do?
well... you just SIT THERE
I've been stabbed in the back
so many many times
I don't have any skin
but that's just the way it goes
why don't you find out for yourself
then you'll see the price
very closely

Good Tune! I never heard this tune before. That is why we come here. Thanx RP PS: Not creepy, like most of his solo work! Thanx RP!
Dig the lyrics......

I respect your opinion but In all honesty I think The Smiths are the greatest band that ever existed.
Obviously Morrissey solo isn't quite up to par with the Moz & Marr catalog but to me even the worst stuff Morrissey produced is greater than 90% of the stuff ever recorded.
Amazing how different people's musical tastes are.
Since when did Moz ever have "mass appeal"?
tell me why you think he's better than 90% - I would be happy to be convinced.

i like this song just fine— 7... haters get over yourselves. Why is Morrissey so polarizing?

did someone say 3-note range? yawner.
Is this the same guy that sings that song about being killed by a bus and how wonderful it would be?

Finally back to overcast weather, I walk up to my RP, and who should I hear but the good ol' Mozzer. Climbing back into the comforting chrysalis of his pomp and remonstrance. Wish this moment could last forever!
Finally a day of sunshine after a week of non-stop rain. Walk in, in agreat mood mind you, turn on RP, and what do I get? Right back to a dreayu old day with the depressing sound of Morrissey. Yuck. Oh well, at least it will be out of the way soon enough and won't be sinking a great set later this afternoon!

That voice is just so annoying!

Oh this is one of his best! Some great tunes on it.
I didn't like this album when it originally came out, definetely inferior to his earlier work, especially with Smiths. But I kinda like it now... must be my nostalgia for everything 80s... boy, I'm getting old

methinks ye've been in the jungle too long, lad.
No offense intended to all the Morrisey fans here, but I finally figured out what it is about his songs that bugs me. He has a propensity to create a melody based on major thirds, then he beats the I and the III to death. I'm sure I'm not explaining it in a way that anyone can understand, but imagine riffing on just the first two notes of "Brahm's Lullaby"...it's kinda like that. JMPO, but it drives me up a wall every time I hear it (from Morrisey or anyone else).

Sigh...first time hearing Morrissey on RP. Love it. (And I haven't listed to Vauxhall in many years, so this pick was a gem.)
What an exciting morning this is turning out to be...I thought I'd already maxed out the 'Hey, wow' factor this morning, hearing Postal Service here for the first time, too. But apparently Bill is a crafty one! (Thanks for a great Friday so far, Bill!)

Gosh...so good to hear goold old Moz again and all those remembrances...
Not exactly his best effort, but still pretty darned good.
Great song, and really great album. I got this by mistake from a music club and was not pleased at first...but I think it's one of Morrissey's better solo efforts.
Reminds me of why we admire British actors so much, they are not afraid to show emotion and expression in their voices. Yes his favorite subject is his own unrequited love, but this guy has the most distinctive (at least to my ears) voice in rock.
such a great underrated band

Point well taken, perhaps, as to the music, but Morrissey doesn't write his own music! He has always relied upon guitarist-collaborators ( most notably Johnny Marr, in the Smiths) for his melodies. His collaborator, writing all the music, on this song is Alain Whyte, and some responsibility for the arrangement can also perhaps be assigned to the producer, Steve Lillywhite. I do agree that it fails to meet the standard set by Moz's collaboration with Marr, who is simply the most innovative and brilliant guitarist and composer to come out of the UK in the past twenty years. This is merely okay, not brilliant.

yeah, yeah...or as I put it...he's a whiny, self obsessed boring wimp and he won't stop letting us know it.

Good old Morrissey. A very good album, too.

Thanks for adding my upload. Can't get enough of Saint Moz around here if you ask me. ;)
Apparently, Morrissey wrote this song after he was sued by former Smiths members Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce for an outrageous amount of money. The lyrics make more sense bearing that in mind, in my humble opinion.
Excellent song and album!

Everytime I hear people like you complain about Morrissey or The Smiths I wanna smack you upside the head until you come to your sense!!!
Especially if you like any of the following:
Radiohead, Oasis, Coldplay, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Stone Roses, Keane etc etc
They wouldn't BE if it wasn't for Morissey & Marr......
(Show some respect)
