on the sunset, horses silhouette
all is calm tonight
new horizon, keep your eyes on those stars
lighting a way

take me somewhere out there

through the fields, in the night
all the dark horses ride
no more reining in
now my aim is in sight
to the wild and the light

out of harm's way, where the traps all lay
tying you down, selling you out
beating you down - they're all over town
know your true self, or your truth might bend
they will turf you out in the end
don't heed a word they say
keep heading away

faraway, slow in motion
through the fields, in the night
all the dark horses ride
no more reining in
now my aim is in sight
to the wild and the light

long-lost summer days
are shining around again,
sky ablaze, ride away...

makes me think of the finns a bit. but, i like this a lot.
Reminds me of Aztec Camera
Caught TCS in Detroit a few weeks ago. Great show and really nice guys to talk with afterward too. 'Leave Me Alone' off of this album is one of my favorite songs.
Stonking!!
Meh.

don knotts
{#Lol}Yeah, it probably was not an episode with Charo and/or Ruth Buzzi.

I remember that episode, Donny's hair was impeccable as usual.
Went to see them at the now defunct Maxwell's in Hoboken NJ a few years ago....freakin sound guy had the volume set at "11"...my ears rung for days...only highlight of the show was the couple dry-humping while "dancing"....I love "Cake" - great collection of songs but the live show was way too loud.
What a great pick me up on a dreary grey morning.......
Please put the lid back on their can.
Always liked this song.....this sound....this time zone....

Perhaps you are more acquainted with Donny Osmond's work than I am (particularly the B-sides), but I don't remember him doing anything that sounded anything like this.  I suppose it's all in the ear of the listener.

Agree!

Yes, Donny was all over the place back then.  :-)
Not the best band to come out of Glasgow(ish) by a long stretch (Orange Juice, Jesus & Mary Chain, Belle & Sebastian, Blue Nile, Franz Ferdinand, Beta Band, Teenage Fanclub, Camera Obscura, Mogwai) but the flashbacks make me smile. {#Angel}

It's like some smarmy 1970's Donny Osmand B-side.  This song has to go.

And I couldn't disagree more! Bought the album based on hearing this, and it's grown, albeit slowly, to be one of my favourites. The title track is awesome, shame it's not on the playlist here...
Don't know what you'll get but when I hit PSD, I got the Rain Song by Sep - yeah!!!!!
Sounds like a weak Michael Penn tune.
This sure hit the spot right now.  Volume up.

Trash as trash-can be!

This song feels older than it is.  Antique almost.
It occurs to me that this could be a KD Lang song.  You could just drop her vocals in there.  I love it, by the way.
Nice!
This song gets better each time. Solid 7.
at first listen— average at best.  Might get better after while.
Exhilarating.  Gorgeous, lush vocal harmonies over wonderful guitars, banjo, and mandolin.  The key change kicks it even higher.  Love these Scots!  More, please!
Feels good.
I got the CD largely based on hearing this song. The CD is very good, and this band is very, very good.
Totally dig these guys and the fact they're Scottish means its NOT crap. ;) {#Sunny}
Man, there are some friggin' amazing chord progressions in this song - especially in the chorus!

Who the heck removed the lid from their trash can?
Good vocals

I alwasy forget that the Trash Can Sinatras are not a punk band. The name must bring back My Way as done by the Sid Vicious or something. RP needs some punk.
I think this is terrific.

...and that was the Trash Can Sinatras singing their top hit, All the Dark Horses, here on Your Big Beat Radio ArrPee, playing ALL the hits ALL the time, here on the Glorious BIG SKY RADIO PARADISE!

I'm always a sucker for this kind of harmony. 9
"Oh, it never rains in southern California....."

I agree. I have all four TCS albums, and there are plenty of other great songs; in fact the two that get played here are nowhere near the band's best.

'twas played just about a week ago (at playing of this song today)...
This makes me happy.
Dude's voice is reminiscent of Moz.  Guitar style is very Marr as well.

So I like it....  derivative or not.

