You're taking the fun
Out of everything
Making me run
When I don't want to think
You're taking the fun
Out of everything
I don't want to think at all
There's no other way
There's no other way
All that you can do
Is watch them play
You're taking the fun
Out of everything
You're making it clear
When I don't want to think
You're taking me up when
I don't want to go up anymore
I'm just watching it all
There's no other way
There's no other way
All that you can do
Is watch them play
I'll watch you play
Out of everything
Making me run
When I don't want to think
You're taking the fun

Last comment on this song was really a year ago? Wow! I've never heard of this band, but I'm enjoying the sound.

I remember discovering this song in late 1996 in a promotional CD that was included with a music discography book at Hastings. It had some other good tracks on it. In retrospect I think it was promoting a mid-1990s British rock label.
This sounds like a Stone Roses song.
Apparently there is no other way
Dance break!

Why do people feel the need to say this. People live different lives and listen to different kinds of music. I never heard of Blur until tuning into RP. Just like the hundreds of other artists that I've heard here that were once new to me. I honestly think I can name one Blur song off the top of my head. And it isn't this one. There were way better bands to listen to back in 91. (in my opinion)
You have never heard of Blur?? You are kidding right??

That riff tho.
is that Laura Linney in the swim cap?

By your rationale, it's a 10. It is a proper Madchester tune. They weren't a Madchester band, since most of their songs weren't that style, but this song ticks off every box for the Baggy genre IMO.
Should I rate this a 9 or a 10? Please reply!
9 in the meantime
I would give it a 10 if it was an original Madchester tune. It was only a homage, or am I wrong? Still have to watch 24 Hour Party People

Still great after all the years.

Brings me back....
All day long!!! What a band!
This is a very underrated album - good from beginning to end!
Stone Roses clone. Or brother. Cousin. Emulator. Equivalent.

I found this quote from Patsy after the split the most satisfying:
>>Hinting at his famed dislike for rival band Blur, she added: "I can put Blur on if I want, and I don't have to dodge Jack Daniels bottles. It's liberating."<<
Rock stars...They're just like you and me, except when they get pissed off at "The Mrs.", they chuck an empty bottle of JD at 'em!
It's always interesting to see the non-public side of celebrities like rock stars. They're often pretty limited and emotionally stunted. Liam was and is a complete dick, but Patsy doesn't come across as terribly strong or self-assured ("But she said that she was "terrified of going out" because of the shame of people knowing how she was abandoned" after Liam moved out of their home).
Britney Spears takes the cake, though. I caught a bit of the TV reality special "Britney and Kevin: Chaotic" and this segment still scares me: people can be famous, accomplished and incredibly stupid:
"With heartbreaking and hilarious earnestness, she asks Federline if he’s seen Back To The Future and consequently can tell her conclusively whether people can actually time-travel in real life. She’s not joking. When Federline assures her that they can’t, Spears says that maybe they can but haven’t quite gotten around to telling her yet."
Sure you can read this snarky description of a stoned Britney babbling as Kevin films her, or watch the clip of this timeless nadir of humanity, but please don't. You will feel dirty, ashamed and angry for wasting precious moments of your life. Stupidity can be contagious, so protect yourself.

I'm always so impressed how clever they were referencing See Emily Play by Floyd in this tune!
Sounds like "Happy Mondays" and "Jesus Jones". Didn't realize until now that there was an early '90s sound.
The "Incense & Peppermints" of the 90s.
This song is like crack for me. Loaded with great hooks. 9.

I barely remember hearing about that back then--supposedly a serious debate about which band was truly great, with Blur getting slagged mostly. These days Oasis seems like it was really overrated at the time.
Does anyone care about the Gallaghers these days? Has Patsy Kensit dried her tears?
Crying? Singing? Stoned? Or just sick of each other?
There's hate both ways....it's far less one way then that...the North's full of great people and idiots just like the South is.
That whole Blur Oasis thing was just a media thing...The Beatles and the Stones did it years ago.

I'm not crazy about some of Blur's music, but I like this piece. Very 60's retro.
They were a nice little pop band, I have nothing bad to say about them.
This Android widget is awesome! Now I can take Radio Paradise with me everywhere. Blur's cool too.
Lovely bit of melody and atmosphere, isn't it?

Daaaaaaaannnng man, these guys really DID define the way music would sound for years afterward, didn't they? And Damon Albarn (and the other guys too) have all continued to produce nothing but awesome.
I have this cd - it's the first release from Blur, not an outstanding cd but it has it's moments. This is one of the better songs off it. Brings back memories from the early 90s - when shoegazer bands ruled

Londoners v Northern England in an insult fest. Hmmmm. I like it!
Always a song to prevent me from working.

You only have to listen to the fucking accents. Of course Blur are from London, Oasis, Stone Roses from Manchester (ie. dumb, incomprehenszible and northern).

I still can't believe these guys played Ziggy's in Winston-Salem. That place is a dump, but Blur made it all good in the hood.
back to school..... back to brit pop.....back to blur vs. oasis and vice versa..... great fun, great years, no much more than this in this tune.
They suffer severely from the 'cool paradox'.
They just try too hard to be clever and 'cool'. Not that I particularly hate them either.
this album is way more brilliant than "Definitely Maybe".... I think.

Major upswing in quality from Clap Your Hands.
amazing to track albarn's musical evolution from this to now... a man of his times at all times.
and on a second note, i can remember looking at the album cover way back then, and wondering what that girl's eyebrows would look like after she got out of the pool...
I'm a big fan of Blur... especially their early stuff. Blur makes me happy.

Wow, I just had a flashback to the early 90's! Madchester rave on! :propeller.gif:
Fun!!!
Because of the intro I was thinking of the way the Stones approach Funk/Soul music, which I can often relate to very much. Well, it appears to be British so in that respect the link is quite obvious. Good sound, though I got my doubts about the song.
That bass groove... that little nod to 'Lucifer Sam.'
Thank goodness for Britpop!
