Does anyone else hear Smashing Pumpkins' "Perfect" here? Eerily similar. Maybe too similar.

Agreed!!
Wow, judging by the comment gap, sure looks like this one was buried in the archives for a really, really long time.  I wonder who's been digging around in the basement.  Is that you Alanna?

A fatty?  Whatever it is, it's turning him blue.

Looking at it closer, I think it's a pea-shooter aimed at the girl's butt.

Good Schiit  man!  GOOD TUNE!    PS: it is the blue gels in the stage lighting, turning him blue!

What is that guy on the album cover smoking? It looks bigger than a cigarette... {#Think}
I really like this song!  It puts a smile on my face and a spring in my step.  Yep. {#Dancingbanana}
Recerntly saw him perform here in Newcastle with Vicka Bull, the concert went for two + hours and was a fantastic journey.  Great showman.  https://www.paulkelly.com.au/

Sadly, the illness seems to be affecting your hearing. {#Cry} I like the tune, it's got a Tom Petty feel, imo. Get well soon. {#Fever}

Come on Bill add more Paul Kelly to RP - my favorite is the Live 92 album - just Paul solo, his guitar and the songs, stripped back, and you can hear how absolutely fantastic they are. For those that don't know, just to give you an idea, he's often refered to as the Australian Bob Dylan. 'From Little Things Big Things Grow' - this song he co-wrote with an Aboriginal writer is surely the defacto anthem of the Aboriginal land rights movement. And that's just one of many brilliant and powerful songs he's written.

Ha....well that makes about 3 of us currently who think this.  It seems most people who posted 'hear' a different song though....

This guy is prob the best Aussie songster ever.
'Do yourself a favour' and listen to his vast body of work!

Amen Brother! I love PK. It's a crime that he doesn't get much airplay in the US, but we're lucky that he tours the US at least once a year. If only we got the A-Z shows that you get! (Downloads on his website are a nice substitute!){#Angel}
Rather Dylan-ish in sound and lyrics. Nice.

Start uploading then! Cyclehawk wrote:
Great to hear PK here. With such a deep catalog, I think he's deserving of more than 2 songs in the RP rotation.
how about a big ol' chunk of Lloyd Cole
Paul Kelly on RP! Hooray!
There was a teacher when I was at school called Paul Kelly, not this guy, though he did play guitar in a covers band. One day while he had his acoustic guitar on him and was tuning it, one of the kids (not me) asked him "can you play cappucino?" "I don't know that one." "You know, the Deer Hunter..."
I always think this is The Yeah Yeah Yeahs song Maps. Maps is a great song even if it is a little simple.
Anyone else hears "Perfect" by the Smashing Pumpkins? Or is it just me?

I'm with you Cyclehawk!
You know how sometimes a song starts out sounding good and you hope it won't suck when the vocals start?This is borderline.

Loved Paul Kelly ever since I saw him and the Messengers open on Crowded House's first big U.S. tour. I used to play the "Comedy" CD in the music store I worked at in Los Angeles way back when it was first released. I probably sold 2 copies each time I played it! The_Seeker wrote:
I was quite surprised when I first heard Paul Kelly on Radio Paradise; I didn't think he'd be known outside of Australia. His songs always have a sense of honesty about them and his writing is always good (he often writes for other artists).

Yum, bacon.... You've made me like this better because now I associate it with bacon.
I thought it sounded like Snow Patrol in the beginning. Was he part of a group before? If so, which one?

"Shut my thinking down" Were you hungry when you were listening?

The instruments remind me of later works by Echo and the bunnymen. And that's not a great thing.
Bill, you're making me homesick.
Paul is touring with the Waifs this summer. https://www.paulkelly.com.au/tour-dates/index.html Hope you enjoy my upload!
I love this guy, but I'm the only person I know who's ever heard of him. His "glory be to god" from Words and Music has some of the most erotic rock lyrics, ever.
One of literally dozens of outstanding songs from this legend of Australian music.
a spooky hint of Lloyd Cole...
Man where's this guy been. He put out some great records (yes was\x!!) with the Messengers. Long time no hear....thanks.

Ah, I just love this guy. Great songs, voice a little rough, what else do you need?
Aussie Aussie Aussie!

Yay! That's my upload yer listenin' to! Wow - I managed to hit this page on the day the song went live, and already several great comments ahead of me. Glad to see lots of Paul Kelly fans here. If there's anyone who already has most of his solo stuff and you're looking for more, I got the "Lantana" soundtrack, score by PK - very cool instrumental tunes.
thanks for uploading! good stuff.
LOL! This does not sound like "Perfect" with TSP, not even a little =) End of story.

I was thinking that too. Was that the pumpkins or some side project with the bass player girl?? Sorry can't remember her name or the band she came from I just know that band was a little upset.

this guy is at the moment playing 4 nights of concerts where he's playing exactly 100 songs from his back catalogue in strict alphabetical order - now that's a funny idea. good song too click here
