Blinking lights on the airplane wings
Up above the trees
Blinking down a morse code signal
Especially for me

Ain't no rainbow in the sky
In the middle of the night
But the signal's coming through
One day i will be alright again

Blinking lights on the highway cars
Stopping one by one
Get a look at the accident
Didn't see that one coming

And the doctor in the sky
Gonna bring his chopper down
Gonna bring me out alive
And set me on the ground
Once more again

Blinking lights on the airplane wings
Up above the trees

Eels. E e l s. Not THE Eels. Okay? Before my last little gangly nerve ending is shredded, let's get the name correct, shall we?

The Eels are pretty good but I prefer The Cream.
Love it.
Glad it still gets the occasional spin here.

.... this song is perhaps better than E's usual "good" material.
Maybe not the best Eels?

(but still very nice song!)
Eels are good, but this song....?
Love me some Eels

Nice!

I watched a documentary on Syd Barrett the other night and noticed that many of the playbills had The Pink Floyd on them. I thought that was quite odd. Eels are nice.

They were originally called The Pink Floyd Sound, then The Pink Floyd, and finally Pink Floyd.

. . . and are now frequently referred to as simply "Floyd"!
(love this Eels CD, btw)

Here, have a nice quote from that great film "The Commitments":
Jimmy Rabbitte: We have to be "the" something. All the great sixties bands were "The Somethings".
Earlier in the film, on a similar, but more colourful note:
Jimmy Rabbitte: What do you call yourselves?
Derek: "And And And."
Jimmy Rabbitte: "And And fuckin' And?"
Derek: Well, Ray's thinking of putting an exclamation mark after the second "and." Says it'd look deadly on the posters.
Jimmy Rabbitte: Psshh...
Outspan Foster: You don't like it? You think it should go at the end?
Jimmy Rabbitte: I think it should go up his arse.
Outspan Foster: Well, we're not married to it.

(Quotes from IMDB)

It took me awhile to really start liking Eels.  My appreciation for this guy increased exponentially after watching a documentary type film about the singer that included some life stories and upbringings on PBS.  It really is quite amazing to learn the background of this guy after hearing a lot of his music.  The link below will not disappoint.

Liked them before I watched that.  Appreciate their/his music more now.

I've enjoyed eels for years, but I just bought this album a couple weeks ago. I haven't taken disc one out of my CD player yet.

I'm waiting for the acoustic Eels to become the electric Eels.
Just not enjoying this no matter what

Not just you... doesn't really help that we hear these guys 3 or 4 times per day on here.
This eel is too short, only 2.01 minutes
Love That Album art !

That "just got out of bed" voice sounds so affected to me. Can't take it.
Love the Eels. Not one of my favs. But a non fav is still a 7.
I wonder how some would refer to the band The The. The The The? LOVE EELS!

Q: Is it "EELS" or "THE EELS"? A: Technically speaking, it's just "EELS." But we all say "THE EELS" a lot, so feel free to say whatever you want. EELS, THE EELS, EELS THE, whatever.
According to E anyone is free to say whatever they want So if it's alright with E, it's certainly not something worth losing your nerves over .. And since it's alright with E, I think from now I'm just gonna call them The Coolest Band Ever
Reminds me of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinkenlights
The full title is "Blinking Lights (For Me)." Some of E's stuff is maudlin, but this is among my favorites.
I watched a documentary on Syd Barrett the other night and noticed that many of the playbills had The Pink Floyd on them. I thought that was quite odd. Eels are nice.

You know, my first thought about E was "he's clever." Now, when I hear his voice, I think, "he thinks he's clever."
The more of his music you hear, the truer that becomes. Kills whatever the intended effect, sadly.

Right, like Eurythmics not THE Eurythmics. (Dave Stewart had a thing about the THE, too.) But then SOME people need to get a LIFE!!!
Too many Eels spoil the broth

Yeah, just like RP tries to duplicate the FM stations of old by giving a thread to sets that enhance the listening experience, some records require the same. Luckily for those who took the plunge into the album and got the feel of it, this song retains a extra dimension when it gets played. I call it The Carpet Crawlers factor : a good song for most, a marvel for Genesis'The Lamb Lies down fans. By the way the album was also one of my best 2005 picks.

I agree, not my fave eels tune, but nice. It kind of reminds me of Pink Floyd.
Enough already! it's way too overplayed. Nice song though.
Love the Eels . . . while not his greatest work, this song still has an emotionally transporting effect; just by virtue of the sparse instrumentation. See them live - you'll be convert if you hold any reservations now.
RP plays a lot of Eels...It's ok in small doses and if you don't let the lyrics get you down
I just can't get into this band.
:-({|= I love the eels

Boy, ya sure gotta be miswired to find E and the eels a pick-me-up. Glad to know there's someone else out there like me.
Good Lord, this is lame....
This one is on a heavy rotation, and I have decided it's his voice that I don't much care for. He sounds half asleep. Not thrilled with this selection anymore.

must...get....some....eeels........

I really like the Eels, but I have this feeling towards them that is just like the way I feel towards Woody Allen: I love it, but I understand those people that hate it. Have a nice one, everybody!
Wow, this one is hot off the press.
Wake me up when it's over.