Wow, I post from Excelsior that isn't complaining and complaining and complaning . . . it's good to hear you espose something positive, and jeez, keep up the good vibes there brother!{#Clap}

This song is really appealing to me this morning for some reason.

This is sort of a sweet song IMHO :)
Huh, I popped on here to say this sounds like the Trash Can Sinatras. Guess someone beat me to it. Quite likeable tune...always enjoyed the simple melody of these guys.

I gotta upload "Weightlifting". That song is amazing.
Super! Exactly the three minute vacation I needed!
i really enjoyed this.
Playing this after Echo and the BM makes me want to have just heard a different Echo song

A bit too refiined and lacking in soul for my tastes. Gritless.
I guess the theme here is ...sounds like David Byrne

Yawn.
Wow, a flashback to the 90's. I owned their Cake album on tape. Still sounds good.
Weak-voiced anonymous MOR stuff, IMO. Aural Mogadon.
just bought the album on iTunes ... Great stuff! Thanx to RP for introducing them to me.

Excellent to hear this, from a great album that was criminally overlooked in the UK. This is the standout track on the album for me.

Just turned up the volume!!!! Love this more and more!
Just logged in...I like this.
music for the trash can!
Love the Trash Can Sinatras... almost as much as I love Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash
The more I hear this song the more I like it.
I just signed on less than 2 minutes ago (Pluto-related business.) This is a fantastic 10-worthy track that's new to me I need to get back to Georgia...
Great song, never heard this before. Thanks Bill.

The Trashcans have been around a lot longer than a decade. I remember they were on the gig circuit when I played in a band in Scotland - that was in the late 80s.
This is great. A lot of great Scottish bands have emerged from Glasgow in the past few years. Del Amitri, Travis, Mogwai, Texas, Belle & Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand , Snow Patrol, to name a few. The art schools in Glasgow & Edinburgh are a really fertile nursery of players. it's a great scene, independent of London which used to pull any aspiring musicians in the past.

From the TCS FAQ at https://www.gis.net/~jdimaria/tcs/tcsfaq.html
1.4 How did TCS get their name? Based on a radio interview with Rodney on the ROQ in 1993, TCS are fans of Frank Sinatra, but did not specifically name the band after Old Blue Eyes. As a teenager, Francis (Reader) participated in a government program, where he was responsible for emptying garbage cans. When it came time to name the band, someone mentioned the garbage cans, and the name Trash Can Sinatras was born. Here is the quote from the interview: "...it was Frank (who) used to be on this course. The government run these courses in Britain, where if you're unemployed you get to go on these courses for three to six months. And you have to, like, dig holes and fill them in again, silly things like that. It's just to keep the unemployment figures down, basically. They were on this one in a community centre. (Francis): It was a creative one. We was supposed to do creative things. It was really just to fill up your day, to stop you from doing bad things. We decided, a bunch of us, to do a concert for the other folk and all we had was bins and stuff like that. That was just the name we came up with at the time. It wasn't until a few years later when we got a band together and we were stuck for a name and we thought, hey, that was kind of a cool name. So we stuck with that and we've lived to regret it ever since." From Paul Leddy's band interview in July 1993, David said "Our name comes from a class that Frank, George and I took. We had to perform for the class, Frank was singing and we were just hitting things, one of the things we hit was a trash can and sinatras just came later, just music, bad music."
Seems to me, that any band that names itself after some other musician doesn't entirely have high hopes for themselves. Though, I'm a huge fan of 'Pearl Jam 2'
The band has officially changed it to "Trashcan" from "Trash Can". Don't ask me why. - D runchadrun wrote:

I don't know much about Prefab Sprout, but I always thought that TCS has the sound characteristic of bands on Go! Discs, like the Beautiful South. (TCS' original label was Go! Discs)

I'm not sure what got Bill turned onto TCS, but I certainly don't mind hearing them once a day :-) I guess I should try reuploading some of their songs that got rejected in the past.
Nice tune. And this is a great name for a band.
