Wow. The majority of comments here are about this artist's looks, and not at all about the music. Never realized so many people who listen to RP can be so shallow.
BTW, I like her music! And I don't give a shit what she looks like.
Here, here! Thinking exactly the same thing.

Thinking of an old old song called "Cool water."
In an ocean or, in a glass -
Cool water is such a gas!
Kinda funny writing it out. Anyone remember that one?
Yes, Beach Boys, and also a Joni Mitchell cover of an even older tune by Bob Nolan (U of A!) on Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm with a similar lyric (and Willie Nelson on backup).
Decent tune, anyway.

Um, are we still talking music here?
What if Uma had the equal of Laura's talent? Would it strengthen or weaken the arguments here? Or would we (rightly) not give a damn and simply assign merit based solely on the music?
Like it or not, in today's multimedia world, entertainment is a package deal and image is cultivated with due care paid to this fact. As much as Uma frets about being primped and pretty, you can bet Laura frets just as much about which clothes sufficiently augment her indie image as she shops at her favorite retro-retail clothing stores.

Feh! To hell with the salon, contacts and a makeover. Her indie-girl coolness makes all of that pap unnecessary, and perhaps even contradictory. I'll take a homely but cool indie-chick over a primped-and-pretty salon princess any day.
Laura Veirs versus Uma Thurman? Laura wins. Hands down.

here are some pics of laura on stage: www.tomvincent.co.uk/bandlist.php?ID=111
Maybe that changes your mind about her look?
At least she seems to be very enthusiastic : )
Not a great voice, but her songs are wonderful.

This chick (is that 5 or 6?) is too cool for words. I hope she makes a stop in Chicago soon.
Sorry, she's ugly. OK, not quite "ugly" but homely. Lisa Loeb has dull hair and corny glasses and she's still hot. Either you've got it or you don't. Laura don't, at least not in the looks department. However, she makes up the difference and then some in the hip indie-chick department.
Like someone else mentioned earlier, maybe a trip to the salon and some contacts might do the trick. Maybe she ought to try and be a contestant on one of those makeover shows on cable TV. I'm not going to go so far as to say she's "ugly", but the sad truth is one needs to to enhance their appearance in order to promote themselves (in a personal and professional sense) in today's society and that extends beyond show business. Judgemental attitudes towards looks and appearance extend into adulthood in all walks of life. That's not right, but we learn to adjust to those attitudes.
All that and she might want to do what she can to get that photo of her looking like Jon Stewart out of circulation.

She is not ugly....she just needs a new hair style and contacts...don't be so critical...if we were all the same we would be grey!

I saw this chick open up for Sufjan Stevens. She stunk and was rude to her audience.
Don't know why, but I find that absolutely hilarious. Just picturing that.
As for the "chick" thing: hippiechick called her a "chick" so, uh, I guess that's OK. Don't have any excuses for the rest of yous.

... At least she'd out there doin' it and doin' it bloody well despite your very prejudicial remark! Are you so beautiful that qualifies you for such poor judgement on another human being? ... Get a life brokemusician and just viva la diference! ... ...
this song sucks.
Poor chick. . . she so ugly.
this chick (4 now and rising) looks like the love child of Woody Allen & Alanis Morisette!
This chick (again!) opened for Neko Case in Seattle and I thought she was terrible. I'm sure Neko hand picked her to open but still... ugh. I'll have to listen to the recordings, but she was pretty bad at that show. Now it's 3 of 5 comments.
Three comments, two of which refer to "this chick."
I heard her on the Paste sampler (December) and she wasn't bad. Need to hear more though.
I heard her on NPR recently performing live... pretty amazing.

Wow, This chick is taking off. I am hearing her music everywhere now. Her songs are pretty catchy.
